Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single glue that 3M identifies as best for every plastic car-part repair. Choose a repair material only after identifying the plastic, the type of damage and the repair geometry—and checking that the product’s current instructions cover all three. A cracked panel, a missing mounting tab and a surface gouge call for different approaches. Adhesive alone is not proof that a repair is safe for a structural, load-bearing or safety-related part.
Start by identifying the plastic and the damage
Look for a molded material marking on the part, then compare it with the plastics listed in the repair product’s instructions. 3M’s collision-repair guidance covers vehicle plastics including PP/EPDM, ABS, PUR and glass-fiber-reinforced plastic, and ties product selection to the material and the repair needed. Markings can help identify polyolefins. If the material cannot be identified, do not assume a product is compatible.
Next, distinguish the job: a scratch or gouge is not the same repair as a crack, hole or broken attachment tab. 3M describes separate materials and procedures for these categories. For example, its tab-repair procedure is intended to rebuild or recreate a mounting tab, rather than simply bond two broad panel surfaces.
Match the repair approach to the part
Broken mounting tab or bracket
3M identifies Super Fast Repair Adhesive for automotive plastic parts such as broken or missing mounting tabs, mounting brackets and trim. Its product page describes 04247 as a two-part urethane adhesive and lists a one-hour full cure. That timing is specific to the listed product; it is not a general cure time for plastic automotive adhesives. The same page labels 04247 for industrial or occupational use only, not consumer sale or use. Check the current product label and your local availability before considering it for a DIY job. 3M Super Fast Repair Adhesive 04247 product information

Semi-rigid plastic with damage on both sides
3M describes Semi-Rigid Parts Repair as a material for two-sided repairs and reinforcement, including bumper covers. Its recommended plastics include Xenoy, RRIM, GTX, PPO and ABS. Those are manufacturer-specific compatibility claims: use the product only if its current instructions cover the actual part and repair. 3M Semi-Rigid Parts Repair
Flexible exterior panel scratches, gouges or deformations
3M describes EZ Sand Multi Purpose Repair Material for repairs to flexible exterior plastic parts, including scratches, gouges and deformations on bumper covers. 3M advises using an adhesion promoter, especially with polypropylene. Confirm that the product instructions fit the plastic and the particular damage before starting. 3M EZ Sand Multi Purpose Repair Material

Check adhesion-promoter compatibility
An adhesion promoter is not interchangeable across plastics. 3M recommends Polyolefin Adhesion Promoter 05907 before applicable repair material on identified PP, PE, TPO or EPDM plastics, and specifically says not to use it on ABS. Follow the selected product’s directions rather than adding a promoter by default. See 3M collision-repair adhesives, sealants and fillers guidance.
Prepare and rebuild a broken tab carefully
For a tab repair, preparation is part of the bond. 3M’s procedure emphasizes keeping both the tab area and the vehicle area where the tab will be reinstalled clean. It also describes sanding, drilling pinning holes and applying promoter before rebuilding the tab. The procedure says to let the promoter cure for 5 to 10 minutes; treat that interval as specific to the described process and follow the current instructions for the products you use.

- FLOWS INTO TIGHT GAPS & MICROCRACKS: Thin cyanoacrylate formula penetrates trims, panels, headlight housings, and dashboard components – creates strong, invisible bonds in hard-to-reach areas where gel can't reach.
- DESIGNED FOR CARS, TRUCKS & MOTORCYCLES: Bonds plastic, rubber, and metal automotive parts – withstands engine vibration, road shocks, oil exposure, and temperature shifts from -40°F to 230°F (-40°C to 110°C).
- 1.76 OZ XXL = WORKSHOP-READY FORMAT: More glue per repair than standard automotive adhesive tubes – ideal for frequent users in garages, body shops, fleet maintenance, and emergency vehicle kits.
- PRECISION DROPPER TIP — NO OVERSPILL: Controlled flow even in tight spots – clean application on clips, seams, and wire harness mounts. Anti-clog cap prevents crusting and blockages between uses.
- PERFORMS IN OIL, HEAT & VIBRATION: Industrial-grade CA bond built for underhood conditions – holds on parts exposed to automotive fluids, grime, weather extremes, and constant mechanical stress. German-engineered formula for reliable shelf life.
- Identify the plastic and select a repair material whose instructions cover it and the tab-repair geometry.
- Clean the damaged tab area and the corresponding vehicle area, following the repair material’s preparation instructions.
- Sand and prepare the surfaces as directed. If the procedure calls for pinning holes, make them in the specified locations and dimensions.
- Apply promoter only when the plastic and repair product instructions call for it. In 3M’s tab procedure, allow the promoter to cure for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Rebuild or recreate the tab with the selected repair material, observing its specific work and cure instructions before reinstalling or loading the part.
See 3M’s plastic-tab repair procedure for its described method and recommended products.

Work time and cure time vary by product and conditions. 3M’s tab procedure says to substitute its semi-rigid material when longer work time is needed or conditions are hot. The 04247 product page lists a one-hour full cure for that product only. Do not transfer either instruction to another adhesive, temperature or substrate; consult the selected product’s current label and technical data sheet.

Also check the equipment and user restrictions. 3M’s 04247 listing says nozzles are included. Its tab procedure lists an applicator and promoter among recommended products. Confirm whether the repair material requires a compatible cartridge applicator or static mixing nozzle, and whether the product is labeled for consumer use. Product formulations, labels and regional offerings can change.
When a glue repair may not be appropriate
The cited guidance does not establish that adhesive repair is suitable for every structural, safety-related, heat-exposed or load-bearing component, or that a particular repair is approved by a vehicle maker. For a consequential part, use vehicle-specific repair guidance or consult a qualified repair professional instead of treating a general adhesive recommendation as assurance of safety. The examples here are 3M manufacturer guidance, not independent comparisons across brands or a guarantee that a repair will last.
