He is not retiring from motorcycle racing: he is changing championships and will ride Ducati’s Panigale V4 R alongside teammate Iker Lecuona.
Where Morbidelli is going in 2027
The official WorldSBK announcement on 5 October 2026 confirmed Morbidelli’s signing with Aruba.it Racing – Ducati for the 2027 campaign. Ducati says he will race the team’s Panigale V4 R and be paired with Iker Lecuona. WorldSBK’s announcement and Ducati’s announcement confirm the move and the seat.
This is a change from MotoGP, the premier class, to WorldSBK, a separate championship built around production-based motorcycles. It is not a transfer to another MotoGP team. Morbidelli’s final premier-class event is scheduled to be the Valencia Grand Prix, 27–29 November 2026, according to AS.
Is Morbidelli retiring?
No. “Calls time on MotoGP career” means his MotoGP run is ending after the 2026 season; he is continuing as a professional rider in WorldSBK. The confirmed plan is a move to Ducati’s factory Superbike team, not retirement from racing.

That experience may provide organizational familiarity, but it does not establish how quickly he will adapt to a different championship and motorcycle.
