It can present a native CCS1 or J1772 connector, or release a NACS connector with the necessary adapter attached and stored in the station.
That does not mean it charges every EV worldwide, and it does not eliminate adapters from the system. It moves the adapter from the driver’s car to the charging station.

What is ChargePoint Omni Port?
Announced on August 8, 2024, Omni Port is a station-integrated connector-management system rather than a new universal plug. ChargePoint designed it for compatible commercial charging equipment during North America’s transition from J1772 and CCS1 toward NACS, also known as SAE J3400 or the Tesla connector.
The basic arrangement is:
- The station has a CCS1 or J1772 cable.
- A compatible CCS1-to-NACS adapter is stored in the station.
- A CCS1 or J1772 vehicle receives the native connector.
- A NACS vehicle receives the cable with the station-held adapter attached.
- When the session ends, the adapter returns to its storage position.
From the driver’s perspective, there is no separate adapter to buy, remember, install or return. Physically, however, an adapter is still part of the charging system. ChargePoint describes the system as an automatic dispenser that matches the connector to the vehicle.

- Fast & Powerful: This EV charger charges 9× faster than a 120V outlet, delivering up to 45 mi/hr., dependent upon your vehicle. It features a J1772 connector for all non-Tesla EVs and requires a 20A or 80A circuit. For Tesla EVs, this will require an adapter.
Which EVs can use it?
| Vehicle connector | Compatibility |
|---|---|
| NACS/J3400 | Yes, on a compatible Omni Port station |
| CCS1 | Yes, on compatible DC Omni Port equipment |
| J1772 | Yes, on compatible AC CP6000 Omni Port equipment |
| CCS2 | Requires equipment configured for CCS2; it is not the standard North American Omni Port pairing |
| CHAdeMO | Requires a separate CHAdeMO-equipped station |
| MCS | Requires applicable MCS hardware and is not the normal passenger-EV use case |
So the accurate claim is that Omni Port addresses CCS1/J1772 and NACS compatibility in North America. It is not one cable that automatically handles every charging standard used around the world.
ChargePoint’s broader Express Plus Power Link 2000 documentation lists CCS1, CCS2, CHAdeMO, NACS and applicable MCS configurations. Those are separate connector options on the platform, not proof that one Omni Port mechanism supports all of them.
AC and DC versions are different
CP6000: commercial Level 2 AC charging
The ChargePoint CP6000 is an AC Level 2 charger aimed at workplaces, dealerships, hotels and other commercial properties. Its connector choices include J1772, NACS and J1772/NACS through Omni Port.

That is substantially different from DC fast charging, even though the station may use the same Omni Port branding.
Express Plus Power Link 2000: commercial DC fast charging
Express Plus Power Link 2000 is a modular DC fast-charging platform. Its specification lists up to 1.2 MW per connector in configuration-dependent installations, with CCS1 and NACS configurations listed at up to 500 amps using the applicable cable and hardware.

Those are equipment ratings, not promises that a passenger EV will charge at 1.2 MW or 500 amps. Actual charging speed depends on the vehicle’s battery voltage, maximum input rate, temperature, state of charge, charging curve, cable rating, power sharing and site capacity. ChargePoint also says certain configurations can charge two vehicles simultaneously at up to 600 kW by one station.
The Power Link 2000 product entry currently shows an end-of-sale date of March 2, 2026, and a last-customer-ship date of June 2, 2026. As of September 2026, anyone specifying new equipment should confirm with ChargePoint whether the exact model or SKU remains orderable or has been replaced.
How drivers use an Omni Port station
The exact prompts vary by station software, operator and payment setup, but a typical session works like this:
- Park with the vehicle’s charge port within cable reach.
- Start the session through the station, ChargePoint app, RFID or NFC/tap-to-charge system, vehicle integration or supported payment method.
- Choose the vehicle or connector type if the station asks you to do so.
- Take the connector released by the station and plug it into the vehicle.
- End the session through the station, app, vehicle or payment workflow.
- Return the cable fully to its holster so the adapter can be stored correctly.
ChargePoint lists app, RFID, NFC/tap, in-vehicle and optional EMV card-payment support for appropriately equipped commercial models. A station can still require a particular account, payment method, network authorization or roaming arrangement.
What Omni Port does not solve
It does not support every connector
A CCS1-to-NACS system does not become CHAdeMO or CCS2 simply because it is marketed as flexible. Owners of older CHAdeMO vehicles, including many Nissan Leaf models, must find a station with a CHAdeMO connector. CCS2 vehicles commonly used outside North America need suitable CCS2 equipment.

It does not make charging faster
The connector mechanism improves compatibility and convenience. It does not increase the vehicle’s charging limit or bypass a battery’s charge curve.
It does not mean every ChargePoint station has Omni Port
Omni Port is a feature of compatible commercial equipment, not a capability present at every ChargePoint location. Check the connector icons in the ChargePoint app, the station display, the vehicle-navigation system or on-site signage before relying on it.
It does not fix cable-reach problems
Parking geometry still matters. ChargePoint lists CP6000 cable lengths of 18 feet or 23 feet, depending on configuration. Other Express Plus installations can use different cable-management arrangements and lengths.
Is a built-in adapter better than carrying one?
| Approach | Advantages | Drawbacks |
|---|---|---|
| Omni Port station | No personal adapter; operator manages compatibility; one port can serve CCS1/J1772 and NACS vehicles | Only available at compatible stations; the adapter and mechanism need maintenance |
| Personal adapter | Works at more compatible locations and stays under the driver’s control | Must be purchased, carried, inspected and used correctly |
| Single-standard station | Simpler hardware and potentially simpler maintenance | Less flexible as the vehicle market changes |
| Separate connectors | Familiar and straightforward | Can require more hardware, space and connector-specific parking |
For drivers, the main benefit is convenience. For site owners, the station-held adapter can reduce confusion and let one parking space serve different vehicles. The trade-off is mechanical complexity: a damaged, stuck or vandalized adapter could take that connector out of service, and the operator—not the driver—is responsible for inspection and replacement.

Who is Omni Port for?
- EV drivers: Look for the Omni Port designation at the individual station. You may still need a personal adapter elsewhere.
- Property owners: Omni Port can make a workplace, hotel or dealership charger useful to both legacy and newer North American EVs.
- Fleet managers: It may be valuable when a fleet contains both CCS1 and NACS vehicles or is transitioning between them. A single-standard fleet may not need the added complexity.
- Charging operators: The system can reduce connector-specific parking assignments, but it adds a mechanical component that must be serviced.
- Homeowners: Omni Port is not a consumer wall-box adapter. It is primarily a feature of commercial ChargePoint infrastructure.
The CP6000 is sold through a commercial sales process, with ChargePoint directing buyers to connect with an expert rather than displaying a universal consumer retail price. The same applies to high-power commercial equipment, whose suitability depends on electrical service, permitting, networking and site design.
The bottom line
ChargePoint Omni Port is a practical answer to North America’s CCS-to-NACS transition. It lets compatible commercial stations serve vehicles with CCS1/J1772 or NACS connectors while keeping the adapter at the station instead of in the driver’s trunk.
But “all EVs” is too broad. Omni Port is not a universal charger for CHAdeMO, CCS2 and every connector worldwide, nor does it guarantee faster charging. It is best understood as a station-side compatibility feature for selected ChargePoint AC and DC commercial charging systems.
