For most buyers, the Ford Bronco is the better all-around choice. Car and Driver’s 2026 comparison rates it 9.5/10, ahead of the Jeep Wrangler’s 7.5/10, and Ford’s published specifications show useful passenger and cargo capacity. The Wrangler still makes a strong case if you want a lower starting price, prefer Jeep’s traditional format, or need the highest stated towing capacity for a properly equipped four-door.
Bronco vs. Wrangler: the key differences
| Measure | Ford Bronco | Jeep Wrangler |
|---|---|---|
| Car and Driver’s 2026 rating | 9.5/10 | 7.5/10 |
| Starting price in Car and Driver’s selected 2026 two-door trims | $42,790 | $38,030 |
| Towing in Car and Driver’s selected 2026 trims | 3,500 lb | 2,000 lb |
| Maximum towing stated by the manufacturers | Most 2026 Broncos: 3,500 lb; Bronco Raptor: 4,500 lb, according to Ford | Up to 5,000 lb for a properly equipped 2025 four-door, according to Jeep |
These figures do not describe one matched pair of vehicles: the price and rating are from Car and Driver’s 2026 comparison, the selected-trim towing figures are from that comparison, and the manufacturers’ maximums refer to different model years and conditions. Towing capacity depends on the exact configuration, so check the rating for the vehicle you plan to buy.

Why the Bronco is the better choice for most buyers
The Bronco’s advantage is its overall balance, not a win in every category. Car and Driver’s 2026 comparison gives it the higher overall rating, and Ford’s published specifications indicate more day-to-day utility in the specific 2025 trims Ford compared: the Bronco Badlands has five seats and 38.3 cu. ft. of cargo space behind the second row, while the Wrangler Sport has four seats and 12.9 cu. ft. behind its second row.
That is a useful difference if you regularly carry passengers or luggage, but it is a trim-to-trim comparison, not a promise that every Bronco has more room than every Wrangler. Check the seating and cargo figures for the body style and trim you are considering.

Which is better for daily driving?
The comparison supports the Bronco as the stronger all-round pick, but it does not provide a like-for-like measurement of ride comfort, cabin noise, fuel economy or commuting costs. Those qualities can vary with body style, tires, engine and trim. If daily use is your priority, drive the exact configurations you are considering, including over rough pavement and at highway speed, and compare their published fuel-economy figures and equipment.
Which one is better off-road?
There is no single winner for every trail. Tire package, axle configuration, clearance and the terrain all affect what each vehicle can do; the available evidence does not establish a universal off-road champion. Ford’s 2026 Bronco specifications do spell out its terrain controls: Badlands, Stroppe Edition and Raptor trims have seven G.O.A.T. Modes, while other trims have five. Ford expands the name as “Goes Over Any Type of Terrain”; the listed modes for the seven-mode setup include Rock Crawl and Baja.

Use the specific trim’s equipment list to compare the hardware and modes you want rather than assuming that a model name alone guarantees a particular setup.
Which SUV tows more?
The answer depends on what you compare. In Car and Driver’s selected 2026 trims, the Bronco is listed at 3,500 lb and the Wrangler at 2,000 lb. For manufacturer-stated maximums, Ford lists 3,500 lb for most 2026 Broncos and 4,500 lb for the Bronco Raptor; Jeep says a properly equipped 2025 four-door Wrangler can tow up to 5,000 lb. That Wrangler figure is the highest of these stated maximums, but it applies to a properly equipped four-door, not every Wrangler.

Before choosing a tow vehicle, verify the rating for the exact engine, body, axle and equipment combination, and account for the loaded trailer and passengers. Do not use a model-wide maximum as the rating for a particular vehicle.
Is the Bronco worth the extra money?
In Car and Driver’s selected 2026 two-door trims, the Bronco starts at $42,790 and the Wrangler at $38,030—a $4,760 difference in the Wrangler’s favor. The Bronco’s higher rating and the practical space advantage in Ford’s cited 2025 trim comparison may justify paying more if those benefits match how you will use the SUV. If the lower entry price matters most and the Wrangler’s seating and cargo arrangement suits you, the price gap is a real reason to choose Jeep.

Should you buy a two-door or four-door?
Choose by how you will use the vehicle, then compare like-for-like trims. The cited starting-price comparison is for two-door models, while Jeep’s 5,000-lb maximum applies to a properly equipped four-door. The cited space comparison also concerns particular trims, not every two-door and four-door combination. Those figures should not be mixed to infer a price, cargo or towing advantage for a body style the comparison did not measure.

- Consider a two-door if its size and seating capacity fit your usual passenger and cargo needs.
- Consider a four-door if you need more room for passengers or want to evaluate Jeep’s stated four-door towing maximum.
- Compare the exact configurations for seating, cargo capacity, towing rating and price before deciding; a body-style change can also mean a different trim or equipment package.
What about reliability and ownership costs?
The available evidence does not provide a comparable long-term reliability dataset, so it does not establish a reliability winner. It also does not settle which model will cost less to own: that depends on the exact vehicle and factors such as fuel use, insurance, maintenance, repairs and purchase price. Compare those figures for the trims and ownership period you have in mind rather than treating either model as categorically cheaper or more dependable.
Verdict: choose the Bronco unless the Wrangler’s specific advantage matters more
The Bronco is the clearer recommendation for buyers who want the stronger overall comparison score and the utility shown by Ford’s cited trim comparison. Choose the Wrangler instead if its lower selected-trim starting price, familiar Jeep format or properly equipped four-door’s stated towing maximum better fits your priorities. Neither choice is an automatic off-road winner: compare the exact equipment and intended use.
