They entered separate electric-vehicle classes with one truck apiece: the modified Silverado ran one 73-mile lap in EV Open Production, while the R1T ran two laps in EV Production, charging between them. Those different classes, preparations and distances make this an endurance-and-logistics story—not a fair comparison of which truck was faster or better.
Did the Silverado EV and Rivian R1T race each other?
No. The trucks competed in different classes, and each class had only one entrant. The Silverado EV ZR2 concept was in EV Open Production; Nick Paris’s R1T was in EV Production. The 2025 American Off-Road Racing Championship results list Chad Hall’s EV230 first in EV Open Production and Paris’s EV100 first in EV Production, each with one lap recorded in the class results.
TechCrunch’s event report says the R1T completed two laps of the 73-mile course, stopping to charge between them. The Silverado completed one lap. The different lap counts and the organizer’s staged approach to the new EV classes help explain why the results should not be read as a direct contest. Mint organizer Matt Martelli told TechCrunch on March 8, 2025: “When we are shepherding in any new class, we try to ease them into it. We don’t want them to fail. That’s not good for anybody. So we try to manage that by giving them a little bit more each time.”
The Mint 400 is a multi-day event held each March, and its broader event materials describe a 400-mile course. That does not mean these EV entries covered 400 miles: the trucks in this account ran the shorter 73-mile course. See the Mint 400 event site and results archive for the event context.

How were the two trucks prepared?
Silverado EV ZR2: a modified race concept
Chevrolet announced the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept for Hall Racing’s EV Open Production class, with professional race driver Chad Hall behind the wheel. Chevrolet said the concept used roughly 98% GM production parts, a manufacturer description rather than an independent measurement of how close the race truck was to a showroom vehicle.
Chevrolet’s March 5, 2025 release describes a tri-motor setup rated at 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of wheel torque, prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers, more than 13 inches of front and rear wheel travel, and 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 tires. The torque figure is wheel torque, so it should not be compared directly with conventional engine or motor torque ratings.

Rivian R1T: mostly stock, with upgraded tires
TechCrunch described the R1T as largely stock apart from upgraded 35-inch BFGoodrich tires. The same account characterized the Silverado as heavily modified, including suspension changes and Hummer EV-derived components. As a result, the Silverado’s performance is not a proxy for that of a retail Silverado EV, and the two builds were not prepared on equal terms.
The event report also notes a difference in team experience: Hall was a professional race driver, while the Rivian entry was a privateer effort. That is another reason not to attribute any informal pace difference to the vehicles alone.

How did the Silverado EV do at the Mint 400?
TechCrunch reported that the Silverado completed its single lap in about 2 hours 10 minutes, at an estimated average speed of about 34 mph, and crossed the finish with 40% state of charge. Its reported efficiency was 0.6 miles per kWh. These are event-specific reported figures, not the result of a controlled comparison or a standardized vehicle test.
Co-driver Mark Stielow summed up the run by saying, “We just cruised,” and, “No problems at all.” The report describes no mechanical issue during the Silverado’s lap. That is a positive account of this one outing, not proof of long-term durability.

Did the Rivian R1T finish, and how did it charge?
Yes. The R1T completed two 73-mile laps, with a stop at a nearby Electrify America 350 kW charger between them. According to TechCrunch’s report, it reached the charger at 20% state of charge, left for lap two at 90%, and finished that lap at 10%. Its reported efficiency was also 0.6 miles per kWh.
The report describes two suspension-related problems during the run: an air spring failure around race mile 50 and a front damper failure on the second lap. The damper issue cost about 15 minutes. These incidents describe one truck during one race; they do not establish a model-wide reliability pattern.

What the race figures can—and cannot—tell you
| Measure | Silverado EV ZR2 concept | Rivian R1T |
|---|---|---|
| Class and entrants | EV Open Production; one entrant | EV Production; one entrant |
| Race distance reported | One 73-mile lap | Two 73-mile laps, with charging between them |
| Preparation described by TechCrunch | Heavily modified concept; 37-inch tires | Largely stock apart from upgraded 35-inch tires |
| Reported race efficiency | 0.6 miles per kWh | 0.6 miles per kWh |
| End-of-run state of charge reported | 40% after its lap | 10% after its second lap |
| Reported issues | No problems reported during its lap | Air spring failure around mile 50; front damper failure on lap two, costing about 15 minutes |
The matching 0.6 miles-per-kWh figures do not amount to an apples-to-apples efficiency test. The trucks ran different numbers of laps, were prepared differently, and had different race circumstances. State-of-charge readings are likewise snapshots from these particular runs, not a general estimate of how either vehicle will perform on another route.
