Your electric scooter battery is covered only under the terms that apply to your model, market and purchase date. Start with the warranty booklet or policy version in force when you bought the scooter; there is no universal battery-warranty term or capacity-loss threshold. Then check whether the problem is a covered defect, normal aging or an excluded cause, and follow the required claim process before authorizing repairs.
What does an electric scooter battery warranty cover?
A warranty may cover a manufacturing or functional defect, but the precise coverage, term and remedy depend on the manufacturer, model, battery type, sales market and purchase date. Some contracts also cover battery capacity falling below a specified threshold; others exclude natural degradation. The written terms and the manufacturer’s diagnosis determine which category applies.

These are examples of contract terms, not a comparative ranking or a promise about any other scooter. For any warranty you are evaluating, check when coverage starts, what defects or capacity limits qualify, whether mileage is capped, what care is required, and who pays for diagnosis, labor, shipping or replacement. Also check transferability and whether an extended plan is a separate paid service contract. Is normal battery degradation covered?
Gradual loss of range or capacity is not automatically a defect. A sudden failure to charge, power loss or inability to operate may raise a different warranty question, but symptoms alone do not establish eligibility. The policy’s definitions and an authorized diagnostic result matter; range by itself may not prove a defect or a covered capacity level.
Terms vary even where a plan includes a capacity-related promise. VinFast’s Vietnam-market policy excludes natural degradation. ENGWE’s optional extended coverage excludes natural aging below 85% of original capacity while covering specified performance failures not caused by the user. Ather’s India-market Eight70 add-on states that it covers a battery health drop below 70% within its stated eight-year or 80,000 km term. These limits apply only to the respective policies and eligibility conditions, not to scooters generally.

Do not assume an app estimate, consumer tester, multimeter or range check is the accepted measure of battery health. Ask the manufacturer or authorized service center what diagnostic method it uses and what documentation it accepts.
What can exclude a battery claim?
Use the exact policy for your scooter and purchase cohort. Exclusions differ. For example, VinFast’s published policy lists natural degradation, improper use or storage, unauthorized modifications or repairs, accidents and flood exposure, and certain battery damage linked to storage or heat. ENGWE’s optional extended plan excludes user-caused damage, unauthorized repair or modification, and normal battery aging. Those examples do not establish exclusions for other brands.

Before submitting a claim, check the relevant clauses for:
- Misuse, accident, impact or water exposure.
- Unauthorized repair, modification or disassembly.
- Charging, storage, heat or maintenance requirements.
- Wear or gradual capacity loss.
- Required inspections, servicing or authorized diagnosis.
Do not open the battery pack or attempt electrical diagnostics unless the manufacturer’s safety instructions specifically authorize the procedure. Ask whether work must be approved or performed by an authorized service center before you disassemble, repair or ship anything.

Does a new warranty policy apply to a scooter bought earlier?
Do not assume that a policy currently displayed online governs an earlier purchase. Find the version that applied when you bought the scooter and compare it with the current policy only if you need to understand a change. VinFast states that its newer policy applies to purchases from its effective date and that earlier purchases remain subject to the former policy. Your own booklet, purchase date, model and market are controlling details.

How to make an electric scooter battery warranty claim
- Locate the applicable warranty. Find the booklet supplied with the scooter and the official policy for its exact model, sales market and purchase date. Save a copy; the FTC recommends downloading or printing online warranty terms for your records. FTC: Warranties
- Gather purchase and product details. Keep the receipt or invoice, seller name, purchase date, model and serial number or VIN if applicable. Record the battery identifier only if it is accessible without opening the pack. The FTC notes that a receipt can help establish purchase date and original ownership. FTC: Warranties
- Document the symptoms. Write down when the problem began, what happens, any error messages, and usage or mileage information requested by the policy. Note charging and storage conditions relevant to its terms. Keep copies of service communications and shipping receipts.
- Contact the right claim channel. Use the seller, manufacturer or warranty administrator named in the policy. Before authorizing work, ask whether you need an authorized service center, a diagnostic test, pre-approval or return shipment.
- Keep a written record. Save the claim number, messages, diagnostic findings and any instructions. If a U.S. seller does not resolve the problem, FTC guidance suggests writing to the manufacturer and keeping proof that the letter was received. - If the claim is denied, request the basis. Ask for the denial in writing, including the policy clause and diagnostic findings relied on. Depending on your location and circumstances, you may contact a consumer-protection office or seek qualified legal advice; no particular remedy is guaranteed.
What consumer rights apply?
Consumer rights depend on where you bought and use the scooter. In the United States, FTC guidance says implied warranties may exist even when a product has no written warranty, subject to legal exceptions and state law. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act addresses aspects of written consumer warranties and service contracts, but whether it affects a particular scooter claim depends on the transaction, warranty terms, facts and applicable law.
