The Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Kia PV5 Passenger are two electric minivans to investigate, but the available specifications do not support a clean, same-market comparison of range, charging, space, and price. Volkswagen’s U.S. page advertises a $59,995 starting MSRP, 10–80% charging in 26 minutes on a 200 kW DC charger, and up to 145.5 cu. ft. of cargo capacity in a specific seat configuration. Kia’s figures come from different regional pages and variants. Check the country, model year, passenger configuration, and test procedure before treating any number as a direct comparison.

Which electric minivans should you compare?

Start with vehicles that are actually offered for sale or order in your country, in the model year you are considering. “Electric minivan” is a useful buyer-facing category, not a globally fixed vehicle class. The available official information here covers the Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Kia PV5 Passenger, but in different markets and with specifications that do not line up neatly. It does not establish that both are available everywhere, or that the listed trims can be ordered in the same country.

Volkswagen publishes U.S. ID. Buzz figures, while Kia’s relevant Passenger information comes from France and Austria. Kia Australia’s cited range figure, meanwhile, is for the PV5 Cargo Long Range—not the passenger version. These are useful leads for a shortlist, not a universal ranking. Confirm local orderability and local specifications with the automaker or a dealer before making a purchase decision.

The key comparison is not simply “Which number is bigger?” It is whether each number describes the same kind of vehicle, under the same test or measurement conditions, in the same market. For an electric minivan, the answers can change with battery and drivetrain, seating configuration, the market’s certification procedure, and the way a manufacturer defines usable space.

At a glance: what the available figures do and do not show

Vehicle and market Range information Charging information Space, towing, or price How to interpret it
Volkswagen ID. Buzz, United States A comparable passenger-van certified range figure is not established here. Volkswagen advertises 10–80% in 26 minutes using 200 kW DC fast charging. Starting MSRP advertised at $59,995. Maximum cargo capacity advertised at 145.5 cu. ft. with the second row folded and the third row removed. Manufacturer page figures accessed in 2026. The price is not a dealer quote; the charging time is conditional, and the cargo figure depends on the stated seat arrangement.
Kia PV5 Passenger, France A directly comparable passenger-van range figure is not established here. Kia advertises rapid charging in about 30 minutes; the charge window and conditions are not established as matching Volkswagen’s claim. Kia lists 750 kg braked towing capacity for the Standard Range. Regional manufacturer information accessed in 2026. Do not apply the towing figure to another variant or market.
Kia PV5 Passenger, Austria A directly comparable passenger-van range figure is not established here. No comparable charging figure is established here. Kia describes five- or seven-seat configurations. Regional information; it does not establish universal availability.
Kia PV5 Cargo Long Range, Australia The 2026 Kia Australia brochure lists 416 km WLTP for this Cargo variant. The brochure includes charging estimates for the Cargo variant, but they are not established here as Passenger figures. Cargo vehicle; passenger-space and Passenger range comparisons do not follow from this specification. Do not use the 416 km figure as the PV5 Passenger’s range.

The Volkswagen and Kia charging numbers are manufacturer claims from different markets, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. Likewise, the listed figures do not provide a complete comparison of the two vans’ passenger range, interior dimensions, or local purchase price.

How to compare electric-minivan range fairly

Match the test procedure first

Certified range numbers are meaningful side by side only when they use the same test procedure. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ technical guidance is direct: “Only compare electric range figures with other vehicles tested to the same technical procedures.” In practice, look for the test-cycle label attached to each figure—such as EPA or WLTP—and do not rank unlike cycles as if the results were measured on the same basis.

The Kia Australia brochure’s 416 km figure is specifically 2026 WLTP range for a PV5 Cargo Long Range. It cannot establish the Passenger model’s certified range, and it should not be compared as though it were the same vehicle configuration as a passenger van. The available information also does not establish a same-cycle passenger-range comparison with the U.S.-market ID. Buzz.

Match model year, battery, trim, and drivetrain

Even when two figures use the same test cycle, check that each one applies to the model year and configuration you can actually buy. Record the passenger or cargo body style, battery or range variant, and drivetrain beside the number. If one figure applies to a long-range cargo model and another to a passenger model, they answer different questions.

Use this checklist when collecting range figures:

  • Confirm that both vehicles are passenger versions, not cargo vans.
  • Write down the country, model year, trim or battery variant, and drivetrain attached to each specification.
  • Compare only figures labeled with the same official test procedure.
  • Keep a manufacturer’s estimated or advertised figure distinct from a figure certified under a stated regional cycle.
  • When one of those details is missing, treat the comparison as unresolved rather than filling the gap with another variant’s number.

Translate a certified number into your own use

A certified figure is a useful standardized reference, not a promise of the distance every driver will cover between charges. The material available here does not provide real-world test results for either van, so it cannot support a claim about which one travels farther in everyday use. For a purchase decision, use the locally published range for the exact trim you want, then consider whether your regular routes and charging access make that range workable. Do not substitute the Cargo model’s WLTP number for missing Passenger data.

What the charging claims mean—and what they leave unanswered

Volkswagen’s U.S. ID. Buzz page advertises a charge from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes using 200 kW DC fast charging. That description supplies both a state-of-charge window and a charger-power condition, making it more informative than a time estimate with no stated endpoints. It remains an advertised manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed result at every station or in every condition.

Kia France advertises rapid charging for the PV5 Passenger in about 30 minutes. The available information does not establish the same start and end charge levels, charger power, or other conditions as Volkswagen’s U.S. claim. A bare “26 minutes versus 30 minutes” comparison would therefore imply a controlled comparison that these figures do not provide.

