Can Xiaomi’s SU7 Really Outperform Porsche and Offer More Tech Than Tesla?

Xiaomi’s SU7 has impressive published performance and an unusual smart-home ecosystem, but the evidence does not prove that it universally beats Porsche or has more technology than Tesla.

Short answer: Xiaomi’s SU7 is a serious electric-sedan challenger, but the headline overstates what the evidence proves. Its published SU7 Max figures are strong for the car’s launch price, and its HyperOS-based integration with Xiaomi phones, tablets, and smart-home devices is genuinely distinctive. Neither point establishes that the SU7 universally beats Porsche or objectively contains more technology than Tesla.

Xiaomi launched the SU7 in mainland China on March 28, 2024, after unveiling its core automotive technology in December 2023. CEO Lei Jun compared the car with Tesla and Porsche, creating a memorable claim that needs to be separated into performance figures, software features, safety evidence, and actual market availability.

What Xiaomi actually claimed at launch

Xiaomi unveiled the SU7’s core automotive technology in December 2023 and formally launched the electric sedan in mainland China on March 28, 2024. Its launch price range was RMB 215,900 to RMB 299,900. Those prices and specifications are launch-era Chinese-market figures, not U.S. pricing or a promise of future overseas availability.

At the launch, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun positioned the SU7 against two very different targets. He said the car outperformed Tesla in most categories, while also acknowledging that the highest-end SU7 did not yet match Porsche overall. In other words, Xiaomi’s presentation was a competitive pitch built around value, acceleration, software, and ecosystem integration—not an independently verified claim that one sedan defeats every Porsche or Tesla in every meaningful category.

Winado 12V Licensed Mercedes Benz AMG GTR Kids Ride on Electric Car, Black
  • 2 Modes of Operation: There are two ways to operate the 12V electric stroller, which can be operated by the child himself by manipulating the steering wheel and foot pedal. If the child can not drive, the parents can control the direction and speed by remote control
  • 3-Speed & Smooth Start: The remote control provides 3-speed adjustment and manual operation provides 2-speed adjustment to ensure the safety of children, while equipped with a smooth start design to ensure the safety of your kids. The maximum speed can reach 3Mph
  • Realistic Experience: The power wheel car comes with bright headlights and realistic taillights that look like real models, built-in music, voltage display, USB and AUX connectors, volume control, TF card slot and speakers, along with a widened seat and adjustable seat belt design to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for children
  • Rechargeable & Durable: The battery type is 12V, the time required for charging is 8-12 hours, and it can run for 1-2 hours when fully charged, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
  • Age and Weight Capacity: This children's car has a maximum weight capacity of 55Lbs, suitable for children from 3 to 5 years old, with excellent reliability of use

The most accurate summary is this: Xiaomi launched the SU7 as a lower-priced, technology-heavy electric sedan aimed at Tesla on value and ecosystem integration and at Porsche on performance. Its published numbers are impressive, but they do not establish universal superiority.

The SU7 Max has serious performance numbers

The strongest performance case belongs to the launch-era SU7 Max. Xiaomi’s annual-report material lists 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.78 seconds, a top speed of 265 km/h, and up to 800 km of range under China’s CLTC test cycle.

Those are manufacturer-published figures for a particular trim. They should not be generalized to every SU7, and the 800 km figure should not be presented as an EPA or WLTP equivalent. CLTC, EPA, and WLTP use different test procedures and conditions; converting one into another without a tested result would create a misleading number.

SU7 figure Launch-era claim Important qualification
Launch price range RMB 215,900–299,900 Applies to the Chinese-market lineup at launch, not necessarily the SU7 Max alone
0–100 km/h 2.78 seconds SU7 Max manufacturer figure
0–200 km/h 10.67 seconds Xiaomi claim; configuration and test conditions matter
Top speed 265 km/h SU7 Max manufacturer figure
Maximum stated range Up to 800 km CLTC, not EPA or WLTP; trim-dependent
15-minute charging claim 510 km of range added Xiaomi claim; charging conditions and configuration affect the result

Xiaomi’s broader SU7 overview also highlights silicon-carbide components across the lineup and claims that the SU7 Max can add 510 km of range after 15 minutes of charging. Both points help explain why the car attracted attention, but neither should be treated as an independently verified result under a universal test standard.

