What car paced the 2025 Daytona 500?
Chevrolet announced on February 10, 2025, that its 2025 Blazer EV SS would lead the field for the race. The event was the 67th Daytona 500. Alan Ritchson was named honorary pace car driver in Chevrolet’s February 13 announcement: Chevrolet’s announcement.

Chevrolet described the Blazer EV SS as the first electric vehicle to pace the Daytona 500, the first Blazer to pace the race, and the 16th time Chevrolet had led the field to green. NASCAR’s 2025 impact report also identifies it as the first EV to lead the race to the green flag: NASCAR 2025 Impact Report.
Was the Blazer EV SS a production car?
Yes. Chevrolet said the pace vehicle was a production Blazer EV SS, not a performance-modified race car. It received custom graphics and embedded strobe lighting for pace-car duty, but no performance upgrades. The announcement is available from the Chevrolet Newsroom.

How quick and powerful was the pace car?
Chevrolet reported 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque for the 2025 Blazer EV SS. It claimed a 0–60 mph time of 3.4 seconds with Wide Open Watts, a performance mode. Chevrolet qualified that acceleration figure as a closed-course result measured from initial vehicle movement; it is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test of the Daytona pace car.
Chevrolet called it the “quickest SS we’ve ever produced” in a statement by Scott Bell, the company’s vice president. That characterization and the acceleration figure refer to Chevrolet’s claims, not an independently verified comparison.

What was its estimated driving range?
Chevrolet listed an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles for the Blazer EV SS. That estimate is not a guarantee of real-world distance: temperature, terrain, battery condition, vehicle load, and driving use can affect range. See Chevrolet’s 2025 Blazer EV information for model details.

The production SS pace vehicle was distinct from the Blazer EV.R, a separate NASCAR prototype revealed at Daytona later that week. The prototype was built on NASCAR Next Gen chassis and suspension componentry and had a programmable all-wheel-drive system. Chevrolet’s reported prototype figures—more than 1,300 horsepower, three six-phase motors, and a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery—belonged to the EV.R, not the production pace car. Chevrolet described the prototype in its February 13, 2025 announcement.
