Electrify America Lets Businesses Own and Brand EV Charging Networks

Electrify America distinguishes between hosting its public stations and owning a branded business network. Here is what the company says each option includes and what to confirm in a contract.

Yes. Electrify America offers businesses a way to own a branded EV charging network, including the equipment, while Electrify America manages deployment and maintenance. That is different from hosting public Electrify America stations: in the host model, the company says it pays the upfront design and installation capital, but the site joins Electrify America’s network rather than becoming the business’s own branded network.

Electrify America offers two different business arrangements

Electrify America’s business materials describe both public station hosting and a separately owned business network. The distinction matters: hosting is a way to add Electrify America-branded network stations to a property; the owned-network option gives the business ownership and more direct control over branding and pricing.

Feature Public Electrify America station hosting Business-owned branded network
Who owns the network and equipment? The business joins Electrify America’s network as a site host. The public description does not state that the host owns the network or equipment. Electrify America business solutions Electrify America says the business owns the network and equipment. Electrify America business-owned network
Branding and pricing Participation in Electrify America’s network; the host page does not describe business control of network branding or charger pricing. Electrify America business solutions The business can customize charger branding and control station pricing. Electrify America business-owned network
Upfront design and installation capital Electrify America says it covers 100% of upfront design and installation capital for new charging stations. Electrify America host a station Specific capital obligations and contract costs are not stated on the public offer page. Electrify America business-owned network
Maintenance Electrify America says it covers maintenance and upkeep costs for new stations. Electrify America host a station Electrify America says it manages maintenance; the public page does not specify all cost allocations or contract terms. Electrify America business-owned network
Data and usage insights Not stated on the host page. Electrify America host a station Electrify America presents its Nucleus Portal as providing insights into station usage, charging sessions, and customer behavior. Electrify America business-owned network

What owning and branding the network means

Electrify America describes the offer with the phrase, “Your network, powered by Electrify America, but owned by you.” It says the business owns the network and equipment, can apply its branding to chargers, and controls station pricing. Electrify America also presents the Nucleus Portal as a way to view usage, session, and customer-behavior insights.

Electrify America says it manages planning, permitting, construction, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance for this arrangement. Its business-solutions page describes the scope this way: “We manage the entire electrification process — from initial planning to ongoing maintenance — so you don’t have to.” That describes the company’s published offer; the executed agreement determines responsibilities, costs, and service commitments for a particular project.

How hosting differs

With public station hosting, a business makes a suitable property available for stations on Electrify America’s network. Electrify America says it pays 100% of upfront design and installation capital and covers maintenance and upkeep costs for new stations. Hosting therefore does not, based on the public description, give the business the ownership, branding, and pricing control advertised for the separate owned-network offer.

Electrify America’s host page currently seeks properties suitable for hyper-fast stations with 10 or more chargers. It identifies retail proximity, available parking, and proximity to power as desirable site characteristics. These criteria are screening guidance, not a guarantee that a particular property can be built out; the company’s FAQ says a team member will contact a prospective host if there is a business need. Submitting an inquiry is not acceptance.

What a business should verify before choosing

The public descriptions establish the broad difference between the two offers, not a site-specific deal or a complete lifetime-cost comparison. Before choosing, ask Electrify America for written terms covering:

  • Which party owns each charger, electrical upgrade, and other installed asset, and what happens to them if the agreement ends.
  • Who pays for electricity, utility upgrades, demand charges, insurance, taxes, network fees, and repairs beyond routine maintenance.
  • How station pricing is set, how receipts or other revenues are handled, and whether any revenue share applies.
  • Service levels, uptime commitments, response times, warranty coverage, and responsibility for maintenance costs.
  • Who controls the charger branding, customer relationship, and access to station and session data.
  • Site-specific construction scope, permitting schedule, utility capacity, and any conditions that could delay or prevent installation.

For an owned network, ask for the investment and operating assumptions needed to evaluate the project: expected utilization, local electricity tariffs and demand charges, installation costs, incentives, and ongoing operating responsibilities. The public pages do not establish a guaranteed return, utilization level, payback period, or universal revenue share.

EVIQO Level 2 EV Charger J1772 40A NEMA 14-50 - 240V Wall Charging Station
  • WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
  • PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
  • CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
  • SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
  • GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.

Can charging bring customers into a business?

Electrify America’s owned-network page says charging sessions last 20–30 minutes and suggests customers may spend that time at the business. That is the company’s marketing rationale, not a promise about how long customers will stay or how much they will spend. Actual dwell time and business impact will depend on the site, customers, and station use.

The host page also reports a projection of 18.7 million EVs on U.S. roads by 2030 and says 81% of EV owners report charger availability makes them more loyal to a business. Electrify America does not identify the original publisher or survey behind the 81% figure on that page, so it should be treated as a company-reported marketing statistic, not an independently established industry result.

Which arrangement makes sense?

Consider hosting if

  • Your priority is making Electrify America public charging available at your site, rather than owning a branded network.
  • Your property may meet the current host criteria, including space for 10 or more chargers, and you are willing to submit it for review.
  • You want Electrify America’s stated coverage of upfront design and installation capital and station maintenance, subject to the final agreement.

Consider the owned-network offer if

  • Ownership of the network and equipment, company-specific charger branding, or control over station pricing are central requirements.
  • You want the Nucleus Portal insights Electrify America describes for usage, charging sessions, and customer behavior.
  • You can assess the project using site-specific costs, responsibilities, and operating assumptions provided in a proposal and contract.

Neither public offer page supplies enough detail to conclude which arrangement will cost less over time or produce a better financial return. Those outcomes depend on the proposal, contract, site, utility costs, and actual charging demand.
