There is no universal “best” carburetor baffle plate gasket: the correct part depends on the carburetor and the exact place the gasket fits. A baffle plate and its gasket may be separate components, so identify your engine, carburetor and assembly before ordering.
Is the baffle plate gasket one part?
Not necessarily. “Baffle plate” and “gasket” can describe separate pieces in the same assembly. In Rochester 2G/2GC/2GV choke-housing instructions, the baffle plate is installed inside the housing; the stat cover and coil assembly follow with a new gasket. Edelbrock’s 1478 electric choke kit instructions likewise list a baffle plate separately from a choke-piston housing seal. These examples show why a search phrase alone cannot establish which part you need.
The name also varies by design. A parts diagram may call the item a carburetor gasket plate, choke housing seal, body gasket, insulator gasket or something else. Use the term and part number shown for your specific assembly rather than assuming these names are interchangeable.
How to identify the correct replacement
- Record the equipment and engine identification. Write down the equipment model and engine model. Briggs & Stratton cautions that many parts look similar and recommends its model-based parts lookup: Briggs & Stratton parts lookup. Troy-Bilt also says the equipment model number is essential for finding factory replacement part numbers: Troy-Bilt parts and model information.
- Identify the carburetor. Note its manufacturer, model and any stamped identification. If the carburetor is not original to the engine or equipment, the equipment model alone may not identify its parts; confirm the carburetor’s own identification as well.
- Pin down the gasket location. Record what the gasket sits between—for example, the choke housing and cover, carburetor and intake, or carburetor and an insulator. A gasket in one location is not automatically the gasket associated with a nearby baffle plate.
- Check the OEM parts diagram and service information. Find the assembly illustration and match the part name and number to the position. Compare the replacement’s outline and hole pattern with the diagram or removed part, then confirm the number with the manufacturer or an authorized parts source.
- Order by verified fit, not appearance. A similar shape or matching bolt holes alone do not establish compatibility. Use the equipment or carburetor model and the confirmed part number when searching.
Useful search terms include carburetor gasket plate and model-specific carburetor plate gasket. Treat them as starting points, not fitment guarantees.

Why “carburetor gasket plate” still needs a model number
Manufacturer listings confirm that carburetor plate gaskets are a real product category, but do not make any one part universal. Troy-Bilt lists part 951-11571 as a “CARBURETOR GASKET PLATE” and says it replaces 751-11571: Troy-Bilt part 951-11571. Briggs & Stratton lists part 690234 as a carburetor plate gasket: Briggs & Stratton part 690234. Neither listing establishes fit for an unidentified carburetor or confirms that the part is a choke-baffle gasket.
Because the application is unspecified, no exact part number, material, dimensions or sealing compound can be recommended here. Confirm the replacement against the parts diagram for your engine and carburetor before buying.

Installation depends on the carburetor design
Do not apply one carburetor’s assembly sequence to another. In the Rochester 2G/2GC/2GV instructions, the choke baffle plate goes inside the choke housing, followed by the stat cover and coil assembly with a new gasket. The instructions say the choke valve should be wide open while installing the plate to avoid damaging a torque-relief spring, and that the choke should move freely after assembly. Those details apply to that Rochester assembly, not to carburetors generally. Consult the service manual for your exact model before disassembly or installation.
The required gasket, installation sequence, torque values and any use of sealant are application-specific. If the correct manual or parts diagram is unavailable, confirm the procedure with the manufacturer or a qualified carburetor technician rather than improvising from a similar-looking assembly.
