The closest BMW 7 Series alternatives are the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Genesis G90, Audi A8, Audi S8 and Lexus LS. If you want an SUV instead of a full-size sedan, the Genesis GV80 is worth considering—but it is a midsize SUV, not a direct sedan equivalent. What changes with the 2027 BMW 7 Series?
BMW’s April 22, 2026 announcement describes four 2027 launch variants: the all-electric i7 50 xDrive and i7 60 xDrive, plus gasoline-powered 740 and 740 xDrive models. BMW said a plug-in-hybrid 750e xDrive would follow in Q1 2027, with a V8 M Performance model planned later. BMW USA’s current FAQ describes the 2027 range as offering all-electric, plug-in-hybrid and gasoline versions. Announced timing is not the same as local delivery or order availability, so verify status in your region.
BMW says the updated car brings Neue Klasse technology and a redesigned interior with Panoramic iDrive, Panoramic Vision and a passenger screen. It also announced a 31.3-inch Theater Screen that supports Zoom video calls. These are manufacturer-announced features; confirm the U.S. model’s trim and options before assuming any is standard. BMW says global production began in July 2026 at Dingolfing.

Start with the body style and passengers
If you want the 7 Series’ basic format, compare the sedans first. Think about whether rear-seat executive comfort, luggage space or the driving experience matters most to you. An SUV changes seating height, cargo utility and the possibility of a third row; it is not simply a taller version of a full-size sedan.

Match the powertrain to your routine
The 2027 BMW range spans gasoline and battery-electric models, with a plug-in hybrid announced for Q1 2027. Consider whether you can charge at home or work, how often you make long trips and whether you want a gasoline, plug-in-hybrid or electric vehicle. Check that the specific variant you want is actually available to order or buy locally.

Build each car with the equipment you want, then compare the resulting prices alongside destination charges, incentives and local inventory. The G90’s two different listed starting figures—$92,700 from Genesis and $94,245 from Car and Driver—show why a source-page figure should not be treated as a definitive quote. Ask a retailer to confirm the price and configuration.

Is the Genesis GV80 a BMW 7 Series alternative?
It is an option if your priority is SUV utility rather than a direct sedan match. Genesis identifies the GV80 as a midsize luxury SUV; its 2026 page lists a starting MSRP of $57,700. Some configurations include a power-folding third row, while the 2027 page describes up to three rows and seating for up to seven. Check the model year and configuration: the available seating and equipment depend on the version.
The GV80’s listed starting price is not an apples-to-apples comparison with a full-size luxury sedan. Consider it when you want an SUV’s seating position, cargo practicality or extra seats, and compare it with vehicles in the SUV category rather than using its price to rank it against the 7 Series.
