The Ford Nugget’s fixed high roof adds a permanent upper bed, more storage and standing room, but Ford’s latest cited availability update does not establish that this roof can be ordered with AWD. In Switzerland, Ford said the high-roof launch configuration was a front-wheel-drive Titanium L2; 170 PS automatic AWD was described separately as a forthcoming powertrain and in an Active L2 anniversary edition, without confirmation of the fixed roof on that edition. Check the local Ford configurator or dealer before assuming the two features are available together.
Can you buy a Ford Nugget with both AWD and the fixed high roof?
That combination is not confirmed by the latest cited Ford availability information. Ford Switzerland’s 16 September 2026 announcement said the fixed-high-roof Nugget was initially orderable as a Titanium L2 with a 150 PS diesel, six-speed manual and front-wheel drive. It said Active trim and other powertrains, including 170 PS automatic AWD, were to follow. The same announcement identified the “40 Jahre Nugget” special edition as an Active L2 with 170 PS automatic AWD, but did not specify that it had the fixed high roof. Ford Switzerland’s announcement therefore does not verify an orderable high-roof AWD.
Availability is market- and date-specific. Ask a local Ford dealer or consult the current country-specific configurator for the exact model year, roof, trim, engine and transmission. Do not treat Swiss order status or pricing as universal.
What the fixed high roof changes
Unlike a pop-top, the fixed roof is permanent. Ford describes it as insulated and says it extends sleeping and storage space. Westfalia’s high-roof brochure also describes insulation and permanent headroom. Ford calls the generation “fully winter-suitable,” but that is a manufacturer claim: the cited material provides no independent cold-weather test or quantified insulation result. Upper bed and headroom
Ford’s 2025 German high-roof launch specification gives the upper mattress as 2.05 m long by 1.30 m wide—five centimetres wider than the pop-top bed in the compared variants. With the bed folded up, Ford states that interior headroom is 2.09 m. These are Ford figures for the announced high-roof configuration, not independent measurements. Ford’s launch release has the published dimensions.
Storage and toilet layouts
Ford announced two high-roof layouts. The wardrobe version has 911 litres of total storage; the version with a fixed toilet has 711 litres. Both list 70 litres in kitchen overhead cupboards and a 53-litre fresh-water tank. The figures apply to the announced layouts and should be checked against the vehicle specification offered in your market.

High roof versus pop-top: the practical trade-off
The high roof prioritizes permanent headroom, insulation and an upper sleeping area that does not require raising a roof. A pop-top instead has a different roof arrangement; Ford’s cited comparison establishes that its bed is five centimetres narrower than the high-roof bed, but the available sources do not provide a full, like-for-like comparison of exterior dimensions, price, parking clearance or road performance.
- Consider the fixed roof if permanent headroom and the stated insulated construction matter more than keeping the roof profile lower when parked.
- Compare parking and garage clearance carefully. Confirm the exact vehicle’s exterior height with Ford; do not infer it from the interior headroom figure.
- Choose the layout around your use. The wardrobe version has more stated storage, while the fixed-toilet layout trades some storage capacity for a built-in toilet.
- Confirm drivetrain separately. The cited launch figures do not prove that AWD is available with the fixed roof.
Launch specifications and context
Ford Germany’s August 2025 announcement described the high roof as an option on the L2 Nugget, which is 5.45 m long, with a 2.0-litre, 110 kW (150 PS) EcoBlue diesel, six-speed manual and front-wheel drive. For that announced configuration, Ford listed a kerb weight of 2,820 kg, gross vehicle weight of 3,300 kg and maximum trailer weight of up to 2,000 kg. These are manufacturer-published launch specifications, not figures to assume for every market or later configuration. Confirm the applicable vehicle documents and local specification before using them for payload, towing or licensing decisions.

The Nugget generation was developed with camper converter Westfalia, according to Ford’s 2024 range announcement. A Westfalia brochure can explain conversion equipment, but it does not establish that a particular accessory fits every high-roof model year. Ford’s current German model page also identifies an optional rear bicycle carrier; verify roof, model-year and vehicle fitment with Ford before purchase.

What to verify before ordering
- Confirm the roof and drivetrain on one build sheet. Ask the dealer to show that fixed high roof and AWD are both selected for the same vehicle, rather than relying on separate model or edition descriptions.
- Check the exact market and model year. Trim, powertrain, order status and pricing can differ by country and may change over time.
- Choose the interior layout. Confirm whether the wardrobe or fixed-toilet arrangement is offered and check the applicable storage and water specifications.
- Verify dimensions and weights. Use the local vehicle specification for exterior height, kerb weight, gross vehicle weight and towing limits, especially if garage access, payload or towing matters.
- Check accessories against the exact vehicle. Ask Ford or the accessory supplier to confirm fitment for the model year and roof configuration before buying a carrier or other equipment.
