Errol Quartermaine’s Super Stock car rolled onto its roof during Friday-night racing at the 48th Goldenstates event at Perth Motorplex in November 2022. He said he was uninjured, described how the car lost traction and hit a wall, and estimated from its data logger that the impact was around 7g. What happened to Errol Quartermaine at Perth Motorplex?
In an account published by PerthNow on 15 November 2022, reporter Steve Butler described Quartermaine’s Super Stock car flipping onto its roof during Friday-night racing at the 48th Goldenstates event. The car slid across the opposite side of the track and hit a concrete wall; sparks were visible. Quartermaine said it was heading toward 300 km/h before the crash.
Quartermaine’s explanation was that the tyres were turning as he fought for traction. The car moved to the right and began to lift, then hit the right-side wall, rolled onto its roof and slid to a stop upside down. “It was having a good run up until it wasn’t,” he told PerthNow.
He said he waited for the safety crew to roll the car upright before getting out. His estimate of an impact of around 7g came from his reading of the car’s data logger; it was not reported as an independently verified measurement.

Was Errol Quartermaine injured?
Quartermaine told PerthNow he had no injuries. Perth Motorplex general manager Paul Trengove, speaking to Channel 7 as quoted in the article, described him as battered and bruised and said the venue’s fire and rescue crew got him out and to safety. Trengove also said Quartermaine had the correct safety gear on, but neither the 2022 report nor the quoted remarks identify the equipment’s model, manufacturer or certification.
Quartermaine said the car needed a lengthy repair, perhaps extending over the coming year, and that he intended to race again when it was ready. Later coverage records him competing: the National Drag Racing Championship reported that he won Super Stock at the 53rd annual MacTrack Westernationals in March 2024, and Perth Motorplex’s 11 April 2025 preview listed him in Super Comp standings for the 2024/25 championship finale. Those dated reports do not establish the repair history or whether he raced the same car.

How did the 2022 crash compare with the 2017 rollover?
These were two distinct incidents, about five years apart, at the venue described in 2017 as Kwinana Motorplex and in the 2022 report as Perth Motorplex. The 2022 article called the later crash eerily similar and placed it at almost exactly the same spot. The reports describe both cars ending upside down and Quartermaine escaping with little or no injury, but the reported details differ.

What did officials say about the crash?
Trengove said the cars and safety equipment used by the racers were meant to withstand this kind of impact, and credited the venue’s fire and rescue crew with getting Quartermaine out and to safety. He described Quartermaine as an experienced driver and said, “A crash like that is pretty rare, but they can happen.”
Quartermaine’s account of waiting for the crew to right the car before he exited is specific to his 2022 description. His account of staying in a harness comes from the separate 2017 crash and should not be taken as identification of the 2022 vehicle’s equipment.

What happened in Quartermaine’s racing career afterward?
Competition reports provide dated evidence of later racing activity, but not a complete account of his return after the crash. ANDRA listed Quartermaine as runner-up in Super Stock at the 47th Goldenstates at Perth Motorplex in a report dated 28 November 2021. The NDRC reported his Super Stock win at the 2024 Westernationals, and Perth Motorplex’s April 2025 preview listed him in Super Comp standings. These records do not establish his current racing status.
