But the visible emergency-vehicle equipment did not answer the practical question at the heart of the story: where would a stretcher-bound patient ride?
What was reported about the Cybertruck?
On August 3, 2024, Futurism reported that a Tesla Cybertruck had been donated to Hatzulas Nefashos, a Jewish volunteer EMT organization operating in South Jersey, and placed in Lakewood, New Jersey. The report described a red, white, and blue wrap, emergency sirens, and ambulance insignia. Futurism said its account relied on Jalopnik reporting and a TikTok video. Read Futurism’s report.
Those details establish that the truck was presented as an emergency vehicle. They do not establish that it had a patient compartment configured for stretcher transport, or that it had carried a patient.
Where would a stretcher-bound patient ride?
That is the unresolved issue. Carrying cargo in a truck bed is not the same as transporting a patient on a stretcher. A practical patient-transport setup also has to account for the gurney, emergency equipment, and medical personnel. Futurism’s concern was that the reported configuration did not make clear where all of that would fit; the article did not provide an engineering inspection, formal EMS assessment, or documented patient-transport demonstration.

Futurism speculated that a person with a less severe injury might ride in the back seat, describing that possibility as closer to a hospital car service. That was speculation, not an established use of this Cybertruck or medical guidance.
What the report does—and does not—establish
- Reported: A Cybertruck was donated to Hatzulas Nefashos and shown with ambulance markings and sirens.
- Not established: Whether it could safely and practically accommodate a stretcher-bound patient, crew, gurney, and medical equipment.
- Not established: Whether it transported patients, what role it served operationally, or whether it remains in service today.
- Not established: Whether it met any formal EMS vehicle requirements. Futurism’s article did not cite an official assessment or applicable standards.
The distinction matters: an ambulance-style wrap and sirens are visible features, but they do not by themselves demonstrate patient-transport capability. Futurism also reproduced an anonymous Reddit user’s joke: “If they pull up on me in something that ugly I’m telling them to let me die.” That comment is a joke, not an expert or official judgment.
