The Bizzarrini GT America 2+2 was a one-off Italian grand-touring prototype with a Chevrolet Corvette V8 rated at about 355 horsepower and seating for four. It was shown at the 1968 Turin Motor Show but never entered production. Broad Arrow offered it as Lot 158 at the Audrain Auction in Newport, Rhode Island, on October 2, 2026, with a $400,000–$500,000 estimate; the result remained listed as awaited on October 3, so that figure is not a confirmed sale price.
What is the Bizzarrini GT America 2+2?
It is a unique prototype conceived as a more accommodating grand tourer than Bizzarrini’s familiar two-seat sports cars. The car was presented at the 1968 Turin Motor Show, was mechanically related to the 5300 GT, and added rear passenger seats. The concept did not proceed to series production. Classic Driver’s October 2, 2026 account describes the four-seat configuration; Broad Arrow’s catalog lists the car for the Newport sale.
What engine and power does it have?
The prototype carries a Chevrolet Corvette 327-cubic-inch (5.4-liter) V8 rated at about 355 horsepower. Broad Arrow’s 2026 catalog and Classic Driver both give that approximate output; it is the engine’s stated rating, not a modern independent dynamometer measurement. Broad Arrow’s Audrain Auction 2026 catalog, page 77 provides the lot description and specifications.

The 2+2 layout was an attempt to broaden the grand-touring formula by making room for rear passengers while retaining the character of a performance-oriented GT. Those rear seats are a defining difference from the more familiar two-seat Bizzarrini sports cars. As a prototype, however, it demonstrates an intended direction rather than a production model offered to customers.
What is known about its history and chassis identity?
The unfinished car was sold in 1970 to collector Mauro Chigiotti, according to the contemporary account. It later spent time in South Africa and Italy, was restored in Livorno in 2008, and arrived in the United States in 2017. Classic Driver’s 2026 account reports the early sale and later U.S. arrival.
One provenance detail needs careful wording: reporting says chassis number IGM0593VT was assigned for administrative identification during the 2008 restoration. It should not be described as an original factory-stamped chassis number. That distinction matters when assessing the car’s documentation and comparing it with factory-completed production cars. Modern Car Collector’s September 29, 2026 report discusses the restoration and identity.

What was the Newport auction estimate, and did it sell?
Broad Arrow cataloged the car as Lot 158 for the Audrain Auction in Newport, Rhode Island, scheduled for October 2, 2026, with an estimate of $400,000–$500,000. An estimate is the auction house’s projected range, not a transaction price. The Glenmarch Bizzarrini results index checked October 3 still marked the result as awaited; the sale status and realized price therefore remain unconfirmed in the available listing. Glenmarch’s Bizzarrini results index showed that status on October 3, 2026; the Broad Arrow catalog gives the estimate.
