Did Canoo file for bankruptcy?
Yes. Canoo’s January 17, 2025 SEC filing says Canoo Inc. and certain subsidiaries filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The case is identified as 25-10094-BLS.
Chapter 7 is a liquidation proceeding. Under the filing, a trustee would take control of debtor assets and liabilities, liquidate assets and administer claims under the Bankruptcy Code. That process is distinct from a reorganization intended to keep a company operating under a court-approved restructuring plan.
What happened to Canoo?
Canoo said its board decided to file after unsuccessful efforts to obtain financing, including discussions with foreign sources of capital and a failure to secure support from the Department of Energy’s Loan Program Office. Those are the company’s stated reasons for its decision. In its January 17, 2025 announcement, Canoo said it would cease operations effective immediately.

Assets and liabilities
TechCrunch reported from Canoo’s bankruptcy filings that the company had more than $164 million in total liabilities and around $126 million in assets. These are reported figures from the filings, not independently audited final totals or a calculation of what any creditor or shareholder will receive.

What is the latest reported status of Canoo’s bankruptcy case?
A third-party case-tracker page identifies the case as 25-10094-BLS in Delaware and lists Judge Brendan Linehan Shannon. The tracker shows an August 18, 2026 order approving a settlement between the trustee and the Harbinger defendants. It also lists an August 28, 2026 notice of withdrawal by Denton County, Texas, as the most recent filing displayed.
That page is a tracker snapshot, not the court’s live docket, and does not establish whether there has been later activity. For the status after August 28, 2026, consult the live court docket. Neither the filing announcement nor the tracker snapshot establishes final creditor distributions, shareholder recovery or the outcome of every dispute in the case.

Is Canoo still operating?
Canoo announced on January 17, 2025 that it would cease operations immediately. The available statements establish that announcement, but do not provide a later independent account of whether any activity continued under the company, its subsidiaries or the bankruptcy estate. A trustee’s work administering a bankruptcy case should not be confused with Canoo resuming vehicle operations.

In a January 24, 2025 SEC filing, Canoo reported that Nasdaq staff had determined its securities would be delisted, citing the Chapter 7 filing, concerns about residual equity interests and continued listing compliance. Canoo said it did not intend to appeal and anticipated that trading in its common stock would be suspended at the opening of business on January 29, 2025.

What happens to Canoo’s assets?
In Chapter 7, the trustee administers debtor assets, liquidates property as appropriate and handles claims under bankruptcy law. The filing describes that process, but does not by itself identify the final sale proceeds, the allowed amounts of claims or the distribution to any particular creditor. The tracker’s settlement entry likewise does not establish the overall resolution of the case or the recovery of shareholders.
