Quando o carro precisa usar farol baixo durante o dia?
Para automóveis sem DRL, a obrigação vale nas rodovias de pista simples situadas fora do perímetro urbano. Não é uma exigência geral para toda rodovia: a regra atual está no art. 40 do Código de Trânsito Brasileiro (CTB).

Se o carro não tem luz de rodagem diurna, mantenha o farol baixo aceso durante o dia nesse tipo de rodovia. A orientação da Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) esclarece que a exigência específica não se aplica quando o veículo já dispõe de DRL, quando a rodovia é duplicada ou quando o trecho fica dentro do perímetro urbano.

Independentemente da regra para rodovias de pista simples, o CTB exige farol baixo durante o dia em túneis e sob chuva, neblina ou cerração. Verifique essas condições separadamente: ter DRL não elimina a obrigação prevista para essas situações.

Como identificar a situação da sua viagem
Para saber se o farol baixo é obrigatório, confira os fatores pertinentes ao seu veículo e ao trecho:
- Tipo de veículo: automóvel, motocicleta, motoneta, ciclomotor ou veículo de transporte coletivo.
- Rodovia: para automóveis sem DRL, verifique se é de pista simples.
- Localização: a regra para automóveis sem DRL vale fora do perímetro urbano.
- Iluminação do veículo: confira se o carro tem DRL.
- Condições do trecho: use luz baixa em túneis e sob chuva, neblina ou cerração.
O que mudou em relação à regra antiga?
A regra ampla que entrou em vigor em 2016 foi alterada pela Lei 14.071/2020, em vigor desde 12 de abril de 2021. Para automóveis, a redação atual não exige farol baixo durante o dia em toda rodovia: a obrigação se concentra nas rodovias de pista simples fora do perímetro urbano quando o veículo não dispõe de DRL. As exigências para túneis e condições meteorológicas adversas permanecem separadas.

Qual é a penalidade por dirigir sem farol quando ele é obrigatório?
