BYD’s SHARK is a plug-in hybrid pickup. At its May 2024 launch in Mexico, BYD claimed a combined range of 840 km under the NEDC test cycle and an electric-only range of 100 km, also under NEDC. Those are manufacturer figures—not a promise of how far every driver will travel in real-world conditions.
What does BYD’s 840 km range claim mean?
The 840 km figure is BYD’s claimed combined range for the SHARK under the NEDC test cycle. “Combined” refers to driving with the plug-in hybrid system, rather than electric-only driving. BYD separately claimed 100 km of electric-only range under NEDC in its May 14, 2024 Mexico launch announcement.
NEDC is the stated test cycle for these launch figures. The 840 km should therefore be read as a cycle-based manufacturer claim, not as an independently verified real-world distance. The official materials cited here do not establish a real-world range measurement.
Is the BYD SHARK a plug-in hybrid?
Yes. BYD described the SHARK as a plug-in hybrid at its Mexico launch. Its electric-only range is a separate figure from its combined range, so the 100 km electric-only claim should not be added to—or confused with—the 840 km combined claim.

Why do other BYD SHARK range figures differ?
BYD’s later materials give different figures for different markets or versions, and use the WLTP test cycle rather than NEDC. They should not be combined into one specification or directly compared as if the test conditions were identical.

The Europe-market figures appear in BYD Media’s 2026 SHARK material. The 670 km WLTP figure appears in BYD’s SHARK 6 brochure. These are not replacements for the Mexico launch figures; the market/version and test cycle differ.

What performance and utility figures does BYD publish?
BYD’s Mexico product page lists more than 430 horsepower, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.7 seconds, and fuel consumption of 7.5 L/100 km. The page also gives a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kg, a payload of 835 kg, and cargo volume of 1,450 L. These are Mexico-market specifications published by BYD, not independent test results. BYD’s Brazil launch release, dated October 25, 2024, states 437 hp of combined output, 65 kgf·m of torque, and 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.7 seconds. Those are Brazil-market figures; they should not be substituted for the Mexico page’s wording. The numbers are in BYD’s Brazil launch announcement.

Where is the BYD SHARK available, and what does it cost?
Availability and pricing depend on the country and date. In an April 16, 2026 announcement, BYD Argentina stated a price of USD 59,990 or the peso equivalent for the SHARK DMO. BYD also said UK sales would come first, followed by selected European markets in the second half of 2026. These announcements do not establish current availability in every country or dealership; check the local BYD site for the latest information. The specifications above are BYD-published figures; they do not by themselves establish how the SHARK ranks against competing pickups.
