These are automaker-reported figures assembled by a publication—not a standardized China-only retail ranking—and the labels and market scopes differ.

What the figures do—and do not—compare
The ordering answers which names lead in CarNewsChina’s compilation, but it should not be read as a like-for-like league table of vehicles sold to customers in China. The publication says it compiled automakers’ announced delivery data, while its BYD entry is described as global passenger-car sales. Leapmotor explicitly reports global deliveries. Those labels and scopes are not interchangeable.
There is also a naming distinction for Geely. CarNewsChina assigns 130,479 to Geely Galaxy deliveries, while Geely Auto Group’s release labels 130,479 as NEV sales for the Geely brand. The same release reports 190,868 NEV sales for the broader Geely Auto Group. The brand, sub-brand and group labels should not be treated as synonyms. Geely Auto Group, 2026
Why BYD has two September totals in published reports
CnEVPost reports 463,561 BYD NEV sales for September 2026, rather than CarNewsChina’s 456,713 global passenger-car sales. The sources use different category labels, and the available reporting does not reconcile the definitions behind the totals. CarNewsChina’s BYD number includes both plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles, so it is not a BEV-only count. Comparing these tallies fairly would require matching geography (China or global), sales channel (retail, wholesale or deliveries), vehicle category (all NEVs or BEVs), organizational level (group, brand or sub-brand), and reporting period and update date. The cited source set does not provide a consistent China-only retail table for these three names.
