Ferrari Daytona SP3 vs. Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2: Which Is More Collectible?

The Monza SP1/SP2 launched Ferrari’s Icona line, while the Daytona SP3 has a stated 599-car original run and documented auction results. Here’s what the evidence can—and cannot—say about which is more collectible.

There is no evidence here to establish the Ferrari Daytona SP3 or the Monza SP1/SP2 as categorically more collectible. The Monzas have the stronger claim to historical importance within Ferrari’s Icona program: they were its first models. The Daytona SP3 has a documented sale of a regular-production example, plus a separate $26 million charity-auction result that should not be treated as a normal market price. Which matters more depends on whether you mean place in Ferrari history, production scarcity, the appeal of a particular car, or demonstrated resale demand.

What does “more collectible” mean in this comparison?

Collectibility is not a single measurable trait. It can refer to a model’s significance in Ferrari history, how limited its production was, how desirable a particular example is to buyers, or how the car performs when it comes to market. Those measures can point in different directions. A model can be historically important without having the strongest documented auction result, and an exceptional auction result does not by itself establish that a model is more desirable or valuable across the market.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

For the Monza SP1 and SP2, the defining distinction in the available evidence is that they launched Ferrari’s Icona line. For the Daytona SP3, the evidence establishes a 599-car original limited-series run, the end of its production run in the third quarter of 2025, and two very different auction events: a one-off charity car and a regular-production car. Those facts make the models comparable, but they do not create a complete model-versus-model market ranking.

  • Historical importance: The Monza SP1/SP2 were the first Icona models; the Daytona SP3 followed as a later Icona.
  • Scarcity: Ferrari specifies an original 599-car Daytona SP3 run. The cited sources do not give a model-by-model production count for the Monza SP1 and SP2.
  • Individual-car desirability: Specification, provenance, condition, mileage, and records can affect how a particular car is received.
  • Resale evidence: The available auction results are not a consistent set of comparable Monza and SP3 sales.

The practical answer is therefore conditional: the Monzas lead on being the Icona originators; the SP3 has a clearly stated original run and a documented regular-production auction result. Neither point proves a categorical winner in overall collectibility.

It helps to separate four questions that are often bundled into “collectible.” First, which car has the more consequential place in the program’s history? That favors the first Icona models, the Monzas. Second, which has the clearer published production figure? The SP3 has an explicitly stated original allocation of 599, while a comparable Monza figure is not established here. Third, which individual car has the most compelling specification and history? That can only be answered car by car. Fourth, which has the stronger resale market? That requires multiple comparable sales, not just a record event and one regular-production SP3 result.

These distinctions matter because a fact about a model is not automatically a fact about every example. A limited run does not tell a buyer whether a particular car has complete records; a historically significant launch position does not supply a resale premium; and a high auction result does not establish what the next similar car will bring.

How the three cars fit into Ferrari’s Icona story

Monza SP1 and SP2: the first Icona models

Ferrari introduced the Icona program in 2018 with the Monza SP1 and SP2. Ferrari says they were the first Icona models and that they reinterpret historic barchetta cars, including the 750 Monza and 860 Monza. That launch position gives the Monzas a specific historical distinction: they established the modern Icona line rather than joining an already established series.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The SP1 and SP2 are a paired model family in this comparison, not evidence of a single stated production total. The available official source does not provide a model-by-model split or a total that can safely be assigned to each version. It would be misleading to infer an individual SP1 or SP2 count from the figures for another Icona model.

That distinction also shapes how to discuss the two Monzas without overstating what is known. Ferrari’s description supports their shared position as the first Icona models and their connection to historic barchettas. It does not supply a numerical basis for declaring one Monza version rarer than the other, or for ranking either against the SP3 by units produced. A collector comparing an SP1 with an SP2 would need model-specific production and sale information beyond the facts stated here.

Daytona SP3: a later Icona with a distinct design reference

Ferrari introduced the Daytona SP3 in 2021. The company describes it as an Icona inspired by its 1960s sports prototypes. Ferrari’s 2025 annual report lists 840 hp, 697 Nm of torque, and a maximum engine speed of 9,500 rpm. The report characterizes its engine as “the most powerful naturally aspirated road engine ever built by Ferrari”; that is Ferrari’s description, not an independent comparative assessment.

