Its defining benefit was that the bed could stay deployed while the van’s seating area remained usable; the trade-off was reduced cabin and cargo space. The detailed specifications and prices available are historical, chiefly from 2015, and Bett Mobil’s current sales and service status could not be verified.
How the Bett Mobil system worked
The 2015 New Atlas account describes Bett Mobil as a camper-in-a-box designed around the VW Multivan’s floor rails. A bedroom pod stowed at the rear near the tailgate, while bed and storage components, plus optional kitchen and washroom modules, attached to the rails with screw-in fittings. The modules were intended to be rearranged or removed so the van could return to people-mover use; Bett Mobil said this conversion took about an hour. A historical German overview describes the modules as a way to turn a VW T5 into a camping vehicle, attaching to the seat-bench rails in Multivan or California models. It traces the first bed-module idea to Rolf Hänle in 2015. New Atlas separately reports that Rolf and his son David had designed their camper in 2009; that date concerns their design work and should not be read as the commercial product’s launch date. What the slide-out bed offered
The rear pod slid out and unfolded: its sides and rear wall opened, fold-out legs supported the extended portion, and the tailgate served as a roof. New Atlas reported an interior sleeping area of 1,360 × 2,000 mm (53.5 × 78.7 inches), with an opening rear window that provided a skylight effect. The layout’s practical distinction was that the sleeping surface did not need to replace a seat bed each night: the report says the seated living area could remain available while the bed was in use. That convenience came at a space cost. In the standard configuration, the bed pod and cabinet occupied room that otherwise served seating and cargo needs. Kitchen, washroom and roof options
The cooking module was reported to include a canister stove and storage for cookware and utensils. The wash module was described as having a sink, a 20-litre fresh-water tank, a 10-litre waste-water tank, a 50-litre compressor refrigerator and room for a camping toilet. An optional outdoor kitchen moved cooking outside the cabin; New Atlas said this arrangement allowed up to four seats. New Atlas, January 2015
Two roof arrangements were mentioned: a high Polyroof with integrated storage cabinets, or a pop-up roof with a built-in bed. The report said the hardware was designed around the Multivan and could be adapted, with modifications, to Comfortline, Highline, Pan Americana and California Beach versions. This is historical fitment information, not confirmation that a particular van or generation will accept the system.

New Atlas said Bett Mobil sold modules directly rather than complete vans, performed the original installation, and designed the modules for subsequent removal and reinstallation by the owner. The sources available here do not establish whether the company currently trades, sells parts, or supports existing owners.
Is Bett Mobil still available?
Current Bett Mobil availability could not be verified. The detailed product account dates to 2015, and the historical price listings should not be used to estimate a present-day purchase or installation cost. Anyone considering a used system should confirm the seller’s provenance, completeness, installation requirements and fit with the exact vehicle before buying.
