The “more adventurous” R 1300 GS is the BMW R 1300 GS Adventure, introduced as a 2025 model in 2024—not a separate, unreleased variant. BMW’s current adventure lineup still lists it, although that does not rule out future models. The specifications below are BMW’s own launch figures, not independent test results.
What BMW introduced—and when
BMW announced the R 1300 GS Adventure in July 2024 as a new 2025 model. BMW’s US release gave a Q4 2024 market-launch window; BMW India recorded its local launch on January 18, 2025. The dates reflect different markets, not a single global on-sale date. BMW’s current adventure-model overview continues to list the R 1300 GS Adventure, but does not establish whether a successor is planned.
BMW described the bike as a substantial redesign of the engine, chassis, bodywork and storage concept compared with its predecessor. That is the manufacturer’s characterization; the cited launch material does not provide independent road or off-road test findings. How the Adventure differs from the standard R 1300 GS
The Adventure is the more touring- and range-oriented choice in BMW’s lineup, while its greater suspension travel is a concrete distinction. Neither model is universally better; the useful choice depends on the kind of riding, carrying capacity and equipment you need. BMW’s US launch release gives these figures:

BMW’s current overview describes the Adventure as having a 30-liter range, but that description should not be treated as interchangeable with the US launch release’s 7.9-gallon figure without checking the market-specific specification for the bike being considered. For exact luggage fitment, check the model year and required mounting hardware.
Engine and key US launch specifications
BMW’s 2024 US launch release lists a 1,300 cc boxer engine producing 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 110 ft-lb of torque at 6,500 rpm, with a 7.9-gallon fuel tank. These are manufacturer specifications for the US release, not independently measured performance results.

Which equipment is optional?
BMW named the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), Riding Assistant and Adaptive Headlight Pro among optional equipment in its US launch material. Availability and fitment depend on market and configuration, so confirm the equipment on the specific motorcycle rather than assuming it is standard. The optional ASA is intended to ease shifting, but BMW’s description is not an independent assessment of how it performs on the road.
Launch prices and current buying context
BMW’s 2024 US launch release listed a starting MSRP of $22,745, plus $695 destination, for the 2025 R 1300 GS Adventure. BMW Group PressClub Canada’s 2024 launch press kit listed a Canada-market starting price of $26,345 CAD. These are historical launch-market figures, not current dealer quotes, and the different currencies and markets make them unsuitable for direct price comparison. Check a local BMW Motorrad retailer for a current price and the exact configuration.

BMW’s cited US release also lists an optional 37-liter aluminum top case and mount. Before buying luggage, verify that the accessory and carrier are compatible with the Adventure’s model year and installed rack.

Christof Lischka, Head of BMW Motorrad Development, called the Adventure’s combination of comfort, ergonomics, weather protection and handling a goal for the model, saying it “has set itself the goal of becoming the benchmark for large adventure motorcycles.” That is BMW’s stated ambition, not an independent verdict or comparative test result.