Does the SU7 really outperform Porsche?

That depends on which Porsche, which SU7 trim, and what outperformance means.

The official Porsche Taycan Turbo GT material lists 0–100 km/h acceleration of 2.2 seconds with the Weissach package and a 305 km/h top speed. Against those figures, the SU7 Max’s published 2.78-second acceleration time and 265 km/h top speed do not support an unqualified claim that it is faster than Porsche’s strongest Taycan benchmark.

Vehicle and specification 0–100 km/h Top speed
Xiaomi SU7 Max 2.78 seconds 265 km/h
Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package 2.2 seconds 305 km/h

This is not a complete vehicle comparison. Acceleration and top speed say little about braking performance, cornering, thermal management, repeated track use, ride quality, steering feel, cabin refinement, durability, dealer support, or the maturity of the service network. The Porsche comparison also involves a very different performance benchmark and ownership proposition; a single specification cannot settle overall vehicle quality.

The fair interpretation is more interesting than the headline. The SU7 offered remarkable published performance for its Chinese-market price, and Xiaomi deliberately used Porsche as a premium-performance reference. But the available figures do not prove that the SU7 universally outperforms Porsche.

What Xiaomi means by more technology than Tesla

The strongest basis for Xiaomi’s technology argument is not one isolated feature. It is the way the SU7 connects the car to Xiaomi’s existing phones, tablets, software, and smart-home products.

  • HyperOS: Xiaomi’s vehicle operating system is intended to connect the car with the company’s wider device ecosystem.
  • Large displays: The SU7 overview lists a 16.1-inch 3K central screen and a 56-inch head-up display.
  • Smart-home integration: Xiaomi says the vehicle can work with more than 1,000 Xiaomi smart-home devices.
  • Phone and tablet integration: The company describes a five-screen linkage concept using the car’s displays and Xiaomi tablets, alongside support for Apple CarPlay.
  • Driver assistance: Xiaomi offers Xiaomi Pilot Pro and Xiaomi Pilot Max options, depending on configuration and market specification.

Xiaomi describes the broader strategy as Human × Car × Home. The idea is that the vehicle should interact with household devices, phones, tablets, and other smart terminals rather than operate as an isolated infotainment system. For someone already invested in Xiaomi’s ecosystem, that may be a meaningful advantage over a conventional automaker’s connected-car interface.

However, more tech is not a standardized automotive measurement. A serious Tesla comparison would need a defined scorecard covering software updates, driver assistance, navigation, charging access, route planning, sensor hardware, phone-app quality, cabin displays, privacy, reliability, and regional feature availability. Xiaomi’s large screen count and smart-home compatibility establish a clear point of differentiation; they do not independently prove that the SU7 is technologically superior to Tesla in every category.

A defensible wording is that Xiaomi could credibly claim more visible device and smart-home integration in selected areas. It could not turn that distinction into a universal, market-independent verdict without comparable testing.

The safety and software reality check

Advanced software claims need to be considered alongside formal testing and corrective actions.

The SU7 completed a C-NCAP evaluation under the organization’s 2024 rules, with the result published on March 25, 2025. That record establishes that a formal Chinese safety evaluation took place. A numerical score or category breakdown should be quoted only from the associated result image or downloadable test data; the summary evidence available here does not provide a readable breakdown to reproduce responsibly.

There was also an official recall dated January 24, 2025 covering 18,410 SU7 vehicles produced between February 6 and August 16, 2024. The Chinese recall notice said a software time-synchronization problem could affect intelligent parking’s detection of static obstacles, increasing the risk of scraping or a collision. Xiaomi’s remedy was a free over-the-air software update, and the notice reported no accidents or injuries associated with the issue.

The recall should be framed proportionately. It does not establish that the entire SU7 platform is unsafe, nor does it erase the car’s technology achievements. It does show why claims about intelligent driving and parking should be paired with evidence about validation, software updates, recall response, and real-world operating history. A feature being software-based can make a rapid fix possible, but it does not remove the need for careful testing before deployment.

