BMW’s eighth-generation 3 Series brings electric i3 models and petrol-powered 3 Series variants together under the Neue Klasse design language. This gallery shows the cars from exterior and interior angles, including details that distinguish the electric i3 50 xDrive from the petrol M350 xDrive.
What does the eighth-generation BMW 3 Series look like?
BMW unveiled the eighth-generation 3 Series in October 2026. The official gallery moves from front and side views to rear angles and close-up details, with dynamic road images of a blue i3 50 xDrive and a red M350 xDrive. BMW’s captions also show the i3’s rear, the M350’s rear details, and interiors of both cars.

This is not a G20 gallery: BMW identifies the G20 as the seventh generation. The new cars mark the next chapter in a model line with more than 50 years of history and more than 18 million units sold, according to BMW Group’s October 2026 launch account.

The electric i3 and petrol 3 Series share the Neue Klasse design language, and BMW says their designs and interiors are largely identical, with minor technical differences. The gallery lets you compare the front and rear styling and cabin presentation. It also makes the powertrain distinction visible: BMW’s captions include an M350 engine-bay view and an i3 front luggage-compartment view.

Do not assume the cars have identical dimensions. BMW says architectural differences between the electric and petrol versions result in slight variations in dimensions, wheelbases, overhangs and track widths.
Which versions are included in BMW’s launch range?
BMW Group’s global launch account lists five variants across two drive systems: two electric i3 models and three petrol-powered 3 Series models. Names and availability vary by market, so this global lineup should not be read as a promise that every version will be sold in every country.

These are figures in BMW Group’s global October 2026 launch material; WLTP range figures are not directly interchangeable with regional estimates using other test methods. BMW’s US release presents a different lineup and quotes up to 468 miles for the i3 50 xDrive in its US-market presentation.
Where does the eighth generation fit in 3 Series history?
The new generation takes the 3 Series into BMW’s Neue Klasse era, while carrying forward a nameplate BMW says has been in production for more than five decades. BMW’s 2025 history identifies the G20 as generation seven, making this launch the eighth generation. BMW Development board member Dr Joachim Post called it “the best BMW 3 Series of all time”; that is BMW’s own assessment, not an independent ranking.
