This Bring a Trailer car is a Ferrari 250 GTO-style recreation, not an original 250 GTO. The listing identifies it as a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE, chassis 250GTE3121, modified with a shortened chassis and hand-formed aluminum bodywork. At the listing snapshot indexed October 4, 2026, bidding stood at $377,777, with the auction scheduled to end October 12 at 10 a.m. Pacific. That is a current bid, not a sale price.
Is this a real Ferrari 250 GTO?
No. The listing describes a recreation built on a shortened 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE chassis, and says the car is titled using the GTE identity, chassis 250GTE3121. It is not one of the original 250 GTOs and should not be represented as sharing an original car’s identity or competition history.
That distinction matters: the car’s GTO appearance is the result of a later build, while its stated underlying identity is a 250 GTE. The seller describes the current title as a clean Montana title identifying it as a 1962 Ferrari GTE, and also notes a New Zealand low-volume vehicle certification plate and an assigned VIN plate. Those are listing details, not an independent determination of title validity or road-registration eligibility in any jurisdiction.
How was the recreation built?
According to the Bring a Trailer listing, engineer and marque specialist Steven Giacobbi began the construction in 2008. The build uses a shortened 250 GTE chassis with custom tubular framing and hand-formed aluminum bodywork shaped over a buck. The listing says the buck was reportedly designed using an original 250 GTO that had passed through the constructor’s shop for repairs; that account is reported by the seller and is not independently authenticated provenance.

The listing says the car was displayed at events, consigned to an owner in New Zealand in 2016, and repurchased by its constructor in 2020. Construction photographs are said to accompany the car.
What engine and mechanical specification does it have?
The listing describes a 3.0-liter Colombo V12 with higher-compression pistons, larger exhaust valves, dry-sump lubrication and six Weber 40 DCN carburetors. It says the V12 was overhauled during the build. The five-speed transmission is described as having Tremec gears fitted in a Ferrari 250 gearbox case.

- High quality die cast construction
- 1: 24 scale model
- Incredibly detailed
In 2020, according to the listing, Patrick Ottis carried out a mechanical refresh that included rebuilding the six Weber carburetors with 30 mm chokes, rebuilding the water pump and distributors, adjusting valves and cam timing, and changing fluids. The listing says invoices from that work recorded approximately 170 psi compression on all cylinders. These are seller-reported details and invoice figures, not results of an independent inspection for this article.
What does the car look like, and what equipment is listed?
The car is finished in red with blue cloth upholstery. The listing specifies 15-inch Borrani wire wheels, four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, coil-sprung independent front suspension, and a leaf-sprung solid-axle rear end with Watt’s linkage and telescopic shock absorbers.

What should a prospective buyer verify?
The listing states that chassis mileage is unknown (TMU). For a car whose visual identity differs from its titled donor identity, the practical questions are about documentation and condition, not just resemblance.
- Review the construction photographs and the reported 2020 refresh invoices, and confirm what records are physically included.
- Have a Ferrari specialist inspect the chassis modifications, bodywork, engine, gearbox, suspension and brakes in person. The listing is sales material, not an independent condition report.
- Confirm title, VIN and registration requirements directly with the relevant authorities for the intended jurisdiction; the listing’s description does not establish that the car can be registered everywhere.
- Assess the car as a recreation based on a 250 GTE, rather than assuming the value, authenticity or history of an original 250 GTO.
How does the listing distinguish the original 250 GTO?
The listing says Ferrari began the original 250 GTO project in 1961 as a successor to the 250 GT SWB Berlinetta for the 1962 FIA International Championship for GT manufacturers. It attributes the initial Comp/62 design to Giotto Bizzarrini and later styling and construction to Scaglietti, and states that 36 original examples were built between 1962 and 1964. The listing also says the model led Ferrari to three consecutive International Championship for GT Manufacturers titles. These historical details are the listing’s account; they do not describe this recreation’s provenance or racing record.
