Ford Performance announced two supercharged V8 crate engines in January 2025: a competition-use 7.3-liter Megazilla 2.0 projected to make more than 1,000 horsepower, and a 5.0-liter Coyote projected to make more than 800 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. Ford said the Coyote would be street legal and offered with an available limited warranty; it did not establish current availability, pricing, or complete fitment details in the announcement.
What are the new Ford crate engines?
Ford Performance’s January 30, 2025 announcement covered two distinct supercharged engines, rather than a single engine for every kind of build. Both were presented as forthcoming crate-engine offerings, with different intended uses.

These are Ford’s projected figures, not independently verified dyno results. Ford’s announcement does not provide a complete specification sheet or full warranty terms. Ford Performance’s announcement is the primary source for the announced specifications and use descriptions.
How much power does Megazilla 2.0 make?
Ford projected more than 1,000 horsepower for the supercharged 7.3-liter Megazilla 2.0. It pairs the 7.3-liter engine with a Gen 6 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. The figure is a manufacturer projection; the announcement does not present an independent test or dyno result.
#1 Best Overall
- OEM part # M-6250-SD73A
- Original equipment in the 7.3L Megazilla crate engine
- Variable cam timing lockout gear/bolt included (torque to 55 lb-ft + 50 degrees)
- Upgraded valve springs required - PAC 1282LX or equivalent recommended
Who is it for?
Ford designated Megazilla 2.0 for competition use only, naming desert-racing pre-runners and dragstrip builds as examples. That positioning makes it different from an engine Ford describes as street legal: the announcement does not represent Megazilla 2.0 as a road-use crate engine.
Is the supercharged Coyote street legal?
Ford described its supercharged 5.0-liter Coyote as street legal. It is based on the Mustang Dark Horse engine and includes a 3.0-liter supercharger, a reprogrammed powertrain control module and other changes. Ford projected more than 800 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque.
“Street legal” is Ford’s description in the announcement, not a guarantee that the engine meets every jurisdiction’s requirements or is legal in every vehicle and configuration. The announcement does not spell out jurisdiction-specific emissions, inspection, registration or installation conditions. Check applicable local rules and confirm the requirements for the vehicle before planning a road-going build.
What warranty did Ford mention?
Ford said an available two-year or 24,000-mile limited warranty would accompany the supercharged Coyote. The announcement does not provide the full warranty terms, explain how the time and mileage limits interact, or specify jurisdiction-specific coverage conditions. It did not state comparable warranty language for Megazilla 2.0.

The announced Megazilla 2.0 should not be confused with Ford’s currently listed naturally aspirated 7.3L Megazilla crate engine, part M-6007-MZ73. That existing product is a separate engine with published specifications: Ford lists 612 hp and 670 lb-ft, CNC-ported heads, forged pistons and connecting rods, and says custom calibration is required.
Those figures and details belong to the listed naturally aspirated M-6007-MZ73, not to the supercharged Megazilla 2.0. Ford’s product page documents the existing engine at Ford Performance Parts.

Ford said in January 2025 that both new engines would be orderable through local Ford dealers or Ford Performance Parts in the fourth quarter of 2025. That was a future availability projection made at the time of the announcement, not confirmation of present-day inventory. Current availability, pricing and exact part numbers are not established by the cited announcement; confirm them with Ford Performance Parts or a Ford dealer before making a purchase plan.
Ford also said an intuitive control-pack harness was intended to simplify installation. The announcement does not identify compatible control-pack part numbers, list specific vehicle fitments, or establish what components are included with either engine. Verify the control pack, harness, included components and vehicle compatibility directly with Ford before committing to a build. A supercharger supplier named in an engine announcement does not, by itself, establish that a separate supercharger kit is equivalent or compatible with a particular vehicle.
Which engine fits your build?
- Choose Megazilla 2.0 as the engine to investigate for a competition build if the project is intended for the desert, dragstrip or another competition application, and you can verify the current specification, fitment and availability.
- Investigate the supercharged Coyote for a street-oriented project if Ford’s street-legal positioning and projected output suit the build, while confirming local compliance rules, warranty conditions and vehicle compatibility.
- Consider the listed M-6007-MZ73 when you need a documented, naturally aspirated 7.3-liter option and its published output and calibration requirement fit your project. It is not the new supercharged Megazilla 2.0.
Ford Performance director of vehicle personalization and performance parts Kim Mathers summed up the launch this way: “There’s a simple philosophy that the Ford Performance team follows every day: no boring products – and that means no boring engines, either.” The announcement’s practical distinction is more specific: Megazilla 2.0 is for competition use, while Ford positioned the supercharged Coyote for street use.
