Contamination beneath an LED chip may diminish or disable certain exterior lights. The NHTSA filing says Do Not Drive; the remedy is a no-charge dealer inspection of both headlamps and replacement if either fails inspection.
Which Ford vehicles are included?
Ford submitted the NHTSA safety recall report on September 22, 2026. It identifies selected model years and vehicles, not every vehicle bearing those model-year badges. A model year by itself cannot confirm whether a vehicle is affected; check its VIN.
| Vehicle | Potentially involved vehicles |
|---|---|
| 2025–2027 Ford Expedition | 13,298 |
| 2026 Ford F-250 Super Duty | 17,512 |
| 2026 Ford F-350 Super Duty | 10,295 |
| 2026 Ford F-450 Super Duty | 523 |
| 2026 Ford F-550 Super Duty | 120 |
These figures are the potentially involved population in Ford’s filing, which estimates that 1% have the defect. Ford says it used warranty-return information, supplier shipping records and LED-chip traceability data to identify the suspect population.
What is the lighting problem?
Ford says LED chips in certain headlamp assemblies may have been exposed to contamination at the chip supplier’s manufacturing facility. Depending on the vehicle and headlamp configuration, affected lighting may be dim or inoperative.

Ford’s filing states: “Inoperable exterior lighting features may reduce visibility for the driver and/or make the vehicle less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.” A dashboard indicator illuminates for customers experiencing inoperative low- or high-beam headlamps.
Ford reported six warranty claims and six field reports involving six unique VINs as of September 10, 2026. The company reported no known accidents or injuries related to the condition as of that date; that is Ford’s reported case history, not a measure of the risk to every affected vehicle.

What should owners do?
The NHTSA filing’s consumer advisory is Do Not Drive. Owners should contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer about the recall rather than continue driving a vehicle covered by the advisory.
The prescribed remedy is an inspection of both the left- and right-hand headlamp assemblies. If inspection passes, no further action is planned. If it fails, the dealer will replace the affected headlamp assembly or assemblies at no charge. The replacement assemblies will be built free of the contamination described in the filing. Do not buy replacement assemblies, bulbs or chips as a substitute: the campaign calls for a configuration-specific inspection before any replacement.

How to check whether a VIN is affected
- Use NHTSA’s recall lookup and search by VIN or license plate to check for an unrepaired recall.
- If the recall appears, contact a Ford or Lincoln dealer to arrange the free inspection and any required repair.
- If no result appears, check again after the campaign VINs are added or contact Ford or a dealer. NHTSA says newly announced recalls may not yet appear while VINs are being identified, and records are added continuously.
As of October 7, 2026, VINs were scheduled to become searchable on October 26, 2026. A missing result before then does not establish that a vehicle is unaffected. Ford’s recall contact, reported by Cars.com, is 1-866-436-7332. NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline is 1-888-327-4236.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When are dealer service and owner notices scheduled?
Ford scheduled dealer notification to begin October 26, 2026, and owner remedy letters to begin November 6, 2026. Both dates were still in the future as of October 7, 2026. Owners need not wait for a letter to use the VIN lookup once the campaign records become available or to contact a dealer about the Do Not Drive advisory.
