You do not need a rare, expensive, or modified car to attend a first car meet or Cars & Coffee; many events welcome ordinary cars and spectators. Before you go, check the specific organizer’s official page for the schedule, arrival window, registration, parking, and conduct rules, because policies vary by event.
Before You Go
- Do check the organizer’s official event page. Confirm the date, time, location, spectator access, registration requirements, parking instructions, and conduct rules. Local policies differ.
- Do arrive early when you can. Some owners leave before the posted end time, so arriving early may give you more time to see cars and talk with their owners. Check the event’s arrival window first.
- Do bring the car you have. A special or expensive car is not a general requirement. Check whether your chosen event has specific display or entry criteria.
- Do give your car a reasonable clean if you plan to display it. This is a courtesy, not a general admission requirement. Cars and Coffee Cleveland welcomes all makes and models and encourages a clean ride.
- Don’t assume registration is or isn’t required. Follow the instructions for that particular event; some organizer policies include requirements that others may not.
- Do check the rules for children and pets. Supervision and age requirements vary. For example, some organizers set specific rules for minors, so plan around the event’s posted policy.
At the Event
- Do follow staff directions and posted signs. The organizer’s instructions take precedence over assumptions about how a meet usually works.
- Do drive slowly and watch for pedestrians. People may be walking between parked cars. Cars and Coffee Cleveland, for example, gives around 5 mph as its lot-driving guidance; that is a local instruction, not a universal speed limit.
- Don’t do burnouts, donuts, drifting, racing, or hard launches. These behaviors can endanger people and put the event’s use of its venue at risk. Follow the organizer’s rules and obey road laws.
- Don’t rev excessively or blast music. Keep noise within the event’s rules and be considerate of nearby residents and businesses.
- Do leave room for cars and pedestrians to move. Don’t block access or other drivers’ sight lines. Columbus Cars and Coffee’s code of conduct specifically prohibits blocking sight lines.
- Don’t touch, lean on, or open another person’s car without permission. Look without handling the vehicle unless the owner says it is okay.
- Do ask before photographing people closely. Permission is a considerate default, especially for close-up shots. Do not assume every event has a formal photography rule.
- Do supervise children. Keep them with you and follow the event’s specific age and supervision requirements.
- Do start conversations with a sincere question or compliment. You might ask how long someone has owned the car or what they enjoy about it. If they seem busy or reserved, give them space.
- Don’t pretend to know more than you do. It is fine to say you are new and ask a genuine question. This is good social practice, not a universal event rule.
- Do make room for different cars and experience levels. Meets can include ordinary daily drivers as well as unusual or modified cars. Be curious rather than dismissive.
- Do support the host business if it suits you. Buying a coffee or snack can support a local venue, but it is not a condition of entry unless the organizer says otherwise.
- Don’t litter. Use the bins and leave the venue clean. Cars and Coffee Cleveland explicitly asks attendees to keep the space clean.
Leaving and Following Up
- Do leave calmly and obey road laws. Use care around pedestrians and other vehicles in the lot, then drive safely on public roads.
- Don’t turn your exit into a performance. Avoid revving, speeding, or reckless driving. Organizers including Cars and Coffee St. Louis specifically discourage excessive revving, burnouts, and erratic exits.
- Do thank staff or the venue when appropriate. It is a courteous way to recognize the people hosting the event, not a formal requirement.
- Do return if you enjoyed it. Check the organizer’s page for future dates and any updated instructions before your next visit.
- Do have fun. Autoblog Senior Editor James Ochoa puts it simply: “The most important part of attending Cars and Coffee is to have fun.”

Do I need a rare or expensive car to attend a car meet?