The SP3’s technical and design story differs from the Monzas’ role as the first Icona models. These distinctions are meaningful to collectors who prioritize a particular period or design lineage, but the evidence does not quantify how much either distinction affects buyer demand.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The published technical figures give the SP3 an additional point of distinction for buyers interested in its engineering identity: 840 hp, 697 Nm of torque, and a 9,500 rpm maximum engine speed. They are useful specifications to cite, but they do not by themselves measure collectibility. There is no corresponding set of figures here that permits a direct performance comparison with the Monza SP1 or SP2, and no basis for converting the SP3’s technical specification into a price premium.

Production status

Ferrari’s 2025 annual report says the Monza SP1/SP2 are out of production and that “The Daytona SP3 completed its limited series run in the third quarter of 2025.” The statement establishes the SP3 run’s end point; it does not say that every car was delivered in that quarter. Both model families are therefore out of production according to Ferrari’s annual report, though only the SP3’s completion quarter is specified here.

Out of production is relevant because buyers can no longer treat either family as an ongoing series, but it is not a complete measure of scarcity. Availability on the secondary market, the number of owners prepared to sell, and buyer competition are separate questions. None can be inferred just from the production-status statement.

What the production figures do—and do not—show

Ferrari states that the Daytona SP3’s original limited-series run was 599 cars. The company separately says a one-off Tailor Made SP3 sold at auction in 2025 was commissioned in addition to that original allocation. The additional car should not be silently folded into the 599 figure: Ferrari described it as beyond the original run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That number is a concrete scarcity fact, but it is not a complete scarcity comparison. The source material does not establish the total number of Monza SP1s and SP2s, or a comparable production split between those versions. Without those figures, a claim that the Monzas or the SP3 are numerically rarer would go beyond the evidence. Nor does a stated production allocation, by itself, establish how many examples are available for sale, how many owners want to sell, or the depth of buyer demand.

There are consequently two different scarcity questions. The first is how many cars Ferrari allocated to a series, for which the SP3’s original 599-car figure is explicit. The second is how difficult it is for a buyer to locate and acquire the right example at a particular moment. That depends on cars actually offered and on the preferences of sellers and buyers. A production number cannot answer the second question on its own.

The Tailor Made charity car is a special case in both senses: it was a one-off and it was commissioned in addition to the original run. Its existence does not change how Ferrari described the original 599-car allocation. Nor does its unique status make it a fair unit-for-unit comparison with the Monza SP1 or SP2.

Collectibility factor Monza SP1/SP2 Daytona SP3
Place in the Icona program First Icona models; introduced in 2018. Later Icona model; introduced in 2021.
Stated design inspiration Historic barchetta cars, including the 750 Monza and 860 Monza. Ferrari sports prototypes of the 1960s.
Production status in Ferrari’s 2025 annual report Out of production. Limited-series run completed in Q3 2025.
Production count established by the cited sources Model-by-model counts not stated in the cited Ferrari source. 599 cars in the original limited-series run; the one-off charity car was an addition.
Regular-production auction evidence presented here No directly comparable Monza result established. One reported 2024-car sale in October 2025.

The table is deliberately not a scorecard. It identifies what can be stated on the available points of comparison and leaves the gaps visible. A blank or unreported figure should not be treated as evidence that a model is less scarce; it means a numerical comparison cannot responsibly be made from these facts.

What the auction results say about SP3 demand

The $26 million one-off was a charity event, not a normal price guide

Ferrari reported that a one-off Daytona SP3 Tailor Made sold for $26 million at auction in August 2025. It was commissioned in addition to the original 599-car run, and Ferrari said all proceeds would benefit The Ferrari Foundation. Ferrari presented the result as the highest value ever achieved at auction for a new Ferrari.

This was an exceptional combination of a unique car and a charity purpose. It is evidence of a high-profile event and the amount raised for the foundation; it is not a typical SP3 sale price, a valuation for an ordinary production example, or proof that the SP3 is more collectible than either Monza. Treating it as a market comparable would conflate a special one-off sale with routine transactions.

For a buyer trying to estimate an ordinary car’s value, the key question is not simply “What did an SP3 sell for?” but “What kind of SP3 sold, and under what circumstances?” In this case, the answers include a one-off Tailor Made car, a charity purpose, and a result Ferrari described as a record for a new Ferrari. Those qualifications make the $26 million figure newsworthy, but they also make it unsuitable as a direct valuation shortcut for a regular-production car.

