The available U.S. figures are not enough to verify a market-wide top 10, so a ranked list would be misleading. They do support a transparent comparison of four current high-output electric cars—and a clear way to judge horsepower for the money once trim prices and fees are aligned.
How to compare electric-car horsepower per dollar
Use the same model year and market, and calculate the value for a specific trim—not a whole nameplate:
Horsepower per $1,000 = manufacturer-stated horsepower ÷ starting U.S. MSRP × 1,000
The result is a simple comparison metric, not a manufacturer rating. Use the trim’s own starting price, and state whether the price includes destination and other fees. Also specify whether the horsepower is standard or available only briefly through a boost mode.

Current U.S. examples with comparable trim-level figures
The following examples have both an output figure and a starting price in the available manufacturer information. Their ratios are arithmetic based on those figures, not an exhaustive ranking of the U.S. market. The price bases differ, so the ratios should be read as indicative rather than perfectly normalized.
| Model and trim | Model year or page | Horsepower used | Starting U.S. price and basis | Approx. hp per $1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai IONIQ 5 N | 2026 | 601 hp standard | $59,900; excludes freight, taxes, title, and license | 10.0 |
| Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack, two-door | 2026 | 670 hp | $59,995; excludes taxes, title, and $1,995 destination charge | 11.2 |
| Tesla Model 3 Performance | Current U.S. product page | 528 hp | $56,630; includes destination and order fees, excludes taxes and other fees | 9.3 |
| BMW i4 M60 Gran Coupe | 2026 | 593 hp in Sport mode | $70,700 starting MSRP | 8.4 |
Ratios are rounded to one decimal place and calculated from the listed horsepower and starting price before any additional fee normalization. Dodge’s destination charge makes its effective starting price higher than the MSRP shown; the manufacturer price pages use different conventions.

Why the IONIQ 5 N figure uses 601 hp
Hyundai lists 601 hp as standard output for the 2026 IONIQ 5 N and up to 641 hp for 10 seconds with N Grin Boost. Using the boosted figure would mix a temporary peak with the other cars’ listed outputs. On standard output, the car works out to about 10.0 hp per $1,000 before freight and other charges.
Why the BMW figure needs a qualification
BMW’s 2026 i4 M60 page lists 593 hp in its table and performance section, but gives 591 hp in an FAQ. The calculation above uses the 593-hp figure; that inconsistency should be resolved with BMW before treating the ratio as definitive.

Why this is not a verified top 10
A top-ten ranking requires ten current, trim-specific pairs of manufacturer horsepower and U.S. starting price, with consistent treatment of destination charges and output modes. The available figures do not establish that complete dataset. It would be misleading to fill the missing places with broad model-name comparisons or prices from a less powerful base trim.
Two examples illustrate the problem. Kia lists 320 hp for several 2026 EV6 AWD trims, but the reviewed overview’s $37,900 price is for the Light SR RWD, not one of those 320-hp AWD trims. Nissan lists a $29,990 starting price for the 2026 LEAF S+, before destination and handling, but the available price announcement does not establish its horsepower. Neither can be ranked responsibly from those figures alone.

What horsepower-per-dollar does—and does not—tell you
The ratio is useful for comparing stated power against the upfront price of a particular trim. It does not measure acceleration, traction, range, charging speed, handling, or total ownership cost. It also depends on how a manufacturer reports combined output from multiple electric motors.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency explains in its February 2026 2025 Automotive Trends Report that determining overall horsepower for multi-motor battery-electric vehicles can be complicated by how the motors are integrated, and that BEV horsepower figures may have higher uncertainty. Treat small differences in calculated ratios as a rough screen, not proof that one vehicle will feel faster or deliver better overall value.

For context, the EPA reports average new-vehicle output of 258 hp for model year 2024 and a preliminary 264 hp for model year 2025. Those fleet-wide figures provide context only; they are not an EV-specific benchmark or a basis for this comparison.
