Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf you need an 8-inch subwoofer for a depth-limited car installation, start with the space available and the kind of product you want: a bare driver or a driver already mounted in an enclosure. The KICKER CompRT 48CWRT82 and Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD2-8 are shallow-mount drivers with published fitment and enclosure specifications; the KICKER TCompRT8 is a separate loaded-box option. Those specifications support a shortlist, not a universal sound-quality winner.
Which shallow-mount 8-inch subwoofer should you consider?
These manufacturer-listed options suit different installation needs. The KICKER and Rockford Fosgate models are bare drivers, so you must provide an enclosure. The TCompRT8 includes a box, which changes the dimensions you need to check.
| Option | Product type | Published fitment dimensions | Power and impedance | Enclosure information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KICKER CompRT 48CWRT82 | Bare 8-inch driver | 2-11/16-inch mounting depth; 7-inch mounting diameter | Dual 2-ohm voice coils; KICKER recommends 300 watts RMS | Sealed: 0.2–1.0 cubic feet; vented: 0.8–1.2 cubic feet. KICKER says it works best in a sealed enclosure. |
| Rockford Fosgate Punch P3SD2-8 | Bare 8-inch driver | 2.66-inch mounting depth; 7.13-inch cutout diameter | Dual 2-ohm voice coils; 150 watts RMS, 300 watts maximum | Sealed: 0.25 cubic feet; vented: 0.75 cubic feet |
| KICKER TCompRT8 | Loaded 8-inch enclosure | 4-3/8-inch top depth, 5-3/8-inch bottom depth, 16-1/8-inch height, 9-inch width | Single 2-ohm terminal; KICKER recommends 300 watts | Enclosure supplied; check all exterior dimensions against the installation space. |
All figures in the table are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent performance measurements. Rockford’s linked product listing is regional; its displayed availability or pricing may not apply in your market. KICKER says specifications can change, and its TCompRT8 page refers to a 2013 enclosure series, so confirm the current product revision and availability.
Choose the KICKER CompRT 48CWRT82 for a documented compact bare-driver option
Its listed mounting depth is 2-11/16 inches, and KICKER recommends 300 watts RMS. That makes it a candidate when the available space and amplifier system suit those figures. The product page also lists 81.8 dB sensitivity at 1 W/1 m and describes UV-resistant cone and surround materials for all-weather use; those material descriptions are manufacturer claims, not independent durability tests.

Consider the Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 when its power and box requirements fit
Rockford lists 150 watts RMS handling, a 2.66-inch mounting depth and a 7.13-inch cutout. Its stated enclosure volumes are 0.25 cubic feet sealed or 0.75 cubic feet vented. The listing gives 82 dB sensitivity. Do not treat the listed 300-watt maximum as its RMS rating.
Choose the TCompRT8 only if the complete enclosure fits
This option packages an 8-inch CompRT driver in a box with a single 2-ohm terminal. Its top and bottom depths differ, so measuring only one point can give a misleading fit check. A shallow driver does not make the supplied enclosure shallow enough for every under-seat or behind-the-bench space.

How to check fit before buying
Measure the actual mounting location and compare it with the product dimensions. Driver depth alone does not account for every obstruction or installation need.
- Measure the available mounting depth at the tightest point, including clearance for the magnet, basket and terminals.
- For a bare driver, compare the required cutout or mounting diameter with the panel opening and confirm there is room for the frame and grille.
- For a loaded box, check its full width, height, top depth and bottom depth against the available space, including seat movement and access for installation.
- Check that the subwoofer, grille and enclosure will not interfere with seat travel, passengers or nearby components.
- Use the enclosure volume specified for the driver and enclosure type you plan to build or buy; do not assume the sealed and vented recommendations are interchangeable.
The published dimensions are product specifications, not a vehicle-specific fit guarantee. The car’s available space and the installation layout determine compatibility.

Match amplifier power, wiring and final impedance
The two bare drivers have dual 2-ohm voice coils. The KICKER TCompRT8 has a single 2-ohm terminal. Before choosing an amplifier or wiring plan, confirm the final load the subwoofer will present and that the amplifier is stable at that impedance. The product specifications do not establish a particular amplifier pairing.
Use RMS figures when matching continuous amplifier output to the driver: KICKER recommends 300 watts RMS for the 48CWRT82, while Rockford lists 150 watts RMS handling for the P3SD2-8. Peak or maximum figures are not substitutes for those RMS values. Follow the manufacturer’s wiring and enclosure guidance for the exact model and revision.

What these specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Mounting depth, cutout, coil configuration, power ratings and enclosure recommendations help determine whether a product may suit an installation. They do not establish which subwoofer sounds better, plays louder in a particular car, lasts longer or offers better value. No controlled side-by-side comparison or vehicle-specific fit test is established by the cited product information, so treat the shortlist as a fit-and-system comparison rather than a sound ranking.