A regular-production SP3 sale gives a more useful, but still limited, reference

RM Sotheby’s reported that a regular-production 2024 Daytona SP3 sold for CHF 5,348,750 in October 2025. The auction house described that individual car as bespoke and single-owner, and listed 2,933 km at cataloguing. Those details help explain the specific car being offered; they do not make its result a model-wide average.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The sale is a useful data point because it concerns a regular-production example rather than the charity one-off. But it remains a single result in one currency, at one date, for one car with its own specification, ownership history, and mileage. It cannot show an average SP3 value, establish a trend, or be compared directly with a Monza without relevant Monza sales and aligned details such as sale date, currency, mileage, specification, and condition.

The catalog details are worth retaining alongside the price rather than stripping them away. “Bespoke” and “single-owner” describe the character of this particular offering, while the 2,933 km figure describes its recorded mileage at cataloguing. None of those points establishes that the same specification or ownership history applies to all SP3s. The result is most useful when kept attached to the car that achieved it.

Why these results cannot settle a model-wide ranking

The available sales evidence does not establish a consistent group of realized Monza and SP3 prices under comparable conditions. It therefore cannot support a reliable conclusion about which has appreciated more, which sells more readily, or which has stronger resale performance. A record headline and one regular-production result answer different questions; neither is a substitute for a comparable transaction history.

When reading any auction figure, keep the context attached to the number: whether the car was a one-off or a regular-production example, whether the sale had a charity purpose, when and where it took place, what currency was used, and what is known about that individual car. Omitting those qualifications can make an exceptional result appear representative when it is not.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A sound comparison would require multiple realized Monza and SP3 prices, with enough information to align the examples. For each sale, a reader would want to know the date, currency, mileage, condition, specification, and sale context. Even then, the result would be a comparison of the examples represented in that set, not an automatic forecast for every car. The figures cited here do not form that kind of matched series, so claims about relative appreciation, liquidity, or resale strength should remain open.

As a result, neither headline number should be used alone to answer “Which is more collectible?” The charity sale establishes an exceptional event; the RM Sotheby’s sale establishes one reported regular-production SP3 result. Neither supplies the missing comparable Monza transactions or enough SP3 results to show a trend.

Which model may matter more to different collectors?

Choose the Monza story if the first Icona models are your priority

A collector drawn to program history may place particular weight on the Monza SP1/SP2’s role as the first Icona models. Their references to the 750 Monza and 860 Monza also provide a specific historical design connection described by Ferrari. That is a defensible reason to favor the Monzas as historically significant within this comparison. It does not, on the evidence here, establish a stronger market premium.

This is the strongest supported case for choosing the Monza family: its first-in-program status is a clear, model-level distinction rather than an inference from a single auction. For a collector whose definition of “more collectible” begins with being the originator of a series, that distinction may be decisive as a matter of preference. It remains a historical judgment, not a quantified valuation conclusion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the SP3 story if its later Icona identity and documented run appeal more

A collector may instead prefer the Daytona SP3’s sports-prototype inspiration, its stated 599-car original run, or the engine figures Ferrari publishes. The October 2025 RM Sotheby’s result also supplies a public regular-production sale reference. These are concrete points of interest, not proof that every SP3 is more desirable or that it will outperform a Monza when resold.

The SP3 therefore has a different kind of documented case: a specified original allocation, an identified production completion quarter, and a public sale of a regular-production example. A buyer who values a published run figure and wants an auction result to examine may find those facts particularly useful. They still do not amount to a direct market contest because there is no comparable Monza result here.

Do not treat preference as a forecast

Historical significance, personal design preference, and auction performance are separate judgments. A buyer can reasonably prefer either model family without claiming that preference predicts future appreciation. The evidence available for this comparison does not provide a complete basis for forecasting price direction or liquidity for either one.

“More collectible” can also be a personal decision rather than an investment claim. A buyer may favor the first Icona models because of their place in the program, or prefer the SP3’s prototype inspiration and technical specification. Neither preference needs to be converted into a claim about future prices. The best answer for an individual collector depends on which qualities matter to that collector and on the evidence for the particular car under consideration.

How to assess a specific car rather than just its badge

For an actual purchase or valuation, the individual example matters. Auction-house commentary identifies scarcity, provenance, factory-correct specification, and documentation as buyer considerations. RM Sotheby’s description of the 2024 SP3 also illustrates why single ownership, bespoke specification, and mileage may appear in a catalog entry: they help characterize that particular offering, rather than all cars of the same model.

