The images point to revised front and rear styling and a more thoroughly updated cabin, but they do not establish a lap time, final design, powertrain output or official launch date. What the Nürburgring sighting shows
Carscoops reports that BMW is fine-tuning camouflaged M5 sedan prototypes at the Nürburgring. The sighting is evidence that development testing is underway; it is not a published lap-time result or an independently measured performance test.

How the facelifted M5 may look
Carscoops interprets the test car as having slimmer headlights, a revised kidney grille, reshaped bumper intakes, updated rear-light graphics and a reworked rear bumper. The overall profile is expected to carry over. BMWBLOG’s October 5 spy report likewise describes separate kidney grilles and thicker taillights than those on smaller Neue Klasse models, pointing to an evolutionary design rather than a wholesale exterior reset.

Those are interpretations of camouflaged prototypes, not confirmed production details. Carscoops notes that the current model’s available 20- and 21-inch M Performance wheels might continue, but their availability after the facelift has not been established.
What may change inside
Reporting suggests a more substantial cabin revision than the expected exterior update. Carscoops cites earlier images of a Touring prototype that reportedly show a larger infotainment display, a redesigned steering wheel and a Panoramic iDrive-style screen extending along the base of the windshield. BMWBLOG also expects a substantially revised dashboard.

These features have not been confirmed by BMW for the facelifted sedan. The reported interior evidence comes from prototype imagery and should be treated as an indication of what may be planned, not a final equipment list.
Is the V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain changing?
No confirmed facelift powertrain specifications have been published in the cited reporting. The current M5 is a plug-in hybrid with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8, an electric motor and an 18.6-kWh battery, according to Carscoops. Its reported combined output is 717 hp (535 kW; 727 PS) and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm). These are current-model figures, not confirmed specifications for the facelift.

For the current sedan, Carscoops reports 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds; it gives 3.6 seconds for the Touring. SEMA’s report, crediting Andreas Conradt and Automedia, relays BMW’s 0–60 mph claim of 3.5 seconds for the current sedan and says a properly equipped car can reach up to 189 mph. That top-speed figure is conditional, not a claim for every configuration. None of these numbers establishes how the facelift will perform.
The title’s reference to a “heavy body” is not a verified facelift weight figure. Carscoops calls the current M5 2.5 tons in its handling discussion but does not specify a measurement standard; the cited reporting does not establish an exact curb weight for the facelift.

When is the facelifted BMW M5 expected?
Carscoops and BMWBLOG reporting point to a 2027 reveal or arrival. BMW has not announced a date in the cited sources, so 2027 is a forecast, not a confirmed debut or on-sale schedule.
