The plan uses a torque-based electronic management system to bring eligible motorcycles from different manufacturers and generations into a defined performance window. Around 200bhp is the initial target—not a confirmed Ducati-specific limit.
What BSB announced
BSB’s “Next Generation” technical platform is planned for the 2027 championship. It replaces the existing control ECU with a Mectronik torque-based electronic management system. The aim is to calibrate eligible motorcycles within defined performance parameters, rather than apply a Ducati-specific restriction.
BSB says the initial target is around 200bhp. That figure is a starting target for the platform, not a final measured output or a limit assigned to any manufacturer. Performance is to be managed through torque distribution across the rev range. After racing begins, track data will inform development from an initial balance of power toward a broader balance of overall performance. BSB’s announcement does not publish manufacturer-by-manufacturer settings.
How the new performance controls are intended to work

The new electronics package is intended to control how performance is delivered across the rev range. BSB describes a common performance window for eligible motorcycles, with track data used to refine the balance once the season is underway. The announcement does not provide final calibration values or explain what settings any individual model will receive.

Different treatment by motorcycle generation
BSB expects newer-generation Superbikes to remain substantially closer to standard specification. Established models may be permitted defined components where needed to bring them within the performance window. The announcement does not list which models qualify for either treatment or specify the components that could be allowed.
Rider aids included
The announced package includes inertia-based traction control, anti-wheelie, and launch control. BSB says the electronics package will simplify some areas that currently require engineering resources.

Could the rules hurt Ducati?
It is possible that a general performance-balancing system could affect Ducati, as it could affect any eligible manufacturer. But BSB’s announcement does not mention Ducati, assign it a power or torque limit, or describe a Ducati-specific map or adjustment. It therefore does not establish that Ducati will lose power or be disadvantaged.
Whether the system changes Ducati’s competitive position will depend on the detailed regulations, the motorcycles eligible for the platform, and how calibration develops with track data. Those details are not specified in the announcement, so a manufacturer-specific effect remains unknown.

Why BSB says it is making the change
BSB frames the platform as a response to fewer new 1000cc sports bikes being produced and growing performance differences between motorcycle generations and architectures. It says the lower performance ceiling is intended to extend engine life, improve reliability, and reduce the number of engines teams need during a season.
MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer said: “The objective is to create an environment in which a much broader range of manufacturers can realistically compete, reducing the need for costly development while allowing teams and riders to make the difference.” BSB Series Director Stuart Higgs described the changes as “a major reset for the championship,” aimed at rebuilding competition across manufacturers, teams, and riders.

When the platform starts
The new technical platform is planned for the 2027 BSB season. BSB says it builds on Balance of Performance principles already used in its Supersport Next Generation and Sportbike categories. The announcement does not provide final homologation rules or manufacturer-specific performance parameters.
