Performance engine mounts can control drivetrain movement and, in some applications, help reduce wheel hop—but a firmer mount can also send more vibration and noise into the cabin. There is no universal best mount or proven stability gain for every car. Choose based on exact vehicle and transmission fitment, how you drive, and how much added noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) you will accept.
What performance engine mounts change
Engine mounts support the engine and help limit its movement while damping vibration and structure-borne noise transferred to the vehicle body. ZF Aftermarket describes mounts as the damping connection between the engine and transmission and the chassis, securing those units during driving. Mount design is therefore a balance: controlling movement matters, but so does isolating vibration from the cabin.
A stiffer mount or reinforcement may make drivetrain response feel more direct and can reduce movement associated with wheel hop. The trade-off is that more vibration and noise may reach the body. Whether that compromise feels worthwhile depends on the car and its use; stiffness by itself is not a complete measure of mount quality.
How to choose: match the mount to the car and use
- Confirm fitment first. Check the exact year, model, engine, and transmission against the manufacturer’s application information. Do not assume a part fits every version of a model.
- Decide where you drive. For a daily-driven street car, cabin comfort may matter more than maximum movement control. Spirited driving or competition can make a firmer setup more acceptable, especially when NVH is a lower priority.
- Set your NVH tolerance. Consider whether additional cabin vibration and noise are acceptable. An insert that reinforces an existing mount is still capable of changing what reaches the cabin.
- Compare the specific application, not just the material or brand. Look for manufacturer information about intended use, construction, and compatibility. The available sources do not provide controlled, comparable tests that support a cross-brand ranking.
What the available options illustrate
PERRIN polyurethane rear motor mount insert
PERRIN says its insert reinforces the OEM rear mount to control drivetrain movement on and off throttle and is intended to reduce wheel hop. The company also warns that the insert may increase NVH. Its cited product listing excludes CVT transmissions, so buyers should verify compatibility for the exact vehicle rather than generalizing from a model name.

Powerflex polyurethane mounts and reinforcements
Powerflex describes application-specific polyurethane engine and drivetrain mounts, with select parts offered in a stiffer Black Series for track and autocross use where NVH is less important. This describes a product range, not proof that a particular part suits every car or produces a measured performance improvement.
Vibra-Technics road and competition mounts
Vibra-Technics distinguishes road and competition mount choices in its manufacturer FAQ, discussing stiffness, vibration isolation, and handling. Treat that guidance as the company’s description of its categories, not independent comparative testing. Confirm the specific application and intended use before choosing.

Why “more stable” is not a universal result
Engine-to-chassis vibration transfer affects ride and noise, and a mount operates as part of the vehicle’s broader vibration system. An SAE technical paper published in 1994 notes that optimizing a mount in isolation can limit potential gains because the mounting system should be considered within that whole system. A firmer mount may alter drivetrain movement, but the cited evidence does not establish a universal handling or vehicle-stability improvement for aftermarket mounts.
ZF also describes hydraulic and electronically switchable mounts whose damping characteristics can vary with operating conditions. That is another reason not to reduce mount quality to a simple soft-versus-stiff ranking.
