The split reflects different priorities rather than one universal verdict. The critic reviews listed by Metacritic include praise for Career improvements and handling, alongside criticism that the annual update is modest and concerns such as AI behavior. The evidence supports a mixed reception; it does not support saying critics agreed on one decisive strength or flaw.
Why are opinions divided?
Career mode is a central part of the upgrade
EA presented an overhauled Career mode as one of the game’s main changes. Reviewers who value a more engaging career experience have a concrete reason to welcome F1 24. But the existence of a redesigned mode does not, by itself, establish that every player will find it a major improvement; its value depends on how much of your time you spend in Career.

The revised handling changes the feel of driving
EA also highlighted Dynamic Handling, describing a changed driving model. That makes handling a defining point of comparison, but it does not settle whether the change feels better. Review coverage is varied, and preferences can differ with expectations, driving style and input device. Consider whether you want a different feel from the previous game rather than assuming that the revised model is automatically an improvement.
Annual-update criticism is about value, not whether the game works
Some reviewers see a relatively incremental release. That criticism matters most when you are comparing F1 24 with the previous annual entry: a new feature can be worthwhile in isolation yet still feel too limited to justify replacing a game you already own. Issues such as AI behavior may also affect how convincing the package feels to a particular reviewer.

Is F1 24 worth buying if you own last year’s game?
Use the features you care about—not the aggregate score alone—as your decision test:
- Consider upgrading if the revamped Career mode is a major draw for you, or you specifically want to try the revised handling.
- Consider waiting if you mainly want a substantially different annual release and the listed changes do not address anything you want from your current game.
- Judge the handling on your own terms if driving feel is the deciding factor. Reviews do not establish a single input method or handling preference as best for everyone.
- Check current price and availability before buying. No current price comparison, retail stock or sale status is established here, so the value calculation depends on the offer available to you.
Does the answer differ for someone new to the series?
Yes. A newcomer is not weighing the game against a previous annual purchase, so criticism of incremental change is less decisive. The more useful questions are whether the Career mode and driving feel appeal to you and whether the available version and price suit your plans. Do you need a racing wheel to play?
No evidence here establishes a wheel as a prerequisite. EA’s PC supported-device list names the Logitech G923 and wheel bases from Fanatec, Thrustmaster, Moza and other brands. That list is useful for checking supported PC hardware, but it does not show that all listed models behave identically on every platform or that a wheel improves every player’s experience.