  1. Confirm exactly which model and example is being offered. Establish whether it is a Monza SP1, Monza SP2, or Daytona SP3, and distinguish a regular-production car from any one-off or separately commissioned example.
  2. Review provenance. Check the documented ownership and history for that car. A model’s general rarity does not verify the history of an individual example.
  3. Match specification to the evidence. Determine what is factory-correct, what was bespoke, and what documentation supports the stated configuration. Do not assume that bespoke means more valuable without evidence about buyer response.
  4. Establish condition and mileage. Compare those details with actual sale records for cars of the same model and a reasonably similar specification and condition. The SP3’s reported 2,933 km belongs to the specific RM Sotheby’s example, not to a typical SP3.
  5. Compare like with like in market records. Use realized sale prices rather than an isolated headline, and align dates, currencies, mileage, specification, condition, and sale context as closely as possible.
  6. Keep uncertainty explicit. If there are too few comparable sales, treat a result as a reference point rather than a market average or forecast.

This approach is especially important when one of the numbers in circulation is the $26 million charity result. It describes an unusual one-off transaction, while an ordinary valuation question concerns a particular production car and its own evidence.

In practical terms, start with the identity of the car, then its records, then its condition and specification, and only then compare its price with other sales. If a seller cites an auction result, ask whether it was a regular-production example or a one-off, whether it was a charity event, and whether mileage, condition, and specification are close enough to make the comparison meaningful. The source facts do not set a purchase budget or establish a typical current price for either family, so a buyer should not treat the cited results as a substitute for a valuation of the actual car.

Documentation is not a cosmetic detail in this process. It is what lets a buyer check the stated provenance and specification rather than rely only on a description. Auction-house commentary includes documentation among buyer considerations, alongside scarcity, provenance, and factory-correct specification. That is a useful checklist, but it should not be mistaken for a guarantee that any individual attribute will add a fixed amount to a sale price.

Verdict: which is more collectible?

The Monza SP1/SP2 have the clearest claim to historical priority: Ferrari identifies them as the first Icona models. The Daytona SP3 has a stated 599-car original run, a defined completion point in Q3 2025, and a public regular-production auction result. The available evidence does not establish a definitive winner in overall collectibility, scarcity, appreciation, liquidity, or resale strength. For a collector, the better choice depends on which history and design story matters most—and, for any specific purchase, what that car’s provenance, specification, condition, and comparable sale evidence show.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Ferrari was the first Icona model?

Ferrari identifies the Monza SP1 and SP2 as the first Icona models. They were introduced in 2018 and reinterpret historic barchetta cars, including the 750 Monza and 860 Monza.

How many Ferrari Daytona SP3s were in the original run?

Ferrari states that the original Daytona SP3 limited-series run was 599 cars. The one-off Tailor Made car that sold for charity in 2025 was commissioned in addition to that original allocation.

Does the $26 million Daytona SP3 sale show what a regular SP3 is worth?

No. Ferrari described it as a one-off Tailor Made car, commissioned beyond the original run, and said the proceeds would benefit The Ferrari Foundation. It was an exceptional charity auction, not a typical production-car price guide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the documented auction result for a regular-production Daytona SP3?

RM Sotheby’s reported that a 2024 Daytona SP3 sold for CHF 5,348,750 in October 2025. The described car was bespoke, single-owner, and had 2,933 km at cataloguing. It is one result, not a model-wide average.

Are the Monza SP1 and SP2 rarer than the Daytona SP3?

The cited Ferrari source does not state a model-by-model production count for the Monza SP1 and SP2, so the available figures do not support a numerical rarity ranking against the SP3’s original 599-car allocation.

Which is likely to appreciate more or be easier to resell?

The cited auction evidence does not establish a consistent set of comparable Monza and SP3 sales, so it cannot support a reliable claim about relative appreciation, liquidity, or resale performance.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Monza SP1/SP2 win on Icona-program priority; Ferrari gives the Daytona SP3 a stated original run of 599 and a documented regular-production auction result. The $26 million one-off charity sale is not a normal price comparison. Neither model is proven to be categorically more collectible, and an individual car’s provenance, specification, condition, mileage, and records matter.
