One spectator told Malay Mail he waited more than three hours between leaving the circuit and boarding a bus; that is an individual account, not an average wait. Sepang International Circuit (SIC) acknowledged challenges during the evening departure period. Saturday reports described smoother queues, but did not establish that every transport problem had been resolved.
What fans reported after Friday practice
The complaints followed Friday, October 2, practice at Sepang in Malaysia, where the Bahrain Grand Prix event was being held. Reports by CNA and Malay Mail described long shuttle-bus queues, road congestion and criticism of crowd management. Some complaints also mentioned difficulty getting drinking water. These were reported accounts and social-media complaints, not a representative survey of spectators.

Malay Mail reported that British content creator Ryan Howlett said he left at 5:45 p.m. and boarded a bus at 9 p.m. His account illustrates the delay some fans experienced, but it does not establish a typical or measured wait time for everyone at the circuit. CNA also reported social-media accounts of people walking several kilometres along main roads and motorways to leave the area.
What the shuttle plan promised
Before the event, Rapid KL announced a plan for 95 free shuttle buses serving three hubs—KLIA Terminal 2, Mitsui Outlet Park and Bandar Baru Enstek—with service between 7 a.m. and midnight. Malay Mail reported that buses were planned at 10-to-15-minute intervals, depending on traffic. Those figures describe the announced service, not verified bus frequency during Friday’s congestion.

Malay Mail also reported that Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) expected more than 200,000 spectators across the three-day event and advised public transport because parking was limited and congestion was expected. Separately, Grandprix.com reported an expectation of 100,000 ticket sales over three days. These are different reported expectations, not confirmed final attendance figures, and should not be treated as interchangeable.
SIC acknowledged departure difficulties
In a statement reported by The Star on October 3, SIC said: “We recognise the challenges experienced by some fans travelling to and from the circuit yesterday (Friday), particularly during the evening departure period.” SIC also stated: “The experience and safety of our fans remain our highest priority at Sepang International Circuit.”

The circuit advised attendees to plan their journeys in advance and check official social-media channels for the latest travel information. It also urged spectators to follow officials and on-ground signs. Because travel conditions and instructions can change during an event, the latest official notice and directions at the venue matter more than an earlier timetable.
Did transport improve on Saturday?
CNA later reported that Malay Mail described smoother queues on Saturday, October 3, with more staff, marshals and police present. That was a same-day update on a changing operating situation, not confirmation that all delays or access problems had ended.

The reports document a gap between the announced shuttle arrangements and some fans’ experience leaving the circuit, amid road congestion and reported restrictions on private or e-hailing vehicle access near the circuit perimeter. They do not establish a definitive official cause or assign sole responsibility to SIC, Bahrain International Circuit, Rapid KL or local authorities. The sources cited here also do not provide a final post-event assessment or confirmed attendance total.
What to check before travelling to a future event
For a future visit, compare the current official travel notice with your arrival and departure plans. Confirm the details that can affect a journey in practice:
- Shuttle hubs and destination: Check which pickup points are operating and whether they serve the circuit or a specific terminal.
- Hours and expected frequency: Read the operating window and any stated interval, including whether frequency depends on traffic.
- Vehicle access: Verify where private cars and e-hailing vehicles may drop off or collect passengers, especially near the circuit perimeter.
- Notice timing: Check the date and time of the latest official update, then follow signs and staff directions on site.
The available reports do not show that one transport mode was consistently faster during Friday’s disruption, so no mode can be recommended as a guaranteed way around delays.
