Toyota’s 2025 passenger-car lineup covers very different needs: efficient hybrids, affordable sports cars, high-performance hatchbacks, premium-leaning sedans, and even a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. The 2025 Camry is the best choice for most buyers, but the Prius, Corolla Hybrid, GR86, GR Corolla, Crown, GR Supra, and Mirai each win a narrower category.

This ranking covers Toyota cars sold in the U.S. for the 2025 model year. SUVs, crossovers, and trucks—including the RAV4, Corolla Cross, Crown Signia, and 4Runner—are excluded.

1. 2025 Toyota Camry: best overall

The Camry is the strongest all-around Toyota car because it combines a roomy midsize-sedan cabin with standard hybrid power, strong fuel economy, available all-wheel drive, and a wide trim range. For 2025, Toyota redesigned the Camry and removed the conventional gas-only powertrain: every U.S.-market Camry is now a hybrid.

  • Starting MSRP: $28,700 for the LE
  • Fuel economy: Up to 53 city/50 highway mpg with front-wheel drive
  • Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive standard; all-wheel drive available
  • Safety: IIHS Top Safety Pick+

The Camry LE is the best trim for most buyers. It is the least expensive version and has the highest EPA fuel-economy rating. AWD adds traction for buyers who regularly deal with snow, although it reduces efficiency somewhat.

The major drawback is the loss of choice. Previous Camrys offered a gas engine for buyers who wanted a lower upfront price or a more familiar powertrain. The 2025 model’s hybrid-only lineup is more efficient, but there is no non-hybrid alternative. Toyota’s original launch announcement cited a $28,400 starting price; its current retail listing shows $28,700, so the newer figure is the one to use when comparing current prices.

2. 2025 Toyota Prius: best for fuel economy

The Prius remains Toyota’s fuel-economy leader, but the current generation is no longer defined solely by economy. Its styling is sharper, acceleration is stronger than in earlier generations, and the hatchback body gives it useful cargo flexibility. Five-passenger seating and available AWD make it more versatile than its low fuel consumption might suggest.

  • Starting MSRP: $28,350 for the LE
  • Fuel economy: Up to 57 city/56 highway mpg with front-wheel drive
  • AWD fuel economy: 53 city/54 highway mpg for the LE AWD
  • Hybrid-battery coverage: 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, for 2020-and-newer Toyota models

Choose the Prius LE if operating cost is the priority. The XLE adds comfort and technology, including access to a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen on listed 2025 grades, but it costs more and is not as focused on maximum efficiency.

One important distinction: the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is a separate model, not simply another regular Prius trim. Its estimated electric-only range is approximately 40–45 miles depending on configuration, after which it operates as a plug-in hybrid.

3. 2025 Toyota GR86: best affordable sports car

The GR86 delivers more traditional sports-car ingredients than any other Toyota near its price: rear-wheel drive, a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four, a low-slung coupe body, and a standard six-speed manual transmission. Its 228 horsepower is enough to make the car entertaining without pushing it into an unaffordable performance category.

Toyota retuned the GR86’s suspension and steering for 2025, improved throttle response, and added the limited-production Hakone Edition. The GR86 and mechanically related Subaru BRZ also earned a place on Car and Driver’s 2025 10Best list.

The rear seats should not be treated as adult seating. They are extremely cramped and are more useful for bags, jackets, or occasional short trips. Cabin noise and a sometimes-jittery ride are additional compromises. The price also needs careful comparison: Edmunds lists the base car at about $30,400 including destination, while other references show a range beginning around $31,695 before or with different fee assumptions.

4. 2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid: best budget hybrid

The Corolla Hybrid is the most sensible entry point into Toyota’s hybrid range. It costs substantially less than the Camry, uses less fuel than most compact sedans, and can be ordered with AWD. It is not as roomy or refined as the Camry, but it handles everyday commuting at a much lower purchase price.

  • Starting MSRP: $23,825 for the Hybrid LE
  • Fuel economy: Up to 53 city/46 highway mpg
  • AWD fuel economy: 51 city/44 highway mpg for the Hybrid LE AWD
  • Standard technology: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto compatibility

The Hybrid LE is the best value. The SE brings a sportier appearance and can appeal to buyers who dislike the LE’s conservative styling, but it gives up some fuel economy. The XLE adds equipment and comfort but reduces the price advantage that makes the Corolla Hybrid so appealing.

