A fire-safety concept reported in 2025 would detect signs of battery trouble and physically separate an electric vehicle’s battery pack from the car. The idea is attributed to China’s Vehicle Collision Repair Technical and Research Center and Joyson Electronics, but the available reporting does not establish that it has been installed in a production vehicle or validated in vehicle-level tests.
What the reported system is meant to do
Unlike a conventional fire suppressant, the reported concept would remove the battery pack from the vehicle when signs of a battery emergency are detected. Its stated aim is physical separation, not extinguishing the battery fire. InsideEVs reported the concept in 2025 and associated it with the Chinese Vehicle Collision Repair Technical and Research Center and Joyson Electronics. The accessible evidence supports attributing those details to the news report, not treating them as independently confirmed primary-source claims. InsideEVs’ report
Is a car already using it?
The available reporting does not establish production use, certification, independent vehicle testing, or performance results for the reported system. No verified statistic for its deployment or effectiveness was established. It is therefore best understood as a reported concept—not a feature buyers can currently expect in an EV.
Why separating a battery might not put out a fire
A lithium-ion battery can continue undergoing dangerous internal reactions after visible flames are suppressed. In a 2020 puncture-test study involving lithium iron phosphate batteries, dry powder extinguished visible flames but did not stop the internal reactions, and the researchers reported a high risk of reignition. - Efficient Fire Control: Our fiberglass fire blanket rapidly cuts off oxygen and withstands extreme heat up to 2012°F (1100°C)—the same high-risk fire performance as silicone-coated versions. Ideal for EV battery fires, gasoline leaks, and other emergencies where traditional extinguishers fall short
- Must-Have Car Safety Essential: Compact enough to fit in your trunk yet expansive (4m × 6m / 13ft × 19.7ft) to fully cover a small car. A critical addition to any emergency car kit. Comes with a sturdy storage bag for quick access
- Cost-Effective & Lightweight Alternative: Without the silicone coating, this blanket offers a more affordable option while maintaining excellent heat resistance and tear strength. Slightly lighter than coated versions for easier handling. Note: Fiberglass fibers may cause skin irritation—gloves are recommended during use
- Versatile Fire Protection: Effective across multiple scenarios: car engines, EV batteries, parking lots, workshops, and industrial environments. A reliable solution for protecting vehicles and large valuable equipment from fire
- Single-Use or Limited Reuse: Designed for 1–2 uses. High-temperature exposure may cause darkening, stiffening, or burn holes—once damaged, the blanket should be replaced. For repeated use and longer service life, consider our double-sided silicone-coated version
That makes the distinction important: physically moving a pack away from the vehicle could separate it from some nearby hazards, but separation alone is not evidence that thermal runaway has stopped. The cited material does not include an independently verified vehicle test showing what happens to the pack after ejection.
What other battery-ejection patents describe—and what they do not prove
Two separate 2025 patent applications describe ejection mechanisms for stationary energy-storage equipment. Neither is evidence that the reported vehicle concept has been built, tested, or adopted, and the available information does not connect either application to the named vehicle collaborators.

- Fast – isolates fire in seconds – Once the car spontaneously combusts, quickly unfold the car fire blanket and cover the car to isolate the oxygen, prevent the fire from further spreading and reduce the damage.
- Effective – extinguishes fire in minutes – It is worth noting that the car fire blanket is only suitable for the initial stage of the fire, before the fire has not spread, the use of car fire blanket to quickly extinguish the fire.
- Simple – can be used by anyone – Automotive fire blankets are quick and easy to use and two adults can do the job, while other firefighting equipment requires more specialized firefighters to use.
- Eco-friendly – no toxic fumes or liquids – There are thousands of car fires around the world every single day. Most of them are extinguished using foam or water. But these methods throw toxic fumes into the air and drain hazardous substances in the groundwater. FLASLD Car Fire Blankets don’t. They isolate smoke immediately without spreading toxic fumes or substances – making them safer for people and the environment.
- Universal – even works on electric cars – Ideal for spaces with a high concentration of cars, such as parking garages, road tunnels, car ferries and car repair shops.Suitable for professional firefighters and other organizations that may have to deal with multiple fires. Blocks and isolate fire in electric vehicles.

What battery-fire studies say about other safety measures
Research on fire suppression illustrates why a complete safety assessment has to look beyond visible flames. A 2018 laboratory study by University of Science and Technology of China researchers reported controlling a battery fire within 5.6 seconds when a Novec 1230 fire-detection pipe was placed directly above the test battery. Batteries outside the protected area could still heat neighboring batteries and propagate thermal runaway. This was a test of a different suppression method, not a battery-ejection system. For the concept to demonstrate a safety benefit, testing would need to show how it detects a developing emergency, what portion of the battery it removes, and whether separation limits heat and fire propagation. It would also need to establish how reliably it operates and what risks may arise from a detached, still-hazardous pack. The available evidence does not provide verified measurements of the pack’s trajectory or post-ejection hazards; these are unanswered engineering questions, not demonstrated failures.
