Why the U.S. M5 Touring announcement mattered
BMW’s April 4, 2024 announcement was a U.S. market milestone, not the debut of the M5 wagon worldwide. BMW traces the Touring lineage to the second-generation E34 M5 Touring, introduced in 1992 with a 3.8-liter inline-six. Power, acceleration and electric range
The launch-version 2025 M5 Touring paired a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with an electric motor in BMW’s M Hybrid plug-in hybrid system. BMW rated the system at 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque and paired it with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. How much room does the M5 Touring offer?
The wagon body’s practical advantage is cargo space. BMW estimated up to 57.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity for the 2025 launch model. BMW describes the Touring as having significantly more cargo space than the M5 Sedan, while both belong to the same high-performance powertrain family. The available figures do not establish a current numerical sedan-versus-wagon cargo comparison, so the sedan’s capacity is not stated here.

Price depends on model year. BMW’s August 15, 2024 U.S. launch release listed the 2025 M5 Touring at a base MSRP of $121,500, plus $1,175 destination and handling. BMW USA’s current listing, observed October 7, 2026, shows a 2027 M5 Touring starting at $125,300. These are separate model-year prices, and the 2025 launch figure is not the current starting price. The $125,300 figure is manufacturer starting MSRP, not a guaranteed dealer transaction price. Taxes, title, license, registration and dealer adjustments may affect the amount paid.
