Ferrari 12Cilindri Review: A V12 Grand Tourer with More Than One Side

The Ferrari 12Cilindri pairs a 9,500-rpm naturally aspirated V12 with a more relaxed GT character than the 812, but its styling, cabin interface and extreme price may divide buyers.

The Ferrari 12Cilindri makes its case with a naturally aspirated V12 that revs to 9,500 rpm, but its appeal is broader than outright speed. It is a two-seat grand tourer designed to pair enormous performance with long-distance comfort. Reviews describe it as more approachable and serene than the 812, while its challenging styling, fussy cabin interface and very high price remain real compromises.

What is the Ferrari 12Cilindri?

Ferrari launched the 12Cilindri in Miami Beach on 3 May 2024 as a two-seat berlinetta with a mid-front-mounted, naturally aspirated V12. Ferrari says its concept draws on the marque’s 1950s and 1960s grand tourers, combining performance with versatility. That is the manufacturer’s positioning; the car’s distinctive design and road character are its own modern interpretation.

The name refers to the twelve cylinders. Ferrari’s technical sheet specifies a 6,496 cm³, 65-degree V12 paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

Specification Ferrari figure
Maximum power 830 cv at 9,250 rpm
Maximum engine speed 9,500 rpm
Maximum torque 678 Nm at 7,250 rpm
0–100 km/h 2.9 seconds
Maximum speed Above 340 km/h
Boot volume 270 litres
Weight distribution 48.4% front / 51.6% rear
Combined consumption and CO₂ 15.5 l/100 km and 353 g/km, on Ferrari’s stated WLTC basis

What is it like to drive?

In his October 2024 road test, Top Gear’s Jason Barlow describes the 12Cilindri as more serious and approachable than the F12 or 812, with substantial grip, accessible steering and a notably serene ride. He reports that rear-wheel steering helps the car feel manageable, while the dual-clutch gearbox shifts rapidly without making the experience feel needlessly abrupt. Those are Barlow’s impressions from his review, not a guarantee of how every driver will experience the car.

The V12 remains the central event: it is a high-revving, naturally aspirated engine with its peak power near the top of its rev range. Yet the car’s character is not simply that of an 812 made more extreme. Top Gear presents it as a more rounded GT, less visceral than the 812 but still capable of serious pace. Auto Express similarly sees a combination of engaging performance and refinement for longer journeys.

The practical caveat in Barlow’s account is that the car’s extremities demand attention. He flags the 21-inch wheels as vulnerable and advises care around the front of the car. The 12Cilindri may feel approachable at speed, but its size, wheel vulnerability and performance still call for concentration on ordinary roads.

Is the 12Cilindri comfortable enough to tour?

That is one of its strongest arguments. Top Gear’s road test reports a surprisingly calm ride for a car with this level of performance, and Auto Express describes it as a luxurious two-seat GT as well as a fast sports car. In other words, the 12Cilindri is intended to cover distance without asking the driver to treat every mile as a track session.

Its touring credentials have limits: it seats two, and Ferrari lists 270 litres of boot volume. That is useful context for packing, but it does not turn the car into a practical family or luggage-hauling choice. Ferrari’s stated WLTC combined consumption is 15.5 l/100 km, with 353 g/km of CO₂; real-world use can differ from a standardized cycle.

How does it compare with the 812 and its alternatives?

The fairest comparison is about character and purpose rather than treating these cars as specification-for-specification substitutes. Top Gear places the 12Cilindri in the lineage of the F12 Berlinetta and 812 Superfast, while describing the newer car as more approachable and comfort-oriented than the 812. Auto Express identifies the Aston Martin Vanquish and Bentley Continental GT Speed as alternatives for buyers considering a high-performance grand tourer.

Comparison What the cited reviews establish
Ferrari 812 Superfast and F12 Berlinetta Top Gear’s October 2024 review treats them as predecessors in the 12Cilindri’s lineage and character comparison. It describes the 12Cilindri as more rounded and less visceral than the 812.
Aston Martin Vanquish Named by Auto Express in October 2024 as an alternative. The cited review does not establish a directly matched specification comparison.
Bentley Continental GT Speed Named by Auto Express in October 2024 as an alternative. It differs in engine and powertrain configuration, so the comparison is principally about the grand-touring proposition.

For a buyer, the useful questions are whether a naturally aspirated V12 matters more than a different powertrain, whether the car’s ride and usability suit the journeys planned, and whether its design appeals in person. A fixed-roof coupe and an open-top Spider also serve different preferences; the cited UK price figures are below.

What are the coupe and Spider prices?

Auto Express listed UK review prices of £336,500 for the coupe and £366,500 for the Spider on 2 October 2024. These are dated UK figures, not a current quotation or a price for every market. Confirm availability, specification and current pricing with Ferrari in the relevant country.

The Spider adds the open-air choice, while the coupe keeps a fixed roof. The £30,000 difference between those October 2024 UK review prices describes that specific dated comparison only; it should not be treated as a current or globally applicable premium.

What are the drawbacks?

Styling is a matter of taste

The design is deliberately distinctive, but that does not make it universally appealing. Auto Express calls the styling challenging at first. If the shape is a major part of the purchase, seeing the car in person matters more than relying on photographs or a headline verdict.

The cabin controls can take patience

Auto Express describes the steering-wheel controls and infotainment menus as fussy and less intuitive. Its review identifies a 10.25-inch driver display and a 15.6-inch central display, but screen size alone does not resolve the usability concern. Buyers should try the controls in the cabin rather than assume the interface will feel straightforward.

The price is extreme

Both reviews emphasize the cost: Top Gear calls the car “ferociously expensive,” and Auto Express lists price among its drawbacks. At this level, the question is not just whether the 12Cilindri is fast, but whether its particular blend of V12 character, comfort and design is worth the outlay to the buyer.

Is the Ferrari 12Cilindri a good car?

For a buyer who specifically wants a naturally aspirated Ferrari V12 in a two-seat GT, the 12Cilindri makes a compelling case: its claimed performance is immense, and road-test accounts describe it as more comfortable and approachable than the 812 while retaining serious pace. It is less persuasive for someone who needs easy cabin controls, unquestioned styling, low running costs or value measured by practicality. Its merits depend on wanting this particular combination, not simply wanting a very fast car.