What to verify for a local charging comparison

  • Charge window: Identify the starting and ending state of charge. Charging a smaller slice of the battery is not equivalent to charging a larger one.
  • Peak DC power: Note the stated charger power, if the manufacturer provides it. Volkswagen’s advertised U.S. figure specifies 200 kW; the cited Kia France estimate does not establish a matching condition here.
  • Vehicle and market: Confirm that the estimate is for the Passenger trim and model year on sale in your country.
  • Conditions: Treat manufacturer times as conditional, not as a universal stop duration. Volkswagen specifically cautions through its stated conditions that the advertised result is not assured under all temperatures or station conditions.
  • Home charging: If most charging will happen at home, check the vehicle’s locally applicable charging compatibility and your installation requirements before choosing equipment. The figures here do not establish a particular home charger, connector fit, or electrical installation suitability.

For travel planning, compare like-for-like manufacturer charging specifications, then check the vehicle’s local documentation for the full conditions. Do not infer an exact road-trip advantage from the two advertised times alone.

How to compare space without being misled by a maximum

Volkswagen advertises up to 145.5 cu. ft. of ID. Buzz cargo capacity when the second row is folded and the third row is removed. That is a useful maximum for a specific configuration, not a measurement of the luggage space available with every seat in place. A family that needs all passenger seats cannot assume it has that full cargo volume on a normal trip.

Kia Austria describes the PV5 Passenger in five- or seven-seat configurations. That establishes seating flexibility on that regional page, but it does not supply a matching cargo-volume figure or a same-method comparison with the ID. Buzz. The available specifications therefore do not establish which van has more usable space behind a particular row.

Ask for the measurement that fits your use

When comparing interior utility, ask the seller or consult the local specification sheet for cargo space with the seats in the position you will use. A comparison should state whether the third row is installed, folded, or removed and whether the second row is upright or folded. It should also identify the measurement standard. Without those details, a volume figure can describe a very different loadout from the one you need.

For a family or passenger shuttle, prioritize the space available with the required seats occupied. For bulky cargo, check the folded-seat or seat-removal setup and confirm that the vehicle can be configured that way in the trim offered locally. A maximum cargo-volume number is most useful when its exact seat arrangement is printed beside it.

Consider seating and towing separately

Seat count and cargo volume are related but not interchangeable. The PV5 Passenger’s five- or seven-seat configurations in Austria are a configuration fact, not a direct measure of legroom, access, or cargo room behind the last row. The cited information does not establish comparable passenger dimensions for the two vehicles.

Kia France lists 750 kg braked towing capacity for the PV5 Passenger Standard Range. That figure is specific to that stated version and market. It should not be generalized to other PV5 variants, the ID. Buzz, or another country’s specification. If towing matters, verify the exact local variant’s approved capacity and conditions rather than relying on a model-family figure.

What the price information can—and cannot—tell you

Volkswagen’s U.S. ID. Buzz page advertises a starting MSRP of $59,995. This is a page-checked advertised figure from 2026, not a dealer quote or a price that applies globally. It does not by itself settle the price of a particular trim after destination charges, local taxes, incentives, or dealer terms.

No matching local Kia PV5 Passenger price is established here, and the sources come from different countries. There is no sound basis in these figures for declaring one van cheaper overall. To build a useful price comparison, collect current quotes for the same country and model year, identify the trim and options, and account for the same tax and delivery treatment. If incentives apply, note which are available to you and whether they are reflected in the quoted amount.

Use a same-market price checklist

  • Confirm that each van is orderable in your country and for the model year you want.
  • Compare equivalent passenger configurations and trims, not a cargo van against a passenger van.
  • Ask whether the advertised amount is MSRP, a dealer quote, or a price after incentives.
  • Check destination or delivery charges, taxes, and the date the figure was verified.
  • Keep financing, lease terms, and incentives separate from the vehicle’s starting price unless you are comparing those terms directly.

Prices and local availability can change. A number published on an automaker page is a starting point for verification, not a substitute for a current, written quote for the exact configuration.

A practical way to choose between them

Use a shortlist only after replacing broad model names with market-specific versions. The following order prevents a tempting headline number from outweighing a requirement that the vehicle cannot meet:

  1. Set your market and model year. Check local orderability and specifications for the country where you will register the van.
  2. Confirm the passenger configuration. Decide how many seats you need and whether you expect to fold or remove any row for cargo.
  3. Compare certified range on a matching basis. Use the same test procedure and record the battery variant and drivetrain. If a Passenger figure is unavailable, mark it unknown instead of borrowing a Cargo figure.
  4. Check charging against your routine. Separate home charging needs from public DC fast-charging stops, and compare only charging estimates with matching start and end charge levels and stated conditions.
  5. Measure the space you will actually use. Seek cargo figures for the same seat positions and measurement basis, or inspect the van in the configuration you need.
  6. Obtain like-for-like local prices. Compare written quotes with equivalent trims, charges, taxes, and incentive treatment.
  7. Verify any version-specific capability. If towing is important, confirm the approved figure for the exact local variant rather than extrapolating from a different model or market.

If your decision depends on a direct range or interior-space winner, the available figures are not enough to name one. A fair comparison requires local Passenger specifications for both models, matching certification cycles, and cargo measurements taken with equivalent seating positions. For now, the verified numbers are most useful as specific reference points: Volkswagen’s U.S. advertised price, conditional fast-charge time, and configured maximum cargo volume; Kia’s regional seat-count information, France-specific Standard Range towing figure, and a separate Australian Cargo range that should not be treated as passenger range.
