| Motorcycle | Published estimate | Details stated in the announcement |
|---|---|---|
| 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville | $10,000–$15,000 (Gooding Christie’s, 2026) | Madison Square Garden gave Joel the custom-painted motorcycle for his 150th sold-out show there. It is accompanied by a matching helmet listing the shows and years he played at the venue. |
| 1982 Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica | $15,000–$25,000 (Gooding Christie’s, 2026) | The model was marketed to commemorate the motorcycle Mike Hailwood rode to his 1978 Isle of Man comeback victory. |
| Restored 1975 Ducati 750 Sport | $25,000–$35,000 (Gooding Christie’s, 2026) | The announcement identifies it as restored; it does not give further condition details in the information summarized here. |
The sale is announced as more than 70 lots, spanning makers including Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Triumph, Honda and Kawasaki. The auction house has not published condition details for every motorcycle in its announcement, so the featured descriptions should not be taken as a condition report for the full offering. [s001]
What does “without reserve” mean here?
Gooding Christie’s says the collection will be presented entirely without reserve. That means the auction has no undisclosed minimum price that must be met for a lot to sell. It does not establish what any motorcycle will bring: the listed estimates are the auction house’s guidance, and realized prices will depend on bidding. [s001]
Rank #2
- 2014 Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 Motorcycle Model 1/12 by Maisto 32326
Is Billy Joel selling his entire collection?
No. Newsday reports that Joel is keeping some of his favorite motorcycles, so the announced sale is not the disposal of his entire collection. Gooding Christie’s specialist Angus Dykman characterized Joel as a rider rather than a trophy collector, saying he kept bikes he used. Dykman described the collection’s common thread as motorcycles that “looked old but worked like new”; that is his view of the collection, not a published specification for each lot. [s002]
Where are the proceeds going?
Gooding Christie’s says Joel intends to use proceeds to support The Joel Foundation, which it describes as supporting nonprofit partners in music education, public and women’s health, humanitarian causes and the environment. The announcement does not specify a donation amount or percentage. [s001]
