If you want a dash cam that also gives on-screen, turn-by-turn directions, the Garmin DriveCam 76 is the clearest fit for most drivers. RV and towable owners should look at the Garmin RVcam 795 for vehicle-aware routing. If you only need GPS speed, location, and route data saved with video, the Nextbase 322GW is a different kind of option—not a navigation system.

That distinction matters: “GPS dash cam” can mean a camera that logs where and how fast you drove, or an integrated navigator-camera that guides you along a route. The models below cover both, and the comparison identifies which does which.

Which GPS dash cam has actual navigation?

Among the models compared here, Garmin DriveCam 76 and Garmin RVcam 795 combine a GPS navigator with a built-in dash cam and provide route guidance. The Nextbase 322GW records GPS data but its cited specifications do not establish turn-by-turn navigation.

Nextbase 322GW GPS logs route, speed, and location; turn-by-turn guidance is not established by the cited specifications 1080p at 60 fps, 2.5-inch touchscreen, 10 Hz GPS, 140-degree viewing angle, according to Nextbase’s product specifications Drivers who want GPS data recorded with dash-cam footage

Best integrated GPS navigator and dash cam for most drivers: Garmin DriveCam 76

The DriveCam 76 is the strongest general-purpose match if you want a larger navigation screen and a camera in the same unit. Garmin’s 2022 announcement lists a 7-inch display, 1080p HD recording, a 140-degree field of view, incident recording, and driver alerts. Garmin also described traffic and weather features paired through its app; confirm that the relevant features are supported in your region and with your phone before buying.

This is a navigator with a built-in camera, rather than a compact camera whose GPS merely tags footage. That integrated format may suit a driver who prefers a visible navigation display, but it is a larger device than a standalone dash cam. The cited material does not establish current pricing or availability.

Best for RVs and towables: Garmin RVcam 795

The RVcam 795 combines a 7-inch navigator and dash cam with routing intended for RVs and towables. Garmin says its route planning can account for vehicle size and weight, and describes alerts for hazards including steep grades and sharp curves. Those functions address a different need from ordinary car navigation: a route suitable for a passenger car may not suit a larger or heavier vehicle.

Garmin lists the BC 50 series as a separately sold compatible rear-view camera option. It is an accessory for rear viewing, not a second front-facing dash camera. Check compatibility and regional availability before purchasing.

Best for GPS-tagged footage without an on-device navigator: Nextbase 322GW

The 322GW is a standalone dash cam with GPS logging. Nextbase lists 1080p recording at 60 frames per second, a 2.5-inch touchscreen, 10 Hz GPS, and a 140-degree viewing angle. Its GPS records route, speed, and location data alongside footage; the cited specifications do not show that it provides map-based turn-by-turn directions.

Nextbase also lists support for compatible rear- and cabin-camera modules. If you are comparing it with the Garmins, decide first whether saved GPS data is enough or whether you want the device itself to guide your route.

What about the Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S?

The DriveAssist 51 LMT-S is an older navigator with a built-in dash camera and turn-by-turn directions. It may be relevant if you are considering used stock, but current availability and support status are not established. Verify those details with Garmin or the seller before treating it as a practical alternative.

How to choose the right type

  • Choose an integrated navigator-camera if you want map-based directions and recording in one device. DriveCam 76 is the general-car option in this comparison; RVcam 795 is the vehicle-aware choice for RVs and towables.
  • Choose a GPS-logging dash cam if you want route, speed, and location associated with footage but do not need on-device turn-by-turn guidance. The cited Nextbase 322GW specifications describe this function.
  • Compare display and camera specifications according to your needs. Garmin’s announced 7-inch screens and Nextbase’s 2.5-inch touchscreen reflect distinct device formats; the figures do not establish comparative image quality.
  • Check add-on camera needs before buying. The RVcam 795 can work with the separately sold BC 50 series rear-view option; Nextbase lists compatible rear and cabin modules for the 322GW.
  • Confirm local availability and support with the manufacturer or retailer. Current regional pricing, inventory, support, and map-update terms were not established for these models.

Rules for recording, privacy, and device use vary by jurisdiction. Garmin’s product page warns that some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit use of the device and places responsibility on the user to know and follow applicable laws and privacy rights: Garmin DriveCam 76 product page. That is a general manufacturer warning, not jurisdiction-specific legal guidance; check the rules that apply where you plan to drive.
