A court-supervised sale of assets tied to Italian electric-motorcycle maker Energica drew a reported US$3.5 million starting bid and US$4.65 million reserve in March 2025. Those figures are sale terms, not a confirmed purchase price. A separate listing for Energica’s business branch used different terms in euros, and available records do not establish that the whole branch sold or remains available today.
What the “under $5 million” figure means
New Atlas reported on March 24, 2025, that the sale it covered had a US$3.5 million starting bid and a US$4.65 million reserve. A starting bid is an opening threshold; a reserve is the minimum acceptable amount set for a sale. Neither figure, on its own, shows what a buyer ultimately paid. New Atlas’s report also cited an assessed liquidation value of €660,758 for tangible assets. That is a reported valuation of tangible property, not the sale price of the business.
A separate court-supervised business-branch sale had different terms. The Enti e Tribunali listing, published December 17, 2024, set a €5.7 million base and a €4.275 million minimum offer for a sale scheduled for January 30, 2025. These euro amounts and the US-dollar bid and reserve reported by New Atlas refer to different sale terms and potentially different stages of the process; they should not be treated as directly interchangeable or as evidence of a completed transaction.
What was included in the business branch
The Court of Modena sale notice described a business branch for studying, developing, designing, producing, and commercially selling high-performance electric motorcycles and motors for both competition and road use. The judicial listing described a package that reached beyond physical motorcycles and factory equipment:

New Atlas separately described liquidation inventory that included motorcycles and prototypes, spare parts, stock, and manufacturing equipment. Examples in its report included test equipment, a laser marker, vertical storage systems, and bikes or prototypes associated with the Ego Corsa, SS9, Eva Ribelle, and Experia. These are reported examples of liquidation assets, not a verified complete inventory or proof that those items are currently available for purchase.
Why Energica was being sold
Energica entered judicial liquidation in October 2024, according to New Atlas. The creditor portal identifies procedure 101/2024 as a judicial liquidation opened on October 22, 2024, before the Court of Modena, with Giuseppe Cigarini listed as receiver. The portal also displays later procedural hearings, including one listed for June 3, 2026; a scheduled hearing is not confirmation of the business-branch sale’s result. The creditor portal’s procedure record is the relevant place to distinguish the ongoing liquidation process from the outcome of any particular sale.

New Atlas characterized Energica as established in 2009 and reported that it was the sole supplier for MotoE from 2019 through 2022, before Ducati took over in 2023. Those details help explain the company’s place in electric motorcycling, but they do not establish the value or eventual disposition of the assets.

The available records do not confirm whether the business branch was sold, who might have acquired it, or whether it remains available today. Later Enti e Tribunali listings concern individual assets, including incomplete motorcycles and components and an Experia motorcycle. Individual asset listings do not prove that the whole business branch sold, nor do they establish that any particular auction succeeded. Enti e Tribunali’s later listings should therefore not be read as a current offer for the entire company.

Anyone considering a bid or acquisition would need to check the current Court of Modena procedure and receiver’s sale records for live terms, availability, and sale results. The headline’s “under $5 mil” describes a reported threshold in one sale account; it is not a verified acquisition price or a reliable statement that Energica is still on the market.
