Ford Fiesta Might Make a Comeback as an EV—but the Name Isn’t Confirmed

Ford plans an unnamed small electric hatch for Europe, but has not confirmed it will be called Fiesta. The 2028 timing and Renault-platform reports are not official specifications.

Ford has confirmed plans for a small electric hatchback for Europe, but it has not confirmed that the car will be called Fiesta. The name remains an open question, and reports of a 2028 launch and Renault-platform underpinnings are expectations—not details in Ford’s official announcement.

What Ford has confirmed

On 18 May 2026, Ford announced a plan to put five new passenger vehicles on European roads by the end of 2029. The lineup includes an unnamed “Electric Hatch”: a small, all-electric B-segment car intended to have Ford driving dynamics. Ford also described a small electric SUV and two multi-energy crossovers. Ford’s announcement does not name a Fiesta successor or give the hatch’s battery capacity, range, charging performance, power, price, or on-sale date.

Will Ford bring back the Fiesta name?

Ford has not said that the planned hatch will wear the Fiesta badge. In May 2026, Ford Europe General Manager for Passenger Vehicles Christian Weingärtner said the name question had not been answered internally and that no decision had been made. Ford Europe president Jim Baumbick acknowledged the affection for the Fiesta name but did not announce a revival. Ford Authority reported both executives’ comments.

The latest checked report, published 6 October 2026, likewise says Ford has not confirmed the Fiesta name for either planned EV. EV Compared’s update discusses a Fiesta-sized car and possible timing, but those remain reported expectations rather than Ford-confirmed naming or specifications.

Where the 2028 date and Renault platform claims come from

Auto Express reported on 1 June 2026 that a possible electric Fiesta could arrive in 2028 and use a small-EV platform associated with Renault. That is media reporting, not information in Ford’s official roadmap. The Auto Express report also notes the lack of confirmed technical details; figures inferred from another vehicle should not be treated as specifications for a Ford hatch.

Ford’s official commitment is broader: five new European passenger vehicles by the end of 2029, including an unnamed electric hatch. The company has not published a hatch-specific release date. A Fiesta-badged car in 2028 is therefore a possibility described in reporting, not a confirmed launch plan.

What this means for Fiesta owners and shoppers

Ford UK currently describes the Fiesta as retired. Its Fiesta page directs existing owners to service, parts, accessories, and online manuals, and points shoppers toward used Fiesta cars. That support and used-car information applies to existing models; it is not a listing or announcement for a new electric Fiesta.

There is no buyer-ready listing or established set of specifications for the future hatch in Ford’s roadmap. Until Ford publishes them, shoppers cannot reliably assess its price, range, charging, equipment, or delivery timing.

What to wait for before treating it as a new Fiesta

The key distinction is between Ford’s confirmed vehicle plan and the unconfirmed badge. A useful announcement from Ford would settle whether the car is actually called Fiesta and provide details that let buyers judge it as a production model, rather than infer them from another vehicle or platform.
