For U.S. shoppers considering new 2026 vehicles, current manufacturer listings put several sedans, SUVs, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and EVs between $35,000 and $45,000 in starting MSRP. The strongest shortlist depends on the body style and powertrain you want—and the exact trim: these advertised starting prices are not out-the-door prices. The figures below help identify candidates, but do not establish which is best for reliability, safety, real-world efficiency or overall ownership cost.
2026 cars and SUVs with starting MSRPs from $35,000 to $45,000
This is a U.S. new-vehicle guide using current 2026 manufacturer-published starting MSRPs. It is a selection, not a complete list of every eligible vehicle. Starting prices may represent a model or trim entry point; check the configuration and local quote before treating a vehicle as within budget.

Which type of vehicle fits your needs?
Hybrid sedans
The Accord Hybrid and Sonata Limited Hybrid are the sedan choices here for shoppers who want a hybrid powertrain. Honda lists three Accord Hybrid trims in this band: EX-L at $35,095, Sport-L at $35,495 and Touring at $39,495. Its EX-L listing highlights leather-trimmed seating and parking sensors; the Touring listing highlights Google built-in and a Bose premium sound system. Hyundai lists the Sonata Limited Hybrid at $38,100 and provides EPA-estimated mileage on its model page. Compare the exact trim equipment and current mileage figures rather than assuming all versions of a model are alike.
Gasoline sedan
The 2026 Sonata N Line starts at $35,900 according to Hyundai. It is a different proposition from the hybrid: Hyundai describes a 290-hp turbocharged gas configuration. Choose between them based on the powertrain and equipment you want, not just the shared Sonata name.

#1 Best Overall
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUVs
Honda lists the CR-V Hybrid at $35,630, while Ford lists the Escape Plug-In Hybrid at $35,400. A conventional hybrid does not need to be plugged in; a plug-in hybrid has a rechargeable battery and can be charged externally. The Ford Escape Hybrid without plug-in capability is a separate variant listed at $33,890, below this guide’s price band. Verify that a dealer quote names the powertrain you intend to buy.
Electric vehicles
For a battery-electric SUV, Honda lists the Prologue at $39,900 and Ford lists the Mustang Mach-E at $37,795. Honda’s vehicle page gives the Prologue an EPA-estimated range of 308 miles. That figure is a manufacturer listing, not a promise of range in every driving condition; compare the current trim-specific EPA information and charging arrangements before choosing an EV.
Rank #2
Larger SUVs
Honda’s listed starting MSRPs put the Pilot at $42,395 and Passport at $44,950. The Passport’s starting figure leaves little room below a $45,000 MSRP ceiling, and neither starting MSRP tells you what a locally equipped vehicle will cost. Consider passenger and cargo needs alongside the final written quote.
How to decide which one is right for you
These models cover different vehicle types and drivetrains, so first eliminate options that do not match your use. Then compare the actual trim and purchase price, rather than treating the lowest figure on a model page as the cost of every version.
- Choose the body style. Decide whether a sedan or SUV better suits your passenger and cargo needs.
- Choose the powertrain. Narrow the list to gasoline, conventional hybrid, plug-in hybrid or battery-electric vehicles. If considering a plug-in or EV, account for whether charging is practical for you.
- Check the exact trim. Confirm that the quoted vehicle is the trim and drivetrain named here. Equipment and price can change by trim, and related variants can sit on opposite sides of the band.
- Compare included features you care about. Use manufacturer trim information to check equipment such as the Accord EX-L’s listed leather-trimmed seating and parking sensors or Touring’s Google built-in and Bose system.
- Get a written local price. Ask the dealer to itemize destination or freight, accessories, dealer-installed equipment, taxes, registration and fees before deciding whether the vehicle fits your actual ceiling.
Why a $35,000–$45,000 MSRP is not the final price
Starting MSRP is a manufacturer-published vehicle price, not an out-the-door promise. Honda says its Accord MSRP excludes tax, license, registration, a $1,295 destination charge and accessories. Hyundai says its displayed MSRP excludes freight, tax, title and license. Ford’s showroom result does not establish detailed exclusions for the cited models, so confirm them directly for a specific vehicle. Local dealer pricing, freight and add-ons can also affect the quote.
If $45,000 is a strict total budget, a vehicle advertised at $44,950 should not be assumed to fit. Request an itemized written quote for the exact vehicle, including destination or freight, dealer-installed equipment, taxes, registration and fees. If your goal is a lower out-the-door figure, set that target explicitly rather than relying on a model’s starting MSRP.

The manufacturer listings establish that these models have published 2026 U.S. starting MSRPs in the stated range, and in some cases identify specific features or efficiency figures. They do not provide a like-for-like basis to rank the vehicles overall. The available information here does not establish comparative reliability, real-world fuel economy or range, safety scores, driving impressions, transaction prices or total cost of ownership. Treat the list as a price-based shortlist, then consult current trim-specific information and independent evidence for those questions.