Do not mix 2026 Corolla Hybrid pricing or equipment into a 2025 comparison. Toyota made equipment and pricing changes for 2026, including digital-gauge updates.

5. 2025 Toyota GR Corolla: best high-performance hatchback

The GR Corolla is the practical performance choice in Toyota’s lineup. It has four doors, usable rear seats, standard all-wheel drive, and a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine. It is much more versatile than a two-seat sports car while still offering serious performance.

  • Tire Foam: This car wash cleaning kit includes tire foam that floats away dirt without scrubbing and nourishes tires while working as a tire protectant
  • Engine: Turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder
  • Torque: 295 lb-ft
  • Transmissions: Six-speed manual or new eight-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission
  • Fuel economy: 21 city/28 highway mpg
  • Current listed Core price: $39,160

The automatic transmission is the major 2025 change. Buyers who want maximum involvement can still choose the manual, while the new automatic is better suited to commuting or drivers who want fast shifts without clutch work. Toyota also added launch control, revised suspension tuning, updated front-bumper cooling provisions, and a Premium Plus grade.

The GR Corolla is expensive for a Corolla and has a firm ride. Its 21/28-mpg rating is also dramatically worse than the ordinary Corolla Hybrid. Buy it because you want all-weather performance and speed—not because it is an economical compact hatchback.

6. 2025 Toyota Crown: best premium hybrid alternative

The Crown is a raised sedan with standard AWD and a more upscale mission than the Camry. Its unusual shape gives it more visual presence and a higher seating position without turning it into a conventional SUV. It is a good fit for buyers who want something distinctive but still prefer a Toyota hybrid powertrain.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Starting MSRP: $41,440 for the XLE
  • Powertrain: Hybrid on every trim
  • Drivetrain: All-wheel drive standard
  • Top powertrain: Hybrid Max with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 340 combined horsepower
  • Platinum acceleration: Approximately six seconds from 0 to 60 mph

The Crown is quieter and more unusual than the Camry, but the base powertrain is less compelling when judged against the price. It also does not deliver the materials, brand prestige, or driving polish of a dedicated luxury sedan. The Crown makes sense when its distinctive design and raised-sedan format matter more than maximum value.

7. 2025 Toyota GR Supra: best Toyota sports car

The GR Supra is Toyota’s performance flagship among passenger cars. The 3.0 model uses a turbocharged inline-six producing 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic is available, while 3.0 models can also be ordered with a six-speed manual.

  • Starting MSRP: $56,250 for the 3.0
  • Power: 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque
  • Automatic 0–60 mph: 3.9 seconds according to Toyota
  • Fuel economy: 23 city/31 highway mpg automatic; 19 city/27 highway mpg manual

The Supra is faster and more capable on a long road trip than the GR86, and its turbocharged engine gives it substantially more performance. However, it has only two seats, requires premium fuel, and costs far more than Toyota’s smaller sports car. It is the performance winner, not the value winner.

8. 2025 Toyota Mirai: best only where hydrogen is convenient

The Mirai is a hydrogen fuel-cell electric sedan. It generates electricity onboard using hydrogen and emits water vapor, but it is not a battery-electric vehicle and it is not a conventional hybrid.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Available grade: XLE only for 2025
  • Starting MSRP: $51,795
  • EPA-estimated range: Up to 402 miles

The Mirai can be appealing to a buyer who lives near dependable hydrogen stations and wants electric-style driving without charging from a plug. For everyone else, the fueling network is the decisive limitation. Hydrogen availability is geographically restricted, so the Mirai ranks below Toyota’s hybrid sedans and hatchbacks as a general recommendation. Its 402-mile range is useful only if the car can be refueled along the owner’s normal routes.

What changed in the 2025 Toyota car lineup?

  2. The GR Corolla gained an automatic. The new eight-speed Direct Automatic Transmission joins the six-speed manual.
  3. The GR Corolla received more torque. Toyota increased output to 295 lb-ft and added chassis, cooling, and launch-control updates.
  4. The GR86 received tuning changes. Toyota revised the suspension and steering and improved throttle response.
  5. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid remains separate. Its electric range and charging capability should not be confused with the regular Prius lineup.
