For an all-round sport or street option, the cited 2026 roundup selects the Alpinestars SP-8 V3; for hot-weather riding, it points to the ventilated Alpinestars SMX-1 Air V2; and for lower-profile urban use, it names the Alpinestars Faster. These are published-spec-based recommendations, not results from hands-on testing. Before buying, check the exact glove’s certification, fit, coverage and weather features against your needs.
Best motorcycle gloves by riding style
These picks reflect the product descriptions and categories in The Lid Test’s 2026 comparison, rather than independent crash testing. Product details, certification claims, prices and availability can change; verify the current listing and the exact model’s manufacturer information before purchase.
| Riding need | Pick | Published specifications and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| All-round sport/street | Alpinestars SP-8 V3 | The roundup describes full-grain goat leather, a dual-density knuckle protector, Level 1 KP certification, gauntlet wrist coverage and touchscreen fingertips. It says the glove has no waterproof membrane. |
| Hot weather | Alpinestars SMX-1 Air V2 | The roundup describes a short cuff, perforated leather, air mesh and a hard knuckle protector. It notes that the manufacturer page it reviewed did not state EN 13594 directly, so do not treat a generic CE-level claim as proof of certification to that standard. |
| Urban/commuting | Alpinestars Faster | The roundup describes a leather palm, softshell backhand and soft knuckle protection. It notes the glove is not waterproof. |
| Sport/race example with a manufacturer-published certification | Alpinestars GP Pro R4 | Alpinestars lists this racing gauntlet as Category II EN 13594:2015 Level KP 1, with leather construction, dual closure, reinforcement and protective sliders. |
The Lid Test reported an Amazon price for the SP-8 V3 dated October 2, 2026, but a price is not a reliable buying comparison without a current listing. Compare prices and stock at the time you shop rather than relying on an older snapshot.
How to choose: certification, fit and coverage
Look for the exact glove standard and level
SS-EN 13594:2015 covers protective gloves for on-road motorcycle use, including sizing, ergonomics, innocuousness, mechanical properties, impact protection, marking, user information and test methods. The Swedish Institute for Standards lists this edition as valid. Check the glove’s own label and the maker’s current product information for the standard and level; a statement that a glove has a protective knuckle component is not the same as a certification claim for the whole glove. #1 Best Overall
- IMPACT RESISTANCE PROTECTIVE: The riding gloves are designed with microfiber material reinforcement. With the excellent cushioning effect, the skateboard gloves can effectively resist the impact of sharp objects, and protect your hands from scratches and abrasions during tactical or motorcycle cycling
- THREE-FINGER TOUCHSCREEN: The fingertips of the thumb, index finger, and middle finger are made of touchscreen material, so you can use touchscreen devices without taking off your safety work gloves for men, which is very easy and convenient
- TOUGH & ANTI-SLIP: The dirt bike gloves are built with double-stitch seams for durability and longevity under any condition. The palm padding of the gloves is made of reinforced double-layer synthetic leather with anti-slip mesh, which can enhance grasp and palm protection
- BREATHABLE & DRY DESIGN: The utility gloves have 5 inclined rubber ventilation holes at the finger joints that can quickly dissipate heat, keep your hands cool all the time, and are widely suitable as motocross gloves, paintball gloves, mountain bike gloves, hunting gloves, driving gloves, hiking gloves, security gloves, and atv gloves
- SIZE CHART: Choose the working gloves that fit your palm according to the size chart. These gloves are designed for comfort and dexterity during yard work, gardening, or outdoor tasks.
Certification is a more concrete comparison point than broad words such as “protective” or “CE-rated.” For example, Alpinestars’ GP Pro R4 page names EN 13594:2015 Level KP 1. That documents the manufacturer’s stated certification; it does not show that the glove outperforms every competing model.
Fit the glove to your hand and controls
A glove should let you move your fingers and operate the controls securely. If it shifts so its protective areas no longer sit where intended, or if it restricts control operation, it is a poor fit for riding. Try it on when possible, or consult the maker’s size guide; D3O’s sizing advice is vendor guidance, not a certification authority. D3O

Choose cuff coverage for the jacket and ride
A gauntlet extends farther over the wrist and can overlap a jacket cuff, while a short cuff is easier to put on and can suit urban rides or hot conditions. The trade-off is less wrist coverage. Check how the glove and jacket meet in your riding position rather than judging coverage from the glove alone.
Match ventilation and weather protection to the season
Perforated leather and mesh are designed to favor airflow. Waterproof membranes and insulation address wet or cold conditions, respectively. Those goals can conflict: a ventilated summer glove is not automatically suitable for cold or rain. The cited comparison establishes weather construction as a useful category, but does not substantiate a named winter-glove pick, so choose a cold- or wet-weather model only after checking its maker’s specifications for waterproofing, insulation and certification.

- Short cuff fit sport glove designed for warm weather and street performance
- Constructed with full-grain leather and 3D mesh for abrasion resistance and airflow
- Pre-curved fingers and stretch inserts ensure a natural fit and increased dexterity
- Hard polymer knuckle protector and reinforced landing zones provide CE-certified safety
- Touchscreen-compatible fingertips and hook-and-loop closure for a secure, versatile fit
Touchscreen fingertips may make phone use easier while stopped, but they are a convenience feature, not a reason to compromise fit, coverage or certification. Do not handle a phone while riding.

Requirements vary by jurisdiction. In New South Wales, government guidance says learner and provisional riders must wear gloves marked as complying with EN 13594:2015; it accepts either Level 1 or Level 2 for those riders. This is a location- and rider-class-specific rule, not a universal requirement. Check the current rules where you ride. NSW Government: motorcycle protective clothing