Early demand was strong, but orders are not ownership proof

The SU7 generated substantial launch interest. The Associated Press reported that Xiaomi received 50,000 orders in the first 27 minutes after sales opened. That is a useful measure of launch excitement, but an order is not the same as a completed delivery, and neither necessarily predicts long-term reliability or profitability.

Xiaomi separately reported 27,307 SU7-series deliveries in the second quarter of 2024. It said monthly deliveries exceeded 10,000 for two consecutive months and set a 2024 goal of delivering 120,000 SU7-series vehicles. These company-reported figures indicate strong early demand and a rapid production ramp. They do not independently demonstrate long-term durability, customer satisfaction, financial performance, or global competitiveness.

Can someone in the United States buy a Xiaomi SU7?

Not through the normal U.S. new-car market based on the official materials covered here. Xiaomi’s SU7 information lists the car as available for ordering in mainland China and states that it is not for sale outside mainland China.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That limitation changes the practical meaning of the headline for American readers. Chinese-market pricing cannot be carried over to the United States without accounting for import rules, homologation, tariffs, charging compatibility, software localization, warranty coverage, parts, service, and after-sales support. A U.S. reader should not assume that a SU7 seen in a Chinese specification can simply be imported and operated like a Tesla or Porsche sold through a local dealer.

The same qualification applies to technology. Xiaomi’s smart-home functions, driver-assistance features, maps, connectivity, and app services may depend on Chinese-market hardware, software accounts, networks, and regulations. International availability would need to be verified separately for a specific country and date.

For enthusiasts who cannot buy the car

For enthusiasts: For readers who want a physical reminder of Xiaomi’s first EV, search for the Xiaomi SU7 1:18 die-cast model car. It is a scale collectible, not a functioning vehicle accessory; verify the listing, seller, shipping destination, and product description before ordering.

Xiaomi’s official catalog lists a 1:18 die-cast model, making it a more sensible enthusiast recommendation for a China-only vehicle than generic SU7 floor mats or screen protectors. Those accessories can be highly dependent on model year, trim, left-hand-drive configuration, and local availability.

Verdict: an impressive challenger, not a universal Porsche or Tesla killer

The Xiaomi SU7 deserves attention. Its SU7 Max specification combines 2.78-second 0–100 km/h acceleration, a 265 km/h top speed, up to 800 km of CLTC range, rapid-charging claims, and an unusually broad smart-device strategy. Its launch pricing made those figures especially provocative in the Chinese market.

But the evidence supports a narrower conclusion than the headline. The SU7 Max does not beat the published Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach-package figures on acceleration or top speed. Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem, screens, CarPlay support, smart-home control, and Xiaomi Pilot options give it a distinctive technology story, but there is no universal test that proves it has more technology than Tesla. The recall and still-developing operating history are reminders that impressive specifications are only part of the ownership equation.

Xiaomi’s strongest case is value plus ecosystem integration, backed by serious performance. That is already a significant achievement. It does not require—and the available evidence does not justify—the broader claim that Xiaomi has categorically surpassed Porsche and Tesla in every dimension.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Xiaomi SU7 really outperform Porsche?

Not according to the published benchmark figures. The SU7 Max is listed at 2.78 seconds from 0–100 km/h and 265 km/h, while Porsche lists the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package at 2.2 seconds and 305 km/h. The comparison also says nothing by itself about handling, braking, track durability, refinement, or service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can you buy the Xiaomi SU7 in the United States?

The official Xiaomi materials covered here list the SU7 for ordering in mainland China and state that it is not for sale outside mainland China. U.S. buyers should not assume normal local-dealer availability, U.S. warranty support, compatible software, or equivalent charging and service arrangements.

Is the Xiaomi SU7’s 800 km range an EPA range?

No. The SU7 Max’s stated maximum is up to 800 km using China’s CLTC test cycle. That figure should not be converted or presented as an EPA or WLTP range without a corresponding test result.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The SU7 is a credible Chinese-market EV challenger with unusually strong published performance and deep Xiaomi device integration. Xiaomi’s claims are most persuasive as a value-and-technology argument—not as proof that the SU7 universally outperforms Porsche or objectively has more technology than Tesla.
