1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor many 1/10-scale brushed Traxxas vehicles, the best-documented brushless upgrade is the Velineon VXL-3s system with a Velineon 3500 motor—not a motor by itself. But there is no universal Traxxas upgrade: the Hoss uses a larger 540XL, while the 1200XL is listed for select large vehicles. Match the exact model and version to Traxxas parts documentation before buying, then choose gearing and battery for how and where you drive.
Which Traxxas motor should you choose?
| Option | Best fit or use | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Velineon VXL-3s system with Velineon 3500 | A documented brushless conversion path for many 1/10-scale brushed Traxxas platforms, including a Rustler-specific upgrade guide. | Exact vehicle version, system fit, ESC, mounting parts, battery limits, and gearing. The Rustler guide’s parts are specific to its example setup. Traxxas speed-up guide; Rustler upgrade guide |
| Velineon 540XL | Hoss 4X4 VXL, where Traxxas identifies it as the model’s larger motor for torque and big-tire performance. | Do not assume it drops into other 1/10 chassis. Traxxas Hoss overview |
| Velineon 1200XL | Named larger platforms: Pro Scale Sand Car, X-Maxx, X-Maxx Ultimate, XRT, and XRT Ultimate. | The listing establishes these applications, not general compatibility beyond them. Traxxas 1200XL listing |
| Velineon 2200 kV, part 3481 | Traxxas describes it as a high-torque, high-horsepower motor. | The product listing alone does not establish chassis fit; confirm application documentation before choosing it. Traxxas 2200 kV listing |
Traxxas’s parts listing for the Rustler 4X4 Ultimate identifies 3350R as the VXL-3s system and includes the Velineon 3500 motor. A parts listing is useful evidence, but it does not substitute for checking the exact model number and current instructions. Traxxas 3350R parts listing
Why the VXL-3s is a system upgrade
A brushed-to-brushless conversion involves more than swapping the motor. Traxxas describes Velineon as a brushless motor-and-electronic-speed-control system and provides conversion instructions for Titan/XL-5 vehicles. The Rustler upgrade guide lists system 3350R alongside a 4000 mAh 3-cell LiPo (2849X), 28-tooth pinion (4728), 83-tooth spur (4683), fixed gear adapters (3790), and tool kit (3415). Those are parts for that guide’s Rustler high-speed example—not universal fitment or gearing advice for every Traxxas model. Traxxas speed-up guide; Rustler conversion guide
Traxxas describes the VXL-3s as accepting 2-cell (7.4 V) and 3-cell (11.1 V) LiPo configurations. That does not mean every chassis can accept any pack: verify the vehicle’s ESC requirements and physical battery-space limits in its manual. The Rustler example’s use of 3S is specific to that setup. How the 540XL and 1200XL differ from a 3500
Hoss 4X4 VXL: 540XL
Traxxas says the Hoss 4X4 VXL’s 540XL is 25% larger than the Velineon 3500 used in Bandit, Slash, Stampede, and Rustler VXL models. The Hoss article specifies 2400 kV and describes the motor as suited to torque and larger tires; it is Hoss-specific guidance, not evidence of a universal drop-in upgrade. Traxxas advertises 60+ mph for the Hoss with a 3-cell battery and optional speed gearing. That is a manufacturer claim tied to the stated setup, not an independent test result. Traxxas Hoss overview
Large platforms: 1200XL
Traxxas lists the Velineon 1200XL as part 3491 and a replacement motor for the Pro Scale Sand Car, X-Maxx, X-Maxx Ultimate, XRT, and XRT Ultimate. Its listing calls it a Big Block motor; it does not establish compatibility with other vehicles. Traxxas 1200XL listing

What gearing does to speed, load, and heat
A larger pinion or smaller spur can raise top speed; a smaller pinion or larger spur favors torque and acceleration at the expense of top speed. Traxxas warns that speed gearing makes the motor work harder and heat up faster, and recommends high-speed gearing for hard, flat surfaces. Stock gearing is the safer all-around baseline unless your driving conditions and temperature checks support a change. Traxxas gearing guide
Traxxas support explains that a Rustler VXL using high-speed gearing with 3S while jumping, doing wheelies, or running through grass experiences more load and heat in its electronics. That example illustrates why a gearing combination that works on pavement may be unsuitable for stop-start driving or grass. Change one setup variable at a time and check motor and ESC temperatures during your actual use. Traxxas Rustler VXL gearing support

How to verify a replacement or upgrade before ordering
- Identify the exact vehicle. Record its model name, version, and model number; variants that share a name may not share motor, ESC, or mounting requirements.
- Check manufacturer fitment. Use the vehicle’s current parts list and application documentation to confirm the motor or complete system is listed for that chassis. A motor’s product page alone may not prove fit.
- Confirm the full installation. Check whether the choice includes the ESC, motor mount or adapters, wiring/connectors, and any required tools. For conversions, follow the model-specific instructions rather than assuming a motor-only swap.
- Match battery and gearing to the vehicle. Confirm supported battery voltage, physical pack fit, and model-specific gearing guidance. Do not transfer the Rustler guide’s parts list to another model without documentation.
- Test for heat under your conditions. Start from the documented gearing and make one change at a time. Check temperatures after running on the surface and with the driving style you intend to use.
How to interpret advertised top speeds
Speed figures depend on the whole vehicle setup, not just the motor. Traxxas advertised 70+ mph for a Rustler example using Velineon power, a 3-cell LiPo, and the guide’s specified gears; its 60+ mph Hoss figure is tied to a 3-cell battery and optional speed gearing. These are manufacturer-published claims, not independent or standardized comparisons across vehicles. Rustler upgrade guide; Hoss overview

A Traxxas-attributed announcement dated June 19, 2026 describes Velineon V3200 as a brushless motor intended for extreme 3-cell LiPo performance in 1/10-scale vehicles, with a 5 mm output shaft and internal cooling. It advertises 60+ mph, but the announcement does not establish aftermarket availability or compatibility with existing brushed vehicles. Treat it as a newly announced system rather than a confirmed conversion choice unless current application guidance identifies your model. Traxxas announcement
