Yes—dealers participate in TrueCar’s commercial program, which can provide inventory listings, marketing, and shopper leads. For a dealership, participation means a service agreement with specific fees and operating rules; it is not simply accepting a customer’s TrueCar price. For a shopper, a TrueCar inquiry may be routed to a participating dealer, but that does not establish the dealer’s final price or guarantee a particular buying experience.
What dealers use TrueCar for
TrueCar’s 2024 Form 10-K describes its core dealer product as inventory listings and lead generation. Franchise dealers can list new and used vehicles, while independent dealers can list used vehicles on TrueCar.com and affiliated sites. When shoppers submit inquiries, dealers may receive their contact information. This is TrueCar’s description of its business model, not an independent assessment of lead quality. TrueCar also markets dealer solutions for reaching shoppers it describes as in-market in the next 30–60 days, including audiences through affinity partners. That is the company’s targeting description, not independent evidence that a dealer will receive a certain number of qualified leads or sales. TrueCar dealer portal
What TrueCar announced about dealer standards
In an announcement dated March 17, 2026, TrueCar said participating dealers would provide individualized offers below their lowest publicly advertised price and regular sales-verification data originating from the dealer’s management system. The company said the standards are intended to increase sales velocity while protecting dealer margins. The announcement does not establish the obligations of every dealer or how a particular contract enforces them; dealers should check their current agreement and service requirements. Fees depend on the service and contract
There is no single fee established for every dealer using TrueCar. The surfaced dealer terms describe a monthly subscription for a lead-guarantee version of the Auto Information Service, with a fee report and estimated lead target. They also describe pay-per-sale fees for some Independent Dealer Service enrollments. The applicable registration or fee report supplies the specific charge, and terms can vary by service. TrueCar dealer terms and service requirements
A separate TrueCar terms page specifies a $299 service fee for each vehicle purchased through its Sell Your Car Service within 90 days in states using a pay-per-purchase model. That fee applies to that service and those conditions; it is not a universal price for the dealer program. The page also describes subscription charges. A dealer evaluating an offer should verify the current product, state, fee report, attribution window, and termination terms in its own contract. TrueCar service terms
Dealer requirements and fit
TrueCar’s Auto Information Service requirements say dealers must complete requested training, including its Dealer Certification Program for representatives who assist customers. They also say leads should be handled through a CRM, LMS, or dealer-hosted email address. A store should assess whether its staff and lead-response workflow can meet those requirements before enrolling. TrueCar dealer terms and service requirements
When reviewing a proposal, ask how its terms address:
Rank #3
- Fees, billing structure, and any lead guarantee or target.
- How a sale is attributed to a TrueCar lead and the length of the attribution window.
- Expected lead fit for the dealership’s geography and inventory.
- Any offer, pricing, or sales-verification obligations that apply.
- CRM/DMS workflow, training, and lead-handling requirements.
- Renewal, cancellation, and termination provisions.
These are questions to resolve against the dealer’s own proposal and contract; available information does not establish that TrueCar outperforms other lead providers.
What shoppers should expect
A shopper using TrueCar’s consumer program is interacting with a consumer-facing service, while a dealership’s participation is governed by its own commercial enrollment and service terms. TrueCar describes the dealer network as a way for shoppers to connect with participating dealers; a submitted inquiry is not, by itself, a guarantee of a particular final price or that the dealer’s offer meets every shopper’s expectations. What is known about dealer results
The available sources do not establish a representative, independently verified figure for dealer profitability, conversion rate, cost per sale, or typical lead quality. TrueCar’s dealer portal includes promotional performance claims and case-study references, but the available material does not provide enough context to treat a quantified result as typical. Dealer-forum posts are anecdotes, not reliable evidence of current fees or expected outcomes.
