BMW’s Hams Hall plant in England builds a V12 exclusively for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, using a bespoke assembly process before sending the engines to Goodwood. But the available figures do not establish that the V12 powers 60% of Rolls-Royce sales, or that it “saved” BMW’s big engines.
What BMW confirms about the Rolls-Royce V12
BMW Group says Hams Hall produces engines for BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce. The Rolls-Royce V12 is a distinct operation: it is made exclusively for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, assembled through a bespoke process by specially trained staff, and delivered to the marque’s Goodwood facility. BMW Group’s 9 February 2026 announcement describes this manufacturing link, but does not assign the engine a share of Rolls-Royce sales.

BMW’s Head of Engine Production, Harald Gottsche, called the V12 “a masterpiece from Hams Hall,” describing the plant as combining technical expertise with production flexibility. The statement celebrates the facility’s work; it does not explain a business decision to preserve BMW’s other large engines.

Does the V12 power 60% of Rolls-Royce sales?
That percentage is not substantiated by the cited BMW material. BMW’s 2025 report gives worldwide deliveries by marque and names its most requested models, but does not disclose what share of vehicles sold or delivered used a V12. It also does not provide a denominator, time period, or calculation for the 60% figure.
#1 Best Overall
In 2025, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars delivered 5,664 vehicles worldwide, compared with 5,712 in 2024, a decline of 0.8%. BMW said Cullinan was the most requested model, followed by Spectre, Ghost and Phantom. The ranking does not establish engine-specific sales: model popularity and V12 share are different measures. What Hams Hall’s production figures do—and don’t—show
For its 25th anniversary, BMW reported that Hams Hall had manufactured more than 7.6 million engines since 2001. The company also said the plant reduced energy use per engine built by 61% since full production began. These are plant-wide figures, not V12 output totals or measurements of the V12’s individual efficiency. BMW Group’s Hams Hall anniversary release

Did the Rolls-Royce V12 save BMW’s big engines?
The documented production arrangement does not prove that causal claim. BMW’s announcement confirms that Hams Hall builds Rolls-Royce’s V12, but it does not say that Rolls-Royce demand rescued, justified, or otherwise saved BMW’s own large engines. BMW’s 2025 chairman’s statement discusses Rolls-Royce sales performance and says Cullinan and Spectre were particularly important to sales; it does not identify a V12-related decision about BMW engines. BMW Group Report 2025: chairman’s statement
The evidence supports a narrower, concrete story: a British BMW Group plant has a dedicated bespoke process for making Rolls-Royce’s V12. It does not support presenting either the 60% sales share or the “saved BMW’s big engines” wording as established fact.
