Neither car can be called the more comfortable rear-seat choice based on the available feature lists alone. BMW’s 7 Series emphasizes a reclining relaxation position, an extending footrest, heated and ventilated seats, massage, and available entertainment. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV emphasizes an executive rear cabin, with package-dependent amenities such as massaging calf rests, folding tables, and heated and cooled cupholders. The better fit depends on the seating position and amenities you want—and the equipment on the specific vehicle.
What the rear seats offer
The manufacturers describe different approaches to rear-seat comfort. BMW highlights a relaxation position and entertainment; Mercedes-Maybach presents an executive lounge with additional hospitality features. These are equipment descriptions, not independent assessments of seat comfort or ride quality.

BMW 7 Series: reclining position and entertainment
BMW USA says the rear seat behind the front passenger can tilt back while that front seat moves forward to create more legroom. The cited page also lists an extending footrest, massage programs, and heated seats with active ventilation. An available 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen and rear-door touchscreens add an entertainment focus. These are manufacturer-advertised features; confirm the model year and equipment on the car you are considering. BMW 7 Series Sedan

Mercedes-Benz USA describes the Executive Rear Seat Package Plus as a four-seat configuration with twin rear seats, massaging calf rests, folding tables, heated and cooled cupholders, and a champagne chiller. The package description does not mean every Maybach EQS SUV has these items, so check the vehicle’s listing and market. 2026 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV

| Comfort factor | BMW 7 Series | Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV |
|---|---|---|
| Relaxation position and leg support | BMW USA describes a reclining rear position behind the front passenger, with that front seat moving forward, plus an extending footrest. BMW USA | The US package highlights twin executive rear seats and massaging calf rests. Mercedes-Benz Germany also describes an electrically extending legrest for the right rear seat; that is a German-market detail, not a universal specification. Mercedes-Benz USA; Mercedes-Benz Germany |
| Seat climate and massage | BMW lists heated seats with active ventilation and massage programs. BMW USA | Mercedes-Benz Germany lists rear-seat climate control, multicontour seats with massage, and four-zone climate control. The page says availability depends on model, configuration, and market. Mercedes-Benz Germany |

What the feature lists cannot tell you
A reclining mechanism, footrest, calf massage, and climate controls can make a cabin more adaptable, but they do not establish how supportive or comfortable a seat will feel to a particular passenger. The cited materials do not provide a comparable test of rear-seat ergonomics, ride quality, or passenger fit, nor a comfort score for either vehicle. They also do not establish how the cars perform for passengers of different heights.
Try the exact vehicles you are considering. Sit in each rear seat with the front seat set for its intended occupant, test the available recline and leg support, and check whether the seat, head restraint, and climate controls suit you. If ride comfort is a priority, drive both on similar roads rather than treating feature lists as a proxy.

Check the exact vehicle and market
Equipment varies by model year, package, and market. BMW presents its cited rear amenities as available features, while Mercedes-Benz explicitly says availability depends on the model, individual configuration, and market. The German-market Maybach equipment details should not be assumed to apply to a US vehicle. Before relying on any feature, confirm it on the specific vehicle’s build information or listing.
