Tonke says the optional roof is designed for the long ID. Buzz and opens to the side. Check that the proposed vehicle’s wheelbase, model year, trim, roof configuration and seating match the conversion. Tonke ID. Buzz product details and Tonke specifications.
What the “explosive” roof claim establishes
The available Tonke description calls it a side-opening lifting roof; it does not confirm an explosive opening mechanism. A separate US conversion from Titan Vans is described as a double-hinge pop-top with an upper sleeping loft for two adults. Titan lists an 800 lb tent rating and a 3-inch dual-foam mattress as its own product specifications, not independent test results. Folded seats and a mattress
Volkswagen Norway describes a basic setup using folded rear seats and a Multiflex board to help create a level sleeping area. VW gives about 223 cm of cargo length with the rear seats folded and says a 120 cm-wide mattress can just fit when using the full length from the front row to the rear opening. This is a space description, not a dedicated camper conversion or a stated five-person sleeping solution.
VW also cautions that the ID. Buzz is not a camper: it does not provide dedicated blackout screens with mosquito netting, power while parked, or configurable ventilation and heating for stationary use. Volkswagen’s Goodnight package
A Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Poland announcement dated 24 June 2026 describes a Goodnight package with a bed frame, a 2 m × 1.2 m folding mattress, window blackout set, table, two chairs and ventilation grilles. The announcement presents it as a micro-camper for two. It is not a pop-top conversion, and the announcement does not establish availability outside its market; check locally before treating it as orderable. VW Poland announcement.

Check these details before buying
- Vehicle fitment: Ask the converter to confirm model year, wheelbase, trim, panoramic or other glass-roof compatibility, and whether the roof conversion is available for that specific vehicle.
- Seats and belts: Get written confirmation of the finished vehicle’s approved travel-seat count and which seats, belts and child-seat fittings remain usable. A bed count does not determine legal travel capacity.
- Sleeping layout: Confirm the number and dimensions of the beds in the exact build, and whether the lower bench configuration suits the people who will use it.
- Market and delivery: Verify current availability, price and delivery timing directly with the converter or local Volkswagen distributor. The cited configurations are market-specific and may change.
Family use and luggage
Seating and cargo figures vary by market and configuration. Volkswagen Australia’s MY25 brochure lists the Pro SWB as a five-seater and the LWB as a seven-seater. It gives 1,121 litres of luggage capacity behind the second row in the five-seat version, and 1,340 litres behind the second row or with the third row down in the seven-seat version.
